Troy is an awesome. Doing this for these veterans says a lot about the company.
Great Video, Chris. I carried an XM16E1 in Vietnam and after training with the M14 was very pleased to have that colt and fell in love with it for ops in VN. Sometime after Tet '68 I was handed an XM177E2. That was my second love affair and that thing instilled a confidence that was a world away from just the thought of carrying around the M14...gawd forbid ! Back in the 1980s I built my own (semi auto) XM16E1 and XM177E2 from surplus parts, just to have those two sweethearts back in my life. Those two weapons have a special place in our history. Thanks for the video and congrats to Troy for what they have done for our vets.
Been contemplating getting either their GAU-5 or M16A2 Carbine repros, seeing you post this vid is adding fuel to the fire.
Yes, does anyone make a m16a2 repro, because I’m a lefty and need the brass deflector
A good man. That was a very king gesture to those Veterans.
Chris is " gonna " hate me I bought the Colt XM 177 E2 repro with the16.1" barrel - TDIU hundo club vet .
Love that bandoller use. Brings back memories of 10rd stripper clips and the range. Used to just pack em back up and return. Wish i had a few... Hooah thank you for the great video Chris
Dont normally care for commemorative firearms, but this is a very nice package. Keep up the great work at smallarms!
Those are real sharp! I tried to get a stock from Troy & it wasn’t happening”.” I will say although not as nice with Brownells retro line you can build a retro budget setup if you watch sales.
Great Honor but if we the people really want to honor our veterans then every honorably discharged veteran should have the option of retaining his or her issued service weapon upon leaving the service. I believe Switzerland did something similar.
Swiss citizens can buy the rifle after mandatory military service is completed. Depending on the Canton, they may have to weld the selector switch so it cannot be switched to full auto. I think the price you pay for the service rifle (SIG SG 550) after military service is 400 CHF while a new Swiss Arms SG 550 from a sporting goods store would be 3500 CHF.
These are sweet rifles! 😎Love Troy.
Oh will you ever do a model 723 with 14.5" pencil barrel? kinda a neat gun I can remember cross training with the Rangers and they had these guns as well with the Green berets it always made an impression on how light it was. I was jealous as a Marine stuck with the A2!
Essential Arms in Louisiana has been providing aluminum car stocks for years and are of good quality.
MY favorites of all the retro rifles!
Great VID! I'm working on a XM177E1 build and I'd like to purchase as many Vietnam era parts available. Do you know how much a Vietnam era parkerized complete BCG will cost today?
The coating was Vinyl Acetate sir.
Ordered one today can’t wait to get it
Quick question are these considered sbr?
@@AdrianGarcia-my9ed no the muzzle device is pinned and welded to meet barrel length requirements.
Chris why didn't Colt not use the delta ring on all rifles not just the XM177 CAR I mean the reason they made them had to be an Upgrade or why would they had made them?
Stay firsty my friends...
Lol stay frosty.
Good stuff Chris ! Thanks for the codes
5:19 Vinyl Acetate
Are these going to be available again, or is that it on the primary marketplace?
what is the barrel twist on the XM177E2? 1/7 or 1/12, thx
I cannot get it....You take a 20inch barrel length, you clip it to 10+ inches, then add a 4+ inch moderator. Increasing barrel length and weight. Why not a staright 14 inch barrel right from the start?
GreekPreparedness it's meant to replicate the original, which HAD the short barrel and a moderator, which somewhat reduced the report from an already loud rifle, made louder by the short barrel. The replica is basically just a flash hider but it looks right. This is kind of the precursor to the M4 carbine.
Jon L yes, but I was referring to the original.
GreekPreparedness I think with the original you could remove the moderator and make it that much shorter. And in place, it DOES reduce the sound a little. Installing one on a full size or even 14-16" barrel would make it that much longer. As I recall the CAR-15 was popular with aircrews too, due to it's reduced size.
Full auto bcg?
What ammo is good for this 1/12 barrel?
Lighter weight stuff like 55gr. Generally the heavier the bullet the tighter the twist should be. Generally...
First!
She's loud.
Steve
Why commemorate a rifle that got a ton of people killed?? Early rifles plagued with a ton of issues seems hardly commemorative?
oh please....
The original M16s did but the XM16E1,M16A1, M16A2, XM177 and GAU 5 were all extremely reliable rifles that were beloved by those who carried them
