  • HOW TO WIRE UP A 12 VOLT ROOF PUMP OR WINDOW CLEANING PUMP
    Here is a wire diagram of how to hook up a roof cleaning pump
    So we start with the battery and go from there. From positive side of battery you need to go to a 30 amp fuse. Use 10 gauge wire.
    Next go from the fuse to the 75 amp switch. From switch we will run 10gauge wire to the red wire on the pump.
    Finally run a 10 gauge wire to the black wire to the negative post on the battery

    I do have a question about the pumps…I bought a Everflo 5.5 and was wondering if there’s a way to change the wires coming directly out of the bottom of the pump. While I agree that 10gauge wire should be used…doesn’t that just make those short runs the weakest link?

Just one quick question: If the same exact setup is intended to be a portable rechargeable device (ex: the new portable battery powered dental flosser which is basically a pump and a rechargeable battery), do we need any other components more than what you kindly showed in your video? Especially if it's a 12v rechargeable battery?

  • @tothelimit1042
    @tothelimit1042 Před 5 lety +1

    Hi Jason! Amazing videos. I’m putting my first setup together now. I’m decent for now on the power washer side but as far as soft washing, I just ordered a FB3 100 PSI 7 GPM. Since I do use my current truck for my gooseneck horse trailer, I need the current setup to be removable occasionally until I decide to either get a second truck or enclosed trailer. Anyway, my main question is why do I need a 75 AMP switch? I ask because I’m trying to make a clean custom rocker panel for all of my aux connections. If I truly need a 75 AMP switch, can I just use an automotive resistor in that range with any DC switch? Lastly, since I have a 7 pin trailer hookup in my bed of my truck, my idea was to get a blank trailer pin and just connect 12V power and ground terminals. Do you see any issue with this? I don’t know what gauge wire they used when they ran the plug but it was a high end RV place so I’m guessing it was done right. Also, I have 2 batteries in the engine bay, but for some reason I can’t install a switcher on them to make sure I don’t drain one for car to start. The mechanic said they run in parallel or in series...one of those lol. Anyway, primary question is the switch but if you have any input on my tow hitch power source idea, I’d appreciate that as well. Thanks again!!!

    • @kingofpressurewash
      @kingofpressurewash  Před 5 lety +1

      The 75 amp switch is so I don't need a relay. Other wise you need a switch that can handle at least 30 amps

    • @tothelimit1042
      @tothelimit1042 Před 4 lety

      @@kingofpressurewash That's what I figured. This is all kind of new to me but I have my waterproof solder and seal butt connector and ring terminal technique down pat now lol. I ended up finding a 35 heavy duty toggle at Wal-Mart ironically, and returned the 75 AMP to NAPA. I got an Interstate deep cycle marine battery and while I know it's overkill, a NOCO G26000 charger/maintainer. I was going to get an Optima AGM yellow, and my buddy sells, them and said they were great back when they made them in the US but suck since Mexico production. Anyway, right now I have thick plastic rolling tool box that is empty with a small tray on top. I have the battery in there with the pump. Ideally, I'd like to mount the pump to the wall of the toolbox and extend the fittings through watertight holes in the box with some sort of seal and my banjo valve on one side for the suction tube and I have to figure out a quick disconnect for the other side. Is there a schedule 80 or other good QD 3/4" NPT to ideally a 1/2" hose or barb. I played with the setup a little yesterday at a job for tough 120 year old sandblasted brick and now will only apply my solutions with soft wash and then power wash only if needed. Any other suggestions for making the output section quick disconnect would be extremely appreciated.

    • @tothelimit1042
      @tothelimit1042 Před 4 lety

      Also, back to the switch, am I to assume if I get a 30/40 AMP relay, I can connect it to any switch? I'd like a panel of lit rocker panels on my final build and they are usually max of 20 AMPS. Do relays drain any battery when not in use? I heard that in another video. Also, do you account for the rating in the switch when using a relay? For example, if I need a 40 amp switch and the switch is a 20 AMP, do I get a 20 AMP relay or 40 AMP? I'd like to do a video of how much it costs as how much to build your own high-end setup. Next step is metal battery box and custom frame welded so I can mount pump and hose reel on top. We'll see and ideas keep changing lol, but I've become obsessed with wiring. I want to get maybe a 4 bank setup and run truck bed light and spotlights for working at night, rock lights in fenders, etc. There is a charger that uses kinetic energy while driving I am looking into as well, As you can probably tell, I am severely OCD (which is part of why I love power-washing so much. That's my only concern about the toggles. I guess I could get all high amp toggles but the rockers look so nice and are pre-mounted to a plate.

    • @tothelimit1042
      @tothelimit1042 Před 4 lety

      For those of you not looking for a mounted or panel fuse breaker, I got an in-line waterproof fuse holder at NAPA autoparts and popped a 40 AMP automotive style fuse in. The fuse holder itself has rubber for not only the cavity for the fuse but also for the cap. Also, for any of you new to this, going from the 12 AWG lead wires on the pump up 10 AWG uses the same butt connector, so it is as easy as staying with 12 AWG. I use automotive/marine grade wiring and connectors just in case...

      So the fatboy pump is rated at 40 amps, The longer the run of wire the more you have voltage drop, so a bigger wire cuts down on voltage drop.
      Here is a voltage calculator that show you the ok wire for your amps and length

    Is it necessary to install a kill switch on the battery power? What about wiring in a volt meter?

    Can you just get a wire harness with clamps and clamp it into the battery? I saw a vid about WNC Wash Pro's doing that

      You can. The problem with that is you do not get a good connection on the battery and it’s going to get hot
