Stop Right Now! Major Brake Upgrade On A LS Swapped 57 Chevy! - Black Widow

  • More progress on the 2 door conversion 1957 Chevy. In the last few videos all the rust has been addressed, followed by an LS swap and all new tubular front suspension. So with all the Go, we need a little Woah. Naturally I ordered a cheap front disc brake kit.
The kit is later model GM disc brakes retrofitted to the classic spindles. The kit also upgrades the ball bearing wheel bearings to a tapered roller bearing. This kit was a little different than I was used to but I got it all bolted together.
With the front brakes addressed I also completely rebuilt the rear brakes, added a new metering block and a disc brake master cylinder. Ill plumb it up on the next video, BUT WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS!!
Now tell me in the comments how I did it wrong.....
Also buy a shirt so I can buy more hood scoops:

Dan, it's good that the brackets put the calipers behind the spindles. You mentioned possibly adding a front sway bar in a previous video. You would have had to move them anyway. Been there done that on dad's '57. We were able to just swap the brackets and calipers side to side and get different hoses, but it was a pain to have to mess with the brakes again.

a million years ago we were logging a 20 acre job on a island . the mill dropped the price so low it would bankrupt us the morning we were going to start shipping .. we had 40+- loads of logs piled up on the landing.
we decided to cut it into fi free wood and haul it off the island 3 cords at a time . on a old early mid 60 gmc . the first load .
    I wasn't driving not my truck .
anyway we came to the top of a long steep hill at the bottom was a dock 200 feet long at the end was Puget sound.
we were going 60ish and he hit the brakes to slow down . they went to the floor by now we were probably 70mph and having he tried to downshift (NEVER EVER TRY TO DOWNSHIFT COMING DOWN A STEEP GRADE.
HE MANAGED TO GET IT BACK IN GEAR unfortunately this blew the clutch.
we were free wheeling 90+ mph
the guy in the booth on the dock seen us coming and started running. there was a right turn at the bottom of the hill that ran outalong the beach we could to a stop.
I said take the right at the bottom of the hill.
he turned right into the holding lane about 100degree turn around 100 mph a old lady sitting in the holding lane with 12000 pounds of firewood on a old gmc 1 1/2 ton .
he makes the turn missed the scared old lady we coast back up a steeper hill now about 20+- from top the truck comes to a stop yippee
not quite no brakes no clutch . no e brake .we start rolling backwards down the hill.
at that point I jump out grab a big rock and threw it under the duels. they rolled right over it.but the front wheel hits it and it stops.
the ferry guy in the booth told us a year before a dumptruck blasted down the hill through the booth and into Puget sound.
THE MORAL OF THE STORY IF YOU HAVE A SINGLE MASTER REPLACE IT

@@hughstephenson2957 no pooping there really wasn't time. mostly I was thinking about how cold the water was going to be Puget sound is cold year road and it was late fall. lol .
we had it towed to a old fashioned auto parts store at the top of the hill . replaced the clutch and wheel cylinder and went on our way but since then everything I owned with a single brake reservoir got a double right away.
I like to be able to stop.

I those days i90 had a red light and a right turn in the middle of town I got it stopped there was a chevron station across the street and I single handedly did my best to destroy wallace Idaho' s sewage treatment plant

I like when you take the time and explain about parts. 3 different metering blocks and master cylinder. I have only ever worked with manual transmission. I have a 94 c10 that started life with a six. Somewhere along the way it ended up with a newer v8 that was switched to a 4 barrel. It’ has newer heads and has issues. I want to pull it but I have NEVER done a automatic. That seem to be the only things you do. When ya take em apart and back together what about the fluid? Ya need to do a straight axel nose bleed high front end sometime. TKS for all your sharing. Old guy Steve d
