    My 2010 went into limp mode. Everything I read looked like it was the tcm. Took it to JK Chevrolet in Port Arthur Tx. They called and said it needed a new trans. Full metal contamination, no reverse pressure, etc. Went and got it on a trailer and took it to Gound Chevrolet in Nacogdoches Tx. They put a tcm on it and that was all it needed. The first dealer hadn’t touched the drain plug or screw on filter, I checked because I have no faith in mechanics.

I was given extensive warnings about my Allison would be running too cold behind my cumins using medium duty truck programming that locks in 2nd gear(~20mph) . I had my 2003 Allison go into limp mode while I was on vacation. The truck had 20k on it. I lost 3rd, 5th and reverse. Initially it slipped in 3rd then went down to 2nd for limp mode. Didn’t work well on the freeway. I quickly figured out that if I stepped on it then let off as soon as it was in 3rd, it would get past 3rd into 4th then 5th, slip in 5th then go back to limp in 4th. The dealer wasn’t able to fix it and I managed to limp home for about 500 miles. My dealer back home found a damaged clutch seal that was installed incorrectly from the factory.

    What could potentially cause a pretty firm/odd 3-4 upshift in my LML? It doesn’t do it any other shift that I can tell, but you can also hear a clunk or a click sound whenever it shifts, and it doesn’t feel like any of the other shifts. It’s done it for maybe 2 years now and I’ve never been able to figure out the cause. Have no other issues whatsoever with the trans. Bone stock truck till 2500 miles ago, has 112k on the clock. I’ve changed the internal filter twice now and run only Transynd fluid.

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  Před 5 měsíci

      @underdog576967 I would definitely get that checked out! There is definitely the possibility that something could have happened internally to cause this. Chancing the fluid and filter could be a good way to see if any contamination has taken place. However you'll likely have to drain it all again if you don't find anything and nothing changes.

Mine keeps acting up after pulling out on the highway getting up to speed but not getting after it. Just part throttle almost to 50 mph maybe 5-6 shift or 6-7th shift it pauses like it missed a shift? truck hesitates and jerks then drops shift and shifts up and works past it. will do it hot or cold no codes yet but am afraid of a huge failure at the worst time! So question caconversions in a SEMA show on CZcamstalks about the Alison and gm programing causing a lot heat because the programing is done to accommodate the customers with smooth and gentle shift which create heat and heat is bad. So they said if the owner of the truck could flash the ecm and tell it that it’s mated to a manual trans then let the Alison shift on it’s own the transmission would be better and “learn” and definitely last longer. So my question to you guys, is this true?

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  Před 2 lety

      That would be very hard to prove. In our experience, a smooth shifting Allison generally lasts the life of the truck if you're not out chasing power. So when someone says the heat caused by smooth shifting is a problem, I wonder what the grounds for that claim is?

    • @nickpriegnitz5895
      @nickpriegnitz5895 Před 5 lety +1

      Grinding sounds are rarely good, unless you're in the coffee business. If it's the first time the trans has made that shift at that load then it's possible it's just learning and will smooth out on the next shift. The allison is an adaptive learning trans and is subject to getting confused briefly between towing and non-towing.

    Also when swapping out the tranny or when your flushing out the tranny cooler don’t forget about flushing the fluid lines as well. A lot of crap can collect and stay in the line and end up right into the new tranny. The lines are junk from the factory anyways they seem to fail at all the crimp metal to rubber joints (fittings) due to vibration. So I would suggest if swapping out the tranny then replace the lines with a nice aftermarket replacement. That’s one of the few
    Times when I would not even bother with the OEM lines since I don’t think they fixed the problem. Now I believe my torque converter is failing in my tranny. What is the point to where I’m able to just swap out the torque converter before it destroys my tranny

    Anybody have any info on why it would start doing a very hard downshift from 2nd to 1st ? I towed a light load less than 5k lbs for about 80 miles down a mountain highway with only about 5 miles of any step uphill grade. Didn't push it hard and it has never gone into limp mode. But as soon as I dropped the trailer the hardshift started and had persisted for 3+ weeks. Fluid is good and changed spin off filter. Any help would be appreciated.

    I have a bio diesel question to ask. Normally I noticed that the bio diesel blend at the pumps in Oregon are 15 percent. Here about a week ago at a station I noticed that the pump showed that that blend was 20 percent. After getting fuel in about week or so I started having issues with my Duramax to get it to regenerate. It would throw a code and then put the truck in detune mode. My engine is the LMM 2008. Is this caused by the 5 percent increase in the bio fuel?

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  Před 4 lety

      Possibly but more likely that it is just a coincidence in timing. We have plenty of pumps here in IL with 20% bio and I wouldn't expect that to be the emissions equipment killer.

    Could you clarify please are you talking about the A1000 that was in the GM class 2-3 trucks or an Allison 1000 series that you would not find in the GM class 2-3, but in the GM 4500-5500-6500? The A1000 is a very old transmission over a decade old. When Allison and GM parted ways, GM retained the rights to the A1000, and could make it royalty free so long as it was not modified by GM. An Allison 1000 is not the same as the GM A1000 found in Sierra's and Silverado's through model year 2018. The A1000 is still a very good transmission, it's just not an Allison 1000 series. D

    How exactly do clutch packs engage?

    • @thomasmolitor960
      @thomasmolitor960 Před 5 lety

      The clutches rotate with the planetary gears. Then there is an apply piston for every pack. The piston pushes the clutch steels and the clutches together to "lock them together". Making the gear ratio. Like rubbing your hands together then pushing so hard that they will no longer slide.
