    That season was hyped before it started especially here in Finland because Teemu Selänne went to Avs with Paul Kariya. Everybody thought that they would finally win the Cup together but that didn't happen. Then suddenly this was the fairytale season of Miikka Kiprusoff and boy was it fun to watch! He was the reason why Flames went to the Finals.

    Shout out to the late Bill Davidson, owner of the Detroit Pistons and the Tampa Bay Lightning who has the rare distinction of being a professional sports owner winning two championships, with the Lightning and Pistons, the same year (2004).
    Upcoming... another Detroiter, Peter Karmanos will soon make it a three-fer for Detroit-based owners of NHL hockey teams for the 21st Century winning the Stanley Cup (Red Wings-Illitch, Lightning-Davidson, and Hurricanes-Karmanos).

  • @Humbilly
    @Humbilly Před 5 lety +1

    You went over it, and there was
    "No definitive angle."
    Yeah, and in Buffalo a few years before Gary Bettman didn't want everyone laughing at him so he was practically throwing the Stanley Cup at Derian Hatcher in a desperate attempt to get off the ice as fast as possible.
    Brett Hull's toe was in the Crease, but everyone was mindful of Don Cherry saying "This rule is going to screw someone out of a Stanley Cup."
    But there was no review, something that is the responsibility of the league led by Bettman.
    Martin Gelinas scored the winning goal against three division winners in the playoffs, and it was his shot that was "stopped?" That would have been a record that would have stood, four series clinching goals in the playoffs over a division winner.
    But there was no review, and that's a responsibility of the league led by Bettman. You might have gone over it, but the League didn't.

  • @GrinderCB
    @GrinderCB Před 5 lety

    Ah yes, the 2004 season. While my L.A. Kings were setting records for man-games lost to injury (540-something) the Lightning racked up 26 and won the Cup. TWENTY-SIX friggin' man-games lost. That's one guy out 26 games, or two guys out 13 games or whatever, but it graphically illustrates how keeping your top roster healthy is key to winning. One night at Colorado, Ian Laperriere was skating with the puck and slapped it into the Avs' zone, but hit it cockeyed and the puck flew up into the Kings' bench and clocked Ziggy Palffy in the face just below his shield. Fractured cheekbone and a mild concussion. Out 12 games. And he was sitting on the bench! Only the Kings. Hey Shannon, how about a video relating injuries to success during the season? We know about guys that play hurt through the playoffs, but what about the regular season?

    I feel that Roman Cechmanek got too much slack for his (short) NHL career. His save% in four seasons was .921, .921, .925 and .906 (.919 career save%). In the postseason it was .891, .936 and .909 (.909 career save%). I personally think him, Giguere, Turco or even Belfour should've gotten the Vezina in 2003, but of course Martin Brodeur got it despite a much lower save% than all four of them (one of quite a few weird and questionable Vezina wins for him, he was 12th in save% that year).

    This is the year when I grew to absolutely hate Mike Ribeiro. Thankfully his flop, which still pisses me off to this day, had no bearing on the series. Unfortunately, Raycroft's crap goaltending and Thornton deciding to become as soft as Charmin did. Not that I think they would have been able to beat the Lightning, because they were ridiculously good. It is just so unbelievable how this team, with the talent that it had couldn't seal the deal.

    One thing I will say, to play devil's advocate for Bertuzzi, is that Moore put a target on his back with his dirty hit to Markus Naslund, which gave him a serious concussion. That said, the reaction by Bertuzzi was inexcusable and completely avoidable. It is a shame that a guy who was a solid power forward, at least in my opinion, decided to permanently stain his reputation and career by doing what he did to Moore.

    As for fans calling out teams crap, ie Toronto not winning since 67, for some it all about championship s vs seasonal and playoff performance. To each his own. Yes the leafs had a miserable 80,s and 2004 to 2015. Yet they are the second best team all time in NHL history behind the Habs.
