    Get started with the Vicks RapidRead Digital Thermometer with only a few simple steps.
    Start by pressing the power button to turn it on, the thermometer will beep once, and the screen will flash green, yellow and red for one second. It will then display the last temperature measured for 5 seconds.
    Next the display will ask you to choose a temperature measurement site and cycle the options between either oral, underarm or rectal measurement sites. Press and release the blue site selection button when your desired selection is shown. The display will flash your selection for 3 seconds before displaying a ready screen.
    For Oral Measurement, first place the thermometer’s tip well under the tongue, keeping the mouth closed while the measurement is taken. The thermometer will beep twice when the measurement has been made. Remove the thermometer and view the temperature measurement on the display.
    For an Underarm Measurement, first wipe the underarm with a towel. Next, place thermometer's tip snugly into the under arm and touching the skin. Keep the arm close to the body. The thermometer will beep twice when the measurement has been made. Remove the thermometer and view the temperature on the display.
    To turn off the thermometer, press and release the power button or the thermometer will automatically turn off after 30 seconds of inactivity.
    Vicks RapidRead Digital Thermometer’s also have a Precision Insight feature to help you better understand each temperature reading. Each temperature measurement will be displayed with either a green, yellow or red color, which represents either No Fever, Fever or High Fever and is based on the selected measurement site.
    You can easily set a preferred measurement site, by first making sure that the thermometer is turned off. Next, press and hold the blue “site selection” button and without releasing it, press and hold the “gray” power button. Release both buttons when the site selection icon appears, along with 3 flashing dots. Now press the blue site selection button until desired temperature measurement selection site is selected. Wait 4 seconds until the site indicator dot stops flashing. You can then press power button again to turn off the thermometer. Now the thermometer will have your preferred temperature measurement site selected automatically when it is turned on.
    To switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature scales, first power off thermometer. Now press and hold the blue “site selection” button, until the two scale options begin alternating on the display. Release the site selection button when your preferred temperature scale is shown. The device will then power off after 2 seconds. Now all temperature displays, including the ones stored in your thermometer’s memory will display using your preferred scale.

    Seeing a lot of the same issues we experience with this one. It gives a different reading each time you use it. Will go from 101 to 98 or 97 in a matter of minutes.

      Happens with us all the time too, it’s frustrating esp when you’re getting 94.8°F and then a second time getting 100.4° on my 9 month old smh

    I just bought this and I'm having the same experience as others here. I can take my temperature 3 times in a row and get readings up to 2 degrees F apart.

      @@vickshumidifiersthermomete2655 Do select area choice & then wait to insert it after the light shuts off & the 3 lines come up? Or do you select area choice & insert it right away before the light shuts off & 3 lines come up??
      Inserting it within the 1 second span after area selection is made but before the light shuts off & the 3 lines pop up seems to make a 2°-3° variation difference compared to waiting till after light fully shuts off & then inserting. Also inserting after light is off & 3 lines pop up gives basically INSTANT reading where as inserting before light shuts off right before 3 lines tends to take about 4-5secs to give reading. But idk which one is the more accurate temperature. It seems reasonable that the slightly longer time would give more correct temp but idk how your product it supposed to work so any insight would be great. Thank you.

    I have been getting very inconsistent temps when taking multiple times in a row (+/- a full degree).... I do notice that the screen with the three ready dashes is not backlit with green as it is in the video and photo...

    I'm getting a variance between 100-103 F. The difference between staying home and going to the emergency room. Not really ideal. Asking a friend to bring me another more stable thermometer

    Why does this device give wildly different readings? Its as though its so rapid that it doesn't have time to determine the actual temp, so it just spits out a number after a certain amount of time. Is there something im missing? Am I to hold it in my hand for a few seconds prior to taking an oral reading? Can you point me towards more detailed instruction?

      I barely get the thing under my tongue and it reads out already. within minutes very inconsistent readings. It is brand new. I'll go on amazon and get one of the off brands. It will probably work better. Disappointed in Vicks.

    I just bought one of these, used it and it said I had a temp of 101.5 in the red range, took it again and it said 99.9 in green range, got a third reading, everytime I take it it gives me different temperatures, shouldn't it be consistent even if you take it several times in a row?

      I just bought one today, and am having the same problem. I took three temperatures under the tongue and got three high temperatures (100.1, 99.8, 101.1), When I use my old thermometer that takes a minute before it beeps, it says 98.7. ??

      I got the replacement one, took my temperature 6 times in a row, took it, turned it off, waited a few seconds etc. and it read between 98.1 and 98.8, so while it was not exactly the same it was much more consistent.
      EDIT: I took it again several times today and it is starting to jump all over the place again, one time it is 99.2 then seconds later it is 97.1 then 98.7 so I have to say that I don't think these thermometers are any good, they should be very consistent within a few tenths of degrees each time you use them not jump around like this.

