- HOW TO WIRE UP A 12 VOLT ROOF PUMP OR WINDOW CLEANING PUMP
Here is a wire diagram of how to hook up a roof cleaning pump
So we start with the battery and go from there. From positive side of battery you need to go to a 30 amp fuse. Use 10 gauge wire.
Next go from the fuse to the 75 amp switch. From switch we will run 10gauge wire to the red wire on the pump.
Finally run a 10 gauge wire to the black wire to the negative post on the battery

What really screwed me was the splicing and properly connecting the wiring. Thru trial and error I got it dialed in on both my pumps now. We dont use switches we used a plug but the switch looks way better and Im now looking into adding that to the circuit. Thanks man
I learned what I needed to know within 1 minute of this video at just the halfway point. Thanks
I shared this video with John Lange. This is awesome. Thanks.
Thanks for this video! I need my pump setup on a 12 v system, for running water to a on demand water heater. Just the simple instructions I needed!
This helped me a lot.. had the video paused on the diagram part and just wired my first one.. now for the test on a new battery. Thanks Jason
That’s awesome
That was helpful. Simple and helpful. Thank you.
Nice job with the layout of parts along with the diagrams.

Hey thanks very much I have lil knowledge of electrical and I'm a pest control technician so thank you this video really helped me understand it better and gave me ideas to upgrade my system aka the ground idea
Awesome to hear you found the video useful! Keep up the good work with your upgrades!
Thank you for this video....I just ordered two fat boy pumps a few days ago and was looking for a video on how to property wire it. Thanks again for your help.
First Choice Services do you think a fan is Necessary for cooling the pump or not?
Thank you so so much ! You have made me and my family's day God bless
You are so welcome
Thanks Jason, I've beating my head on what I've been doing wrong. I'm running a 30 amp switch. I hope that's my issue. Just ordered the push pull one you recommended.

Thanks Buddy .. much appreciated !
Thanks for watching man
Hi Jason, Greetings from Kent in England. Thank you for your videos and the detailed links.
Questions for you:
1: what flow rate and psi could I expect for copying this setup?
2: would it be strong enough to include a downstream pickup injector, thereby saving the mix from entering the pump?
Thanks man for the video, great videos.
I really appreciate your support! It means a lot to me that you enjoy my videos.
Thanks for this bro
Hi Jason, I really like your videos. I am a very poor with electrical things. Could you make a video that is for wiring pumps for even more novice people like myself where it shows you actually putting it together. Thanks
Big help thank you
Thank you so much

