When I was considering the Colt SP1 as my *hommage to the Vietnam vets* , I came across the Brownell's BRN-16A1. $1300 seemed better to me than $2300, and I planned on *shooting it rather than just looking at it* . So, I made my decision, ponied up the funds, and ordered the rifle. Never regretted that decision! 450 rds so far with no problems. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
My wifes uncle told me a story about the original M-16 barrels... He retired a Master Sargent from the Army in Aberdeen... He said in Vietnam himself and some other fellas were tasked to go in-country and change out the crappy unlined barrels in the field. He said they went to different "locations" in Vietnam with the new good chrome-lined barrels and swapped them out.....
For me I spray in the buttstock high heavy density foam to give more weight and strength it works great makes it feel more real then it being empty just a fyi. I myself have replaced almost all my rifles with Chrome bolt bolt carriers that's my preference I got like two AR15s left my A2 and my A2 M4 build.
Brownells is doing fantastic work and if I had a job to afford I would have all of them. Enjoy if you can afford them. A fine tribute to those who served then.
I totally GEEK OUT on this gun stuff when I watch your vids bro. I got a BRN-605 on the way & I’m super excited. Keep up the great work on this channel 👌🏾👴🏾😉
Chris, t91 tactical has Taiwan t91 ejection doors in stock, they are identical to the m16/m16a1 pattern door (at least appear to be to my layman eyes). Price is good too, around $6 i think, if anyone wants to get rid of that a2 door.
Brownells has their rifles on sale every now and then. If you are crying about the price do two things, wait till they are on sale or go buy an original (and I wish you luck in that search) and have terrible sticker shock. I'll be picking up a Brownells 601 in early 2019. The other retro rifles I'll investigate building myself. Brownells will get my money one way or the other for supporting those of us that love rifles before they became more like Christmas trees that seem to need a bunch of ornaments hanging off them.......
Spot on! Just ordered the XBRN16E1 from Brownells today. Picked it up for total of $1039.99 (Includes Free Shipping) Brownells has them on sale for $1049.99 + there is a $10 FFL Transfer Fee when you purchase. Using promo code "M8Y" gave me $20 off my purchase with Brownells. Compared to the original SP01s and the Retro Colts now available, the BRN series of retro rifles are still the best deal if you are looking for a retro AR.
Those are great rifles from a great company, Brownells. That being said; I can't believe that you support Noveske!! I would not associate my name with the Noveske brand.
@@animalmother556x45 I got a rather expensive barrel and "matching" bolt from Noveske. Well - the bolt would not head space correctly (would not close on a 5.56 or 223 gauge). So much for matching. I am not the only one to notice the slip in quality from Noveske. They have gone down hill since John died.
Hi sir. How are you? I’m torn between which of the Brownells retro rifle replica of XM16E1 and the M16A1. Can you pls tell me which one I should get when what I want is to replicate what was predominantly used in the Vietnam war? Thank you sir.
M16A1. By the time Congress got around chastising the Army in 1968 at the hearing between March and June of that year most rifles in country was an A1 or a retro fitted variant. I served in the Corp between 79 and 86 and I was issued an M16A1 - my Girl! Mid-summer of 79, in bootcamp, we spent a day at a field range with the biggest bunch of shot out M16' from the Vietnam era cobbled together that I have ever seen - about the same they gave us in bootchamp as a parade rifle. This was our Fam-Fire on the M16A1 in full auto with a truck load of ammo we were told to shoot up on some unnamed hillside at Camp Pendleton; both rifles and targets were wore slap out. They worked pretty good up until just before lunch. From that point on all we did was load magazines, clean rifles and clear jams all the while running the snot out of those rifles. I bet there was not a rifle there that did not see 4,000 rounds or more that day. Somewhere on Pendleton there was a bunch of sad sack's who had to clean that crap and make those rifles run again for the next Platoon.... They'll run!
Just keep looking, be patient, save up and buy an original vintage Colt. But buyer beware, A popular auction site has more jacked up messed with vintage AR-15's then legit correct ones. You have to do your homework. When you are all standing around talking guns and 10 guys have the Bownells imposter and you have the only original Colt SP1, all correct, you will be the envy of all. And a shooter grade Colt is awesome too. A little honest wear and tear adds to the mystique. I will acknowledge credit where credit is due, both rifles shot very well but the second one had about a perfect gas system. Extremely light recoil and 4 o'clock ejection. That one was dialed in. Perhaps a hand pick for you but impressive just the same. My Colt M16 uppers all seem a bit over gassed, albeit for good reason.

Out of the retro rifles, I like the A1 the most.
Thanks Chris!
H&R Arms at PSA has the correct XM16E1 and M16A1 buffer with the Red Bumper Pad if you are looking for them.
HOLY SHIT! YOU ARE BACK! Good to see you back, we all miss you very very much....
So glad to see you back on youtube
Planning to get the A1 version when they're back in stock and the original grey finish is available.
I like the A2, I hope Brownells goes down that route also...
Me too. A2s are great. I just wish someone made a slick side A2 upper.
I just finished an A2 build this year, by far one of my favorites.

I never seen any retros here in Indiana from any makers at all and I been looking!
Really good information, thanks for your videos!

I was going to try to build one up myself, but these look like a nice option.
I just discovered ever this video!!!! What happen to your original channel!!!?? My God it’s like I found my long lost family member!!!!
My first choice would be the 601 just because I like that funky flash hider.

Also my favorite.
I'll take the E1 lower and the 601 upper. Then, everything else the 16E1.
Im working on an early 604 just like that.
I believe you,got me one
would have been nice to see your shot groups on paper
I like see your review of the USAF BR 15. Great video. Thanks.
No warranty is given for Brownells products purchased from Optics Planet
I recognize that range.. been there a few times
Hope Brownells will make Aluminum XM177 Stocks that I can purchase (Looking at you Troy:-)
I need that rifle. I'll save up for it, I don't care how expensive it is.

@@animalmother556x45 Yes sir I did. They would not even refund my money for the bolt.

costs 1630€ here in europe, is it worth getting one over say BM59 which I can get for 650€?
The ammunition for it should cost half as much. Take that in to consideration.
A1 or E1 ??
I love it !!
Why Black? Shouldn't they be XM gray?

Chuck Howard Wow! Thank you, sir. And thank you for your service.
Where do you purchase? Website?
Can't imagine paying $1300 for a rifle.
Why do you like the E1 over the A1 ?
It's all about that CHROME!