      Hello! Clean the thermometer by washing with soap and warm water or rubbing alcohol (70% isopropyl alcohol). Wipe dry with soft cloth. DO NOT boil or clean in dishwasher. This will cause the thermometer to no longer function and will void the warranty.

    I noticed that if I take my temperature by opening my mouth, placing deep under tongue, close mouth completely. I get a normal reading. If I place it in the same spot after having my mouth closed for more than 5 minutes and push it past my lips then it reads 100.2. So what is the more accurate method? Is it more accurate if I have had my mouth closed for 5 mins and then push the thermometer through my lips without opening my mouth and place under the tongue?

    Didn't work when i got it. Replaced the battery. Took forever to get it to under arm reading. Do you add 1 degree when taking arm pit reading or not? Makes a huge difference of so.

      We're sorry to hear you had this experience. To clarify, if using the under the arm (Axillary) use, this method produces a temperature 1 degree lower than a temperature taken orally. You would need to add 1 degree to the temperature reading to be equivalent to an oral reading. Please note, the timed read out for this thermometers is 8-10 seconds.       That is a good question. Oral temperatures have been tested to be exactly equivalent to tympanic (ear) temperature readings, which many medical professionals use. Auxiliary (under the arm) temperatures are around 1 degree Fahrenheit lower than oral temperatures, and rectal temperatures are around 1 degree Fahrenheit higher than oral temperatures. The reason we have you select a site, is so when you use the thermometer in that site, it will display the oral equivalent temperature so you do not have to remember to add or subtract, removing any worry about a false low or high temperature reading.     I can't remove the cap to change battery

      Hey Connie. In order to remove the battery cover, we recommend using a coin and turning the battery cover to the unlock position. Next, carefully remove the battery and replace with a 3V, CR2032 lithium battery. Insert the new battery with the positive (+) side facing the battery cover. At this time, you may replace the battery cover and tighten until in the locked position. We hope this information is helpful!     within minutes my temp went from 99.2 to 100.1 and then back down to 98.8. This is the wrong time to sell something that is so inconsistent. I know I have a sinus infection (maybe) and the mucus is in the back of my throat and my head is splitting. So with this virus going around with all kinds of different symptoms. I am a senior citizen widow and no one is around. Last night and tonight the thermometer became my companion. For the 24 hours it has been inconsistent. I thought the Vicks was better than this.

    This thermometer is so inconsistent! I get very different temps when I take it back to back. I thought I ordered the speed read comfort flex one I used to have. That one worked so well! This gives readings almost too fast. Last time I had it in my mouth for less than a second before it beeped.

    I have 2 Vicks thermometers and this one shown in the video consistently is wrong or misleading. I took my temperature with both thermometers and got 101 on this one shown in the video and 98.1 on the other. I'm more inclined to believe the older one because after multiple test readings the temp only fluctuated by .3 in either direction but the one shown in this video showed massive temperature changes after multiple tests (101, 99.8, 98.3, and 97.8)

    Q1: Just bought this thermometer but have yet to receive it. Does it come with the plastic disposable tip covers as shown in the video's 0:01 mark? If so, how many?
    Q2: Can this thermometer be used with the plastic disposable tip covers? The video is a little confusing since at the 1:02 mark it says to be sure to make skin contact. Please advise.

      Hey Efren. We apologize for any confusion this has caused. To clarify, this thermometer will include a hard plastic protective cover as shown in the 0:01 mark. Also, if you wish, you may use disposable probe covers with this thermometer. However, you may still use this thermometer without probe covers. We do recommend washing and disinfecting the thermometer after each use.
      To wash the thermometer, you may use soap with warm water until all visible soil is removed.
      To disinfect the unit, you have two options:
      1. You may wet a paper towel with 10% bleach solution, holding the tip of the device with the wet paper towel for 30 seconds, then wiping the tip for approximately 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Rinse the tip with water for 30 seconds and dry.
      2. You may also spray the tip of the thermometer with Lysol Disinfectant Spray until all surfaces of the tip are wet. Allow the thermometer to sit for 10 minutes. Rinse the tip with water for 30 seconds and let dry.

    I've had my smart temp for about 4 years now and I've never had a problem pairing it, but I went to pair it on my new Samsung cellphone and it refuses to pair. I tried about 7 times. My phone alerted me that my cellphone, which is 5G, has an old version of the app but the play store only has 1 app for the thermometer. I shouldn't have to to drag out my ipad pro at 4:55 am and turn it on and enter my code...than find the Vicks icon just to take my temperature. For the first time I'm very disappointed in this thermometer.

