Great start on the land management Jason. The interior of the house is for rainy days and winter. I am sure the family agrees, get the land ready for some garden beds. It is nearly time to plant. You may not have time for as much as last year but at least you will have time for greens, tomatoes and peppers, maybe even a bed for some pumpkins and watermelons. Y'all have a Blessed day.

First thing I did, after getting onto our 15 acres, was buy and old JD tractor with a brush hog type mower. So useful. Now it mows, tills, ploughs, discs, hauls, you name it! Fun to watch someone breaking into new land!

I don’t know from experience, but I KNOW how much is involved in video/ editing these videos for You Tube, but in my mind, you have a TON of content at your fingertips (I hate talking money) … you have so many cool projects to do, that you could keep us in twice weekly adventures, from your house Reno, pasture reclaiming, gardens, animals, out buildings …. Man, those tree trunks looked gnarly growing around the roof overhang.
Wish a tractor company would reach out to you to donate a piece of machinery … they seem to consider channels that have more frequent content.

Yes at 61 I have learned in life that what we own owns us with repairs, upkeep, taxes-licensing etc.
My Nephew learned this at 32 when he moved to Florida, it cost $300 a month for storage of a boat. Or for $300 he joined a Marina and had his pick what boat he wanted to use for the day. The Marina did all the things he would have been responsible for as an owner.

Josh it's actually very very smart to right away crop all the brush down close - otherwise with Spring on your heals, it would get super thick really fast and a nightmare to deal with a month from now. Plus, cutting it now will allow the grass to recover sooner

Fortunately or unfortunately all of the house stuff can and will wait on you to return. Getting the land managed and organized will be much easier this time of year instead of waiting and allowing it to get further out of control. Happy for you and proud of all the work. you have put into this transition.

The Mr Toads wild ride comment made me lol. We are dealing with a similar situation. Our new pasture is 3 yr growth on an old cutover timberland. It's head high brushy growth plus a bunch of debris from the logging and stumps everywhere. We are using the pigs and chickens to clear with plans for sheep this summer. A chainsaw and brush cutter like the one your neighbor let you borrow has become my BFF. Did I mention we have 35 acres of this mess to deal with? 🥴