I do have a question about the pumps…I bought a Everflo 5.5 and was wondering if there’s a way to change the wires coming directly out of the bottom of the pump. While I agree that 10gauge wire should be used…doesn’t that just make those short runs the weakest link?
I have an on demand hot water portable camping shower. My 12v pump is 1.8 gpm. Would you still recommend a 30 amp fuse? And what gauge wire would you recommend? Any help is much appreciated!!!
Wow thanks ❤
I can’t believe I have never seen this yet. Lol
Thanks great video
Thanks for watching
Many thanks for the simple illustration.. Just one quick question: If the same exact setup is intended to be a portable rechargeable device (ex: the new portable battery powered dental flosser which is basically a pump and a rechargeable battery), do we need any other components more than what you kindly showed in your video? Especially if it's a 12v rechargeable battery?
Just add a small battery charger 😉
Thank you. How to decide the capacity of fuse. Please reply.
Hi watch this looks simple , my question is im trying to set up a solar hose pipe water heater on a shed roof how best to put the pump as 1pipe is higher than the other on opposite sides and my water tank is below inside the shed , hows best or best place to put the pump thanks
If I have an open pressure washing trailer with no cover, does my pump need some sort of cover to protect it from the elements
Hi Jason! Amazing videos. I’m putting my first setup together now. I’m decent for now on the power washer side but as far as soft washing, I just ordered a FB3 100 PSI 7 GPM. Since I do use my current truck for my gooseneck horse trailer, I need the current setup to be removable occasionally until I decide to either get a second truck or enclosed trailer. Anyway, my main question is why do I need a 75 AMP switch? I ask because I’m trying to make a clean custom rocker panel for all of my aux connections. If I truly need a 75 AMP switch, can I just use an automotive resistor in that range with any DC switch? Lastly, since I have a 7 pin trailer hookup in my bed of my truck, my idea was to get a blank trailer pin and just connect 12V power and ground terminals. Do you see any issue with this? I don’t know what gauge wire they used when they ran the plug but it was a high end RV place so I’m guessing it was done right. Also, I have 2 batteries in the engine bay, but for some reason I can’t install a switcher on them to make sure I don’t drain one for car to start. The mechanic said they run in parallel or in series...one of those lol. Anyway, primary question is the switch but if you have any input on my tow hitch power source idea, I’d appreciate that as well. Thanks again!!!
The 75 amp switch is so I don't need a relay. Other wise you need a switch that can handle at least 30 amps
@@kingofpressurewash That's what I figured. This is all kind of new to me but I have my waterproof solder and seal butt connector and ring terminal technique down pat now lol. I ended up finding a 35 heavy duty toggle at Wal-Mart ironically, and returned the 75 AMP to NAPA. I got an Interstate deep cycle marine battery and while I know it's overkill, a NOCO G26000 charger/maintainer. I was going to get an Optima AGM yellow, and my buddy sells, them and said they were great back when they made them in the US but suck since Mexico production. Anyway, right now I have thick plastic rolling tool box that is empty with a small tray on top. I have the battery in there with the pump. Ideally, I'd like to mount the pump to the wall of the toolbox and extend the fittings through watertight holes in the box with some sort of seal and my banjo valve on one side for the suction tube and I have to figure out a quick disconnect for the other side. Is there a schedule 80 or other good QD 3/4" NPT to ideally a 1/2" hose or barb. I played with the setup a little yesterday at a job for tough 120 year old sandblasted brick and now will only apply my solutions with soft wash and then power wash only if needed. Any other suggestions for making the output section quick disconnect would be extremely appreciated.
Also, back to the switch, am I to assume if I get a 30/40 AMP relay, I can connect it to any switch? I'd like a panel of lit rocker panels on my final build and they are usually max of 20 AMPS. Do relays drain any battery when not in use? I heard that in another video. Also, do you account for the rating in the switch when using a relay? For example, if I need a 40 amp switch and the switch is a 20 AMP, do I get a 20 AMP relay or 40 AMP? I'd like to do a video of how much it costs as how much to build your own high-end setup. Next step is metal battery box and custom frame welded so I can mount pump and hose reel on top. We'll see and ideas keep changing lol, but I've become obsessed with wiring. I want to get maybe a 4 bank setup and run truck bed light and spotlights for working at night, rock lights in fenders, etc. There is a charger that uses kinetic energy while driving I am looking into as well, As you can probably tell, I am severely OCD (which is part of why I love power-washing so much. That's my only concern about the toggles. I guess I could get all high amp toggles but the rockers look so nice and are pre-mounted to a plate.
For those of you not looking for a mounted or panel fuse breaker, I got an in-line waterproof fuse holder at NAPA autoparts and popped a 40 AMP automotive style fuse in. The fuse holder itself has rubber for not only the cavity for the fuse but also for the cap. Also, for any of you new to this, going from the 12 AWG lead wires on the pump up 10 AWG uses the same butt connector, so it is as easy as staying with 12 AWG. I use automotive/marine grade wiring and connectors just in case...
Are these Delevan pumps any good???
Hey Jason, can I get away with just having a softwash system since I mostly do siding? Not getting rid of my equipment just rather only bringing out for specific jobs.
Absolutely. You only need high pressure for concrete decks
Hi Jason, what would happen if the in-line fuse coming from the switch to the battery if it wasn’t there what effect will that give the pump? The reason why I ask is because I bought a skid and mine doesn’t have it but I am having a lot of issues with my pumps Breaking down
I have one... Does the pump run the entire time? if you are not using it for whatever reason, will the pump burn out or is there a automatic shutoff of some sort. I thought I saw something like that on the NorthStar rig... So, would you recommended it?
Thanks for the video explanation. I have a question if you dont mind answering: All the wiring is 10gauge up until the wiring that the pump comes with? Or do I have to change the wiring connected to the actual pump as well?
It's just 10 gauge up to the wire that's on the pump you don't have to change it out
does it matter if i use a 30amp fuse or a circuit breaker? or will they both function the same?
Do you connect the red wire from the pump motor and the pressure switch together
Hey Jason was just curious if it mattered if I used two different sizes of Wires spliced together
Yes that’s fine
I have a question if I wanted to add a 12 V 224 V converter where would I place that in between the set up?
So you disconnect both wires up top?
I have ha pump but there is no wire on it how can i distinguish which one is positive or negative
Yes sir if you are soft washing a house and run across a lot of spider webs or dirt dobbers nest how do you remove them. Thanks
I have my 12v water pump exactly how you describe. it is connected to a 12v battery. What do you recommend to be able to plug it to AC 120v. ? Found my battery drains very fast.
Camilo Echeverri battery tender will fully charge your battery but not over charge it
amzn.to/2FW09zq
You can't go wrong with NOCO or Battery Tender's more professional products. I have a collector car collection and they are all maintained with either. However, since I only have 1 battery for now for soft washing, I splurged and bought NOCO's biggest charger/maintainter/restorer, the G26000. However, here is a great article about deep cylcle battery chargers I used as a reference: www.rvweb.net/best-deep-cycle-battery-chargers-reviewed/
Do you ground the battery
What size battery is needed to get 4-5 hours of use? 12v obviously but how many amps? I was thinking about wiring it to the battery on my Pressure Pro. Or should I get another battery to run the my 7 gpm pump.
I would use a marine battery as big as when you can and then you can actually run your pressure washer off of that battery then
@@kingofpressurewash ok
second question, SORRY...
Which 12v pump works best for you? you have mentioned a 5.5gpm. I'm using the Everflo 7gpm diaphragm pump... 1/2" plumbing all around... maybe the better question is, what nozzle tip sizes do you recommend. My current tips are 50 orifice tips, 250 feet 1/2" hose, and I get about a 12 feet stream with a 0050 tip. I have people telling me I should be getting 30 feet... I need every bit of 30 to clean the roofs around here from a ladder at the gutter if a can't walk it. any input would be appreciated. Thank you
Can I install the ground cable to the chasis instead of the battery ?
I wouldn’t suggest it. If it doesn’t have a good ground the pump will not run right
Hi Jason,
Is inline filter necessary on a 12v system?
I never put one on him
wondering if you have any suggestions, my switch isn't getting power & wire back to battery goes behind wall so hard to trace & troubleshoot why switch & then of course pump isn't getting voltage...this may be slightly off topic but this is in a camper...any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Fuse somewhere or a bad wire
Ok, Thanks!
is the 30 amp fuse safe for the pump? i thought a 15amp fuse?
Can I run bleach through everflo water pump ? Do I need to rinse with water after ?
I realize this vid is 5 yrs old. Im hoping you can help.
I had to do this for a 2005 5th wheel. Had to do this cause of the old wiring and tank sensors. Problem is the battery doesn't hold a charge for long. I'm using a car charger everytime we need water. Why is the battery dead every time?
Wow this is some technical stuff. Ever heard of a relay?
How’s the technical it’s one switch. A relay way more technical than that
With a relay, you need your start button, latching relay and then a stop button. How is that less technical than one toggle switch or even a latching push button?