      Location is very important as different parts of the body have different temperatures.     I have been using this one for about 2 weeks says I have a low grade fever the range is 99.5 to 100.5 how for over 7 days i have had chills each time the fever is higher. I have read many complaints about this thermometer but online retailers websites its all happy talk about how great it is but on here it's junk and unreliable. Due to covid19 I purchased a second one exactly the same and my partner also has a fever. We put brand new batteries in each thermometer and the readings seem to be consistent . Both thermometers are saying we both have a fever so I don't know. A five year cvs thermometer says i don't and it's reading normal

      Thank you for your inquiry. To change the thermometer's battery, using a coin, unlock the battery cover and carefully remove the battery with a non-metallic instrument. Replace the battery with a 3V, CR2032 lithium type, and insert the new battery with the positive (+) side facing the battery cover. Then, carefully replace the battery cover and use a coin to tighten the cover. We hope this information is helpful.       The button battery the comes with this thermometer is the CR2032. The prefix, “CR”, is a branding for the company that makes that battery. In this case, CR is Panasonic. However, you can use any 2032 battery. These batteries are considered watch batteries and are often available at jewelry stores, battery retailers, pharmacies, or online.       If yours uses cr1225 like mine then try cr1220, I was able to in one of those. Ignore the response from vicks, they have no clue what goes into their own product.

    Very strange product! The only way I get consistent back-to-back readings is ignoring the instructions here and inserting the thermometer after selecting a site but before the dashed lines display. Waiting for the dashed lines returns a "reading" about 1 second after insertion, and back-to-back readings will vary by 1 to 2 whole degrees. My Rite Aid product is much more reliable.

If taking multiple readings, please make sure the probe tip has cooled down between readings, as if the probe tip is already warm, this may cause the device to read higher than the actual temperature. Also, we recommend waiting until the 3 lines appear on the screen as this indicates the thermometer is ready to take a temperature measurement.     THIS IS A HORRIBLE THERMOMETER. It IS confusing, and It is neither "rapid" or reliable. Imagine you are up in the middle of the night with a sick child and you find this thermometer which forces you to go through several prompts (for instance, you must choose if your measuring the head, or armpit or bottom??!!,). Then, you reread the directions because it appears not to work, and takes precious minutes just to "set up" before you can even get a reading. Awful. Who came up with this silly mechanism when there are so many great thermometers on the market?

You can set a perferred temperature location on this thermometer, so that if you are always going to take a thermometer the same way, you can skip over setting the location (which is important because underarm temperatures are about 1 degree lower than oral temperatures, and rectal temperatures are 1 degree higher, and setting the location calculates the temperature to read the oral temperature equivalent to reduce mistaken temperatures.)     Im getting multiple wildly different readings also and all see from Vicks on here is the same message copied and pasted. Total junk of a product. My old Vicks digital thermometer was the same exact way. I also have a digital Rite Aide thermometer that takes over a minute to read but that one is alot more accurate than this one. The only drawback is the battery died within a couple of months

With all these other negative experiences ive seen in the comments the best course of action would be to take it off the market and start from scratch. This one could mean the difference between a trip to the hospital or not. My husband had a high fever and it read 99.1. A few seconds later it wss 102 then 100 then 101 then back to 100 again all in a matter of minutes. When he got to the hospital and they took it it was 101. Turns out he had a blood infection which could have turned septic if he had relied on its readings.

    this product needs to be taken off the market. This is ridiculous. I've experienced the same issues everyone here has. Vicks, what is the point of a thermometer that isn't accurate? ESPECIALLY when it''s a product that is supposed to gauge an aspect of an individual's health, and ESPECIALLY during this pandemic. I've used this thermometer 6 times and each time was a different result, ranging from 99-102, This range is extremely broad! the differences between a 101 and 102 temperature are pretty big. But now, the worst thing is that I can't even trust that it is anywhere remotely accurate. I had to use a meat thermometer and turns out I'm around 99. Stark difference from 102. So, as stated, your product is useless and you need to take it off the market because you are giving people inaccurate data about their health and it's only a matter of time before it costs someone their life

    Never used such an inaccurate product. Super frustrating when trying to determine if you have a sick child. One minute, the temperature is 98.5 and the next it’s 100.1. I have no idea why this product was so expensive but it does not live up to it.

    Don't buy it! Used it about 10 times in three years. Battery died. A year later I ordered new batteries. Replaced batteries and it came on but the display text is kablooey! Don't waste your money!

    Never buy Vick’s thermometer. I have a different model, and I’m having the same problems that people are describing with this other model. Pice of shit. One can’t even calibrate it.
