      Dunno, Leclerc has a pretty good understanding of how he can impact the race and championship. Think of the DRS tactics against Verstappen at the beginning of 2022, or how he was trying to use Perez to beat Russell and Mercedes at the very end of last year's championship. He just has too much faith in his team, and doesn't override their decisions when he should. Both of them are great drivers.

      @@Fpvpilot928that's not necessarily driving under pressure, especially over a season, which is his real problem. Those are more instinctual moments. Hes a very instinctual driver, for sure, but when hes far out ahead or his only ghost in the race, like in France, he'll just spin out and ruin his lead. Champions like Max and Lewis just dont make those mistakes. Theyrr too consistent. While Leclerc is a very temperamental driver who will even complain about a lonely race while guys like Max and Lewis just shine being out on their own, being their own benchmark. Leclerc does his head in a bit, which is where the cracks from pressure show. Also full of excuses when things dont go his way.
      Hes finally getting angry, which is a good step. Perhaps we'll see him show actual championship caliber this year, by minimizing the excuses and just being the clear next best guy to Max. Problem is, hell get bored not getting podiums or something and then well see him fighting for 6th some race when Sainz is in 3rd, bc he cant be bothered to give af bc hes not winning. A guy like that is a diva, not a champion. I dont think hes the next contender to Max. If anything, out of the current field, its George, who has shown better fight against Max in those few head to head moments and is more hungry, just in everything he does. I suspect the next era of drivers like Piastri and so on will be the actual guys to surpass Leclerc and challenge Max.

    RE: Closing the gap to Red Bull.
    That's a downside of a cost cap. If you can't test and try new ideas, but your problems are rather baked in, well, game over.
    That being said, I agree with our pundits: encourage competitiveness, yes, but don't punish success.
    I feel like sprints are underutilised - they're just a GP Lite as is. A full-on reverse grid from qualifying would be one way to spice them up (that, or make them knockout races, or make them be exclusively ran by non-titular drivers, or something else).

  • @jgagnier
    @jgagnier Před 3 měsíci

    RE: Points.
    Just have all classified drivers be awarded points. Some of my old school peers will disagree (I'm old enough to remember Senna racing), but I think points aren't fit for purpose.
    Why hand points to every driver? First, it makes every position be worth fighting for. In the last 10 laps, nobody cares about whoever's in P12 or P18, and it's a shame. Create an incentive for drivers to maximize their position, and create an incentive for fans to watch. Make that Williams REALLY want to beat Stake for P15.
    Second, it makes for a more accurate picture of driver and team rankings. Let's put it this way: *we're currently not ranking backmarker teams based on how well they do, but rather about how often they can crack the top 10*. I don't think that's what rankings, and thus funding, should be based on. I can recall Latifi leading Russell in the standings after 12 races a few years back, even though he'd beaten him only twice... one of which was for points. It severely distorts the picture for bottom of the pack drivers.

    F1 should be looked at like a symphony. It's not a pop album of individual songs. Focus on the season. And no, one race does not make a foundation of a season. I believe that way of thinking is pessimistic and likely just your broadcaster brains trying to be edgy for clicks. Even is RBR is best, it doesn't mater that much. It's how F1 has always been. Yet you guess act disappointed and get all edgy and hemorrhoidal. Symphony. Chill out.If you chill out maybe other parts of medial could follow.

    It's become clear, so many times from this driving pairing, that Sainz is the more complete driver. Leclerc has pace, which gives fanboys a massive boner, but he's as tempermental and inconsistent as Ricciardo. Needs constant stroking and massaging to just show up with his best. He's not self possessed enough, too wishy washy, sometimes bored and aloof, doesnt have half the intangibles and leadership qualities that Sainz does. I'm done with the excuses. When people show you who they are, listen, and if you dont think Ferrari calling Lewis up day and night to get him isnt telling enough about what they think of Leclerc, you haven't been paying attention the past 3 years.

After 2 season's Ferrari will let Leclerc go like they did to Vettel once Hamilton is in the team and will look at Oscar Piastri in 2027 to replace Leclerc this will also be Hamilton last year in F1 and 2028 Max Verstappen at Ferrari to replace Hamilton.
