    The core charge on an Allison is no joke. Doing an even swap and calling it good is huge, considering you can buy up used units from recyclers for pennies on the dollar. I’m curious to see the whole install with a t-case, and how you adapt that. Changing driveline length is a given when doing something like this, so that shouldn’t surprise anybody.

    • @timryan1360
      @timryan1360 Před 3 lety +5

      Its opposite. The Exhaust brake turns on at the downshift. Not the other way around. And only in tow haul mode. The exhaust brake on a 69 with the shift timing is bad ass towing. Throw you forward in the seat and all you have to do is tap the brakes. I wouldnt want to lose that either, but the causation is opposite.

    I have really had an eye for the Dodge 3/4 ton and 1 ton SRW Cummins trucks for a little while now. Especially the 5th gen trucks. The one thing that's always kept me from pulling the trigger on buying one is the transmissions. I've heard so much negative stuff about the trans in dodge trucks. Everyone I know that's had a dodge truck (gas or diesel) has all had transmission issues out of them. And for the price of these trucks, you shouldn't have to worry about if they're going to last.
    You know Dodge has to know about the issues they have. I've always wondered how come dodge doesn't sink a little R&D into finding out why their trans keep failing and correct these issues to make them more reliable?
    This would be a pretty good powertrain. Cummins with an Allison.

My current plan is a new Detroit Diesel and I'm not sure if I should put an Allison trans or a new 4L80 (the original 4L80 is currently in it)...my plan is to produce around 450 HP and be a daily driver. I do love Cummins, but I've heard it is not an easy conversion for this body of truck. I plan to bulletproof the Detroit Diesel. I just bought a new Fuso box truck with a 6.0 gas engine.
    Has a 1000 series Allison transmission.
    I had to get rid of my diesel box truck, the emissions issues/repairs were getting out of control.
    I only drive it about 20k miles per year, so even with the fuel savings I was spending more on repair, tows, rentals, downtime than I was saving.
    And I didn’t want to go the delete route.
    Don’t know all the differences that they can come with.
    But the transmission has a 5 year unlimited mile warranty, so I guess they believe in it.

I certainly like the idea of getting away from the 68RFE but my question is what's the difference in cost if I'm looking for something that will handle say 600hp? We have a 2008 2500 Megacab 2wd. I'm not looking to race or anything else just thinking about adding compounds for lower EGT's and more power while towing circa 14-17k. Thanks for the information.

    • @timryan1360
      @timryan1360 Před 3 lety +4

      No one does but its also because as an aftermarket parts company, theres not much you can do to a 69. I have a 14 delete tuned HO. Cant tune the trans. He mentions line pressure is already maxed. He doesnt mention that it has a 4 disc converter which cant really be improved upon in stock form... There are converters you can drop in, but not really tangible improvement. We all know 68s suck. The dramatic effect for the video is better. Not as good to say "look as these two beef shafts" lol. This is going to be mostly for the 68 guys because thats the market opp. They break alot. If you have an AISIN you dont really need an allison unless it breaks. That doesnt happen very often, but its nice to be able to compare costs because like anything... it can break. A bolt in 69 is 7-8K before core. If this is similar price and works with all the creatures like he said? Itd be a better shifting AISIN. Thats the biggest complaint with an AISIN and mine too. Its a clunky shifting beast, but it is a beast. Reminds you youre driving a truck and not a ford taurus.

      The hate to be the bearer of bad news but the Aisin is not built much stronger than a 68rfe. Put a deleted and tuned 6.7l with a cheetah turbo strong enough for 700hp and 2000lb tq and it breaks also pretty easily.

    • @timryan1360
      @timryan1360 Před 3 lety +1

      @@marlboroman71818 what? There is no stock transmission on the planet that can take 700/2000 and it takes more than throwing a cheetah on a 6.7 to get it. If you were at 700hp on a cummins, youre not at 2k tq. If youre at 2k torque youre at more than 700 hp. While we are talking about anecdotal evidence a guy broke his aisin doing a burnout with a 200hp tune. He asked on a more than popular cummins forum if anyone else had ever broken theirs.... crickets. Anything can break but an aisin with a mild tune does not. Cant say that about any other transmission. Including an allison.

If you want to see more I suggest you check out some of firepunks videos. No one said stock transmission. We are talking built 68rfes and Aisins that have no aftermarket support with cummins that actually make the power that easily breaks them just from an upgraded factory turbo, tune, deletes and a few other things.
