      Manual says 600 miles to break-in, I would go I little farther before oil change.

    • @DustySteel
      @DustySteel Před rokem +3

      A couple that have been traveling around on theirs say that theirs broke in around 1000 miles and the bike then noticeably had more power. I would also imagine that altitude plays a factor and if it’s just staying around 45-50 mph. I’m hopeful that it does get more because I want to use it as a commuter.

    • @RedBud315
      @RedBud315 Před rokem +2

      I've even noticed a difference in how much easier it is to ride at 50 MPH as the miles are adding on.

    • @cx500chris2
      @cx500chris2 Před rokem +2

      @dustysteele5408 I'm curious I think it's because at higher altitudes, bike runs leaner, faster , because I also think honda shipped bikes out in a regions format, meaning different jets in carburetors for regions of different altitudes. If I moved to Colorado and never changed jets in my carburetor it would eventually burn up.

    If you still notice high oil usage after it's broken in check your crank case vent tube for oil . The tube and angle, as well as length, don't allow the oil to separate from the air adequately, so a longer vent tube will allow the oil to drain back into the case.

    Just wanted to mention that on most modern motorcycles, the brake light will work when you apply the front brake also. When manufacturers do fuel mileage test, they are under ideal conditions, and the bike broken In.

    Have you checked how much gas fits once you hit reserve? The activation point could be slightly off from what manufacture stats. I recently got a new bike too ( wanted XR150L .. but was not available ) and reserve amount and reserve to full differs slightly from manufacture.

    • @fixitforfun577

      I have not measured it I was just looking for a real world mileage the mpg may not be right due to the tank size being off but 155 MI until you hit the reserve is all I really needed to know. Thank you for checking out my video.

  • @cheeko_914
    @cheeko_914 Před rokem +3

    The type of riding you do will make a massive difference. Were you using the recommended shift points listed in your owners manual? You should shift to 5th at about 30-32mph where you should get the best fuel mileage. Taking it on higher speed roads will reduce fuel mileage. Same thing as a car. 124mpg is the best case scenerio where you don't pin the throttle (like I need to do on the highways here in CT to get to 65mph). Before I started taking it on the highway I got over 220mi on my first 2 tanks, didn't even hit the reserve yet. Started taking it on the highway for the last 2 weeks and only got 185mi out of the main fuel supply before I needed to flip to reserve. I'm at 600mi on mine, break-in should be finished at around 1k miles.

    • @fixitforfun577
      @fixitforfun577  Před rokem

      I most definitely was not using the recommended shift points i was hammering on it for half the tank and cruising for the other half I feel like it's more of a real world comparison not to mention I can ring 4th gear out to 50 mph LOL thank you for watching

    You're doing it backwards. I've been riding for almost 50 years and road raced and the front brake is 80-90% of your stopping power. I rarely even touch the rear brake unless I do have to stop hard and even then it is just a little because all the weight shifts forward and the rear end lightens up so you don't want to lock up the rear. Now in the dirt where I am not as skilled I assume you use a little more rear brake the get the back end around like a power slide.
