I have two geese and I stopped loosing birds (chickens) completely!
If you have a incubator I want to let you know a little secret put a heat pad under it set it on medium and leave it there the whole time you won't believe the outcome and how good your numbers are with your hatching

Iâm so sad that after ordering my chicks in January and finding out they couldnât be delivered until July only to find out that they couldnât be promised until next year due to the bird flu was disconcerting . My girls are getting old but still laying fairly well for now. Iâm happy yâall got yours

I feel kinda silly, as I start watching your video, Iâm aware I have been smiling as I watch Jason try to catch his broilers. I know exactly how hard that is, I know what they smell like( not bad, just a definite fragrance) lol the excitement I would get to move and continually care for their changing needs. When you were talking about not needing to process all your meat chickens at once it made me think about some friends who raise a few heritage breed pigs. Because they grow slower they just butcher one themselves whenever they are running low on pork.

Yes, grandmas used to do it that way. My grandmother would go into her coup and grab two chickens on Saturday for a Sunday dinner with guests.

Freddy looks like a mighty fine rooster.
The 1st year we did chickens, we did the red rangers. And an assortment of eggs layers. I raised them all in the same coop along w some pekin ducks. They had a large fenced yard to roam during the day. Our problem wasnt hawks, it was bob cats and cougars (we live in the mountains). As they near butcher age, keep an eye on the ranger roosters. A couple had to go early as they had gotten quite large and would attack us whenever we went into their yard to feed or lock them up for the night. They were very agressive towards our daughter especially. On the other hand, I kept 2 of the hens for eggs bc they were so friendly.

We purchased your chicken processing course a couple weeks ago. We have close to 50 meat birds that are about a month old and will be processing them around June for the first time. Your videos are so comprehensive, thanks so much for that! We feel pretty confident that we can do this come June. We'll keep ya updated!

We have 100 Cornish x in a modified 10x20 portable garage with 20' of gutter for feeder and 20' of PVC with 30 nipples and a 5gal bucket with a float valve for water. We move daily around in our 1/4acre yard. Next weekend we'll test out our new featherman plucker.

You're correct about great grandma raising and butchering her own chickens. She was born in đđș in 1884. She had a house in Evanston IL just north of Chicago. Now I doubt the neighbors would be thrilled with chickens let alone butchering them in her backyard. It was a different time in the early 1900's.

How well do these chicken tractors hold up to wind? We get winds with 55+ mph gusts where we live and have to think about that before building anything, because sometimes it's most of the week with those kinds of winds especially this time of year with all the storms, but normally closer to 30-45 mph, we live between a bunch of farm fields and there are almost no trees around. We want to do meat chickens and want to do them in a tractor and thought of either this style or the hoop coop style with cattle panels. Might have to run them with our layers though instead, they have a big coop and a 100x100 fenced in yard, I just don't know how to feed everyone if they are all running together.
If you order cronish crosses you can tell the difference of those meat birds.they would be twice the size by now

Yes I let them go 3 months and had 25 pound birds they were oven stuffing roasters. They got so big their legs were breaking. I did a 100 the first time ever never again will i kill so many at once we were cleaning birds for 2 days

I recently learned you aren't supposed to do Cornish crosses over 5000 ft in elevation. What kind of meat bird can you do that still grows big and meaty over 5000 ft? Anybody know?

Do the meat chickens reproduce okay or are they like a Cornish cross where they just aren't feasible being older without issues?
So what happens if your freezers or power goes off? Would you loose all your food? We have small group of ducks and hens for eggs. I do know how to process chickens and ducks. I do much canning in fear of loosing what I do have.

My only problem with USA chanels is I get triggered all the time by the way you use the word 'chicken'! In the UK chicken is to hen as beef is to cow! ...I know I probably have OCD!

Question. Is it okay to have your rooster's with your egg layers? Are you able to eat fertilized eggs? I just got my first set of Golden Comets and was curious since I've never raised any.
Yes you can eat fertilized eggs.
Fertilized eggs are no different than unfertilized when it comes to eating. Our two roosters mate with our whole flock and the eggs look no different from before the roosters. The roosters will most likely protect the hens and or mount them (causing them to possibly loose feathers from their backs) if you don't mind all that and the crowing you should be fine
The size of the meat chickens is crazy. Especially because the Australops are already two purpose chickens. Nevertheless, I better like the two purpose chickens. On the one hand you can hatcher them on your own and on the other hand I don't like such industrial chickens. Of course, it's not their fault.

I made a HUGE mistake last year raising my Cornish cross meat birds and my egg layers. I ordered some white jersey giants and I didnât pay attention to our helpers on butcher day and they ended up butchering most of my white jersey giants with the meat birds. From now on I will only order black jersey giants.