Do you have to put a 30amp fuse between the battery and the pump if the pump already has a 30amp fuse attached to it...?
Hey! So, here's the deal - it's a good practice to have a separate fuse between the battery and the pump, even if the pump already has one. Better safe than sorry, right?
Did you remove the relay it came with? I'm looking for the wiring diagram for this pump.
Nope otherwise it won't shut off
@@kingofpressurewash Thanks bro. Does the pump shut of on demand when using the solenoid instead of the relay? No one seems to be talking about this.
Is it the same for a 5.5 pump? Same gauge wire and fuse size?
Bo L it does not draw as many amps so you can go a little smaller on wire
Could you get power directly from your truck battery instead of a separate battery for the system?
Yes you can. But if you run it low and then it's no go
@@kingofpressurewash ok sir. Ty
Hey man - I’m super new to this and have no idea how to wire up my battery correctly. It sounds like I need to buy some 10 gauge wire and a pole switch and a 30 amp fuse. I just bought the everyflo 5.5 gpm 5500 pump. Anyway you could help me out? I doubt this is possible but could we hop on a call/FaceTime? I’ll pay you for your time. I’m just so new and don’t have anyone to show me any of this.
Sorry for my ignorance. But how often and with what do you charge the battery?
I actually let the pressure washer charge my battery. Or you can use a battery charger and charge it at night or once a week
@@kingofpressurewash I do the same thing letting the PW charge the battery. Do you know any premium types of battery's you use like a AGM type that would fit on a pressure washer? I use this same Delavan pump here.
Thanks mate it had me stuffed what I was doing wrong muchly appreciated
Jason, awesome video! Just want to clarify one thing. The 12v pump comes with 12, maybe 14ga wire installed. You’re connecting the 8ga wire directly to the 12/14 ga pump wire? Seems like it would overload the pumps original wiring. Just making sure I’m doing this right. And the other red wires with the 10amp fuse remain attached? Thanks!
So the fatboy pump is rated at 40 amps, The longer the run of wire the more you have voltage drop, so a bigger wire cuts down on voltage drop.
Here is a voltage calculator that show you the ok wire for your amps and length
www.wirebarn.com/Wire-Calculator-_ep_41.html
Power Washing awesome! Thanks Jason
Where do you buy your switches and fuses
On Amazon links in description
Is it necessary to install a kill switch on the battery power? What about wiring in a volt meter?
Hey brother, how do I add a 30AMP fuse to my circuit? Also, I’m having trouble with my battery dying very fast… any advice?
amzn.to/3TGHbmh
@@kingofpressurewash thank you!
Can you put this in studio with no kitchen?
Can you just get a wire harness with clamps and clamp it into the battery? I saw a vid about WNC Wash Pro's doing that
You can. The problem with that is you do not get a good connection on the battery and it’s going to get hot
How long does the battery last before you have to recharge it?
Usually 6-10 hours
