- George Lucas leads tributes to Carrie Fisher at Celebration, including a speech from her daughter Billy Lourd followed by no less than John Williams conducting the concert version of Leia's own themeas well as other classics to commemorate 40 Years of Star Wars.
Sadly, I had to remove the five-minute tribute reel video due to over-zealous copyright holders of a popular song used as background - you'll find this part on the official channel. - Zábava
John Williams waves his hand "You don't have to applaud anymore"
Audience: "We don't have to applaud anymore..."
ha ha see wut you did there ,,,,=^..^=,,,,
The force is strong with him
'This is not the applause time you're looking for.'
Nice nice
Applaud.
The power of John Williams......he waved his hand and the entire audience shut up in .4 seconds....that is how awesome Williams is
The force is with him always!
i also have force, if i want audience to shut up i turn tv off with one click of index finger

It's as though millions of voices cried out in love and appreciation.....and we're suddenly silenced.

He bathes in money to preserve his youth.
He uses the force to stay young.
John says shut it. They shut it. I think he is an actual Jedi.
Rationalist Yoda it's Master Williams, not John
Fair enough.
His lightsaber's gonna be something like Beige or Gold.
Or you know.. a Sith. Only a Sith deals in absolute!
Using his Jedi mind tricks
“Without John Williams, bikes don’t really fly, nor do brooms in Quidditch matches, nor do men in red capes. There is no Force, dinosaurs do not walk the Earth, we do not wonder, we do not weep, we do not believe.”
The "Help me Obi Wan Kenobi" speech still makes me tear up when she says it. Great tribute to her mom. Such a tragic loss, and even more so because Carrie's own mother died the following day, no doubt of a broken heart.
She sounded so much like her mother when she said that!
George misses her so much did anyone see how emotional he was getting
There is no doubt in my mind he had a 40 year crush on her.
Jim Humphries he totally did
Unlike Kathleen Kennedy that is seen reading a teleprompter, you can also tell that Lucas is speaking with his heart.
Yeah George looked like a sad Puppy! 😭😭😭😭
Yeah and the lady besides him is killing Starwars.
That horn soloist was crying.
Harry S. Plinkett cause he was so out of tune
petr kouba fuck off
Yes he wasn't playing 100 % right, but the rest sounds good!
@@McElioth probably because he was getting emotional
That might explain the intonation issues. His embouchure was awful. He got through it though, which is more than I could have done.
This was super hard for George to do because he is most definitely a socially awkward introvert. But Carrie's passing hit us all so hard, I'm glad he stepped up to the plate and talked to the fans here. You can hear his voice crack here and there so I know it was very difficult for him, but great respect to him for doing it.

Leia’s theme always makes me cry. Or is that just me.

I wonder how many of those musicians are living out their childhood fantasy of playing the Star Wars theme with John Williams conducting
It was amazing, for sure. We had also played with Mr. Williams conducting when Harry Potter opened at Universal. That was cool, too, but playing Star Wars with him conducting was so exciting. We didn't know until the night before that he would be conducting when he showed up half way through our rehearsal with a "regular" conductor.

And today I came back to hear John Williams play the STAR WARS theme because I just got the news that I am now a great aunt. This video is a celebration of STAR WARS and the life of Carrie Fisher, but the music is just so right for new life too. So I'm listening to this because I have a new "great" niece, daughter of my youngest nephew and his wife. The baby was just born this evening.
I lost it when billy said "you are my only hope "
That music gets me every time.

In Cinema, there is no greater conductor and composer than John Williams. Through his scores, we have believed in magic and wizards, scene the awe of dinosaurs roam the earth once more, watched as a boy, a princess and a ruffian save an entire galaxy, and teach us that our wildest dreams are possible.
George Lucas is like "F' it, I'm wearing jeans. Carrie would approve."

Pretty sure that's what George has said when he wakes up every morning for the last 50 years.

Yeah! Facebook has one how come YT doesn’t!
the look on John's face as the theme music started and he heard the crowd. thats a man that appreciates the art he's made and the impact its had on peoples lives.
He’s an extremely humble man. Like most musicians, he wears his heart on his sleeve and never thinks he’s achieved perfection except in moments like this
@@peterweatherley7669 Hans Zimmer says that he always wants to tweak some little things after his work is done. These people are never 100% happy with their work and that's good. That's the artist's spirit.
This theme is magical, I just cannot hear the first note without it putting a smile on my face
Among all the modern movie composers, I simply refer to him as "GOD". There is NO GREATER modern movie composer than John Towner Williams!!!
@@Bearical that's not necessarily true. Artists are very different from to the other in all fields. Some are very good at letting go and being content with what they've created. Some are very happy with some of their works. For example, you have Harrison Ford who was NEVER that big of a Star Wars fan - but you had Mark Hammill who was and is as big of a fan as the rest of us. Ford just saw Han Solo as work. Another role. Mark always exudes tremendous pride and love for Luke, his role he played, and the movies they were. Williams really does strike me as proud of what he accomplished and doesn't feel the need to change anything but rather play it like it was/is.
Only John Williams can shush a crowd in 1 second
And I also love the sheer joy on his face when the crowd goes nuts at the Star Wars theme
Princess Leia's Theme was the best piece John Williams ever wrote. Since Carrie Fisher died, I never hear it without crying.

I love the reaction the audience had when they saw John Williams. His music lifted SW to what it is and always will be.. Lucas was right, he made the secret sauce to SW.
the real power is john getting that many ppl to this in a second
Me too
Lucas said in one interview that he had very high expectations when he made Star Wars, and the only thing that exceeded his expectations was the music of John Williams.
You can REALLY tell that George does not relish the thought of talking in public. But, he did it anyway, and my hat's off to him for that. You could also hear him almost choke up a little at the very beginning. Still such a shock. I really hope her part in SW:TLJ is worthy of her and her character.
Oh, and John Williams is THE MAN!
JustWasted3HoursHere It wasn't, but that still doesn't change how great Carrie and Leia were to us.
she was the best character in it but that's not saying much
That me sequels were absolutely horrific...but that doesn’t change how AMAZING the originals are, of course without John Williams the magic wouldn’t have been half as great. They should’ve just left it alone
The movie was bad, but Luke and Leia's scene was amazing.
@@bartholomewthundercatiii3484 it was amazing tho
Carrie was perfect for the role because she was essentially playing herself. And her daughter's recitation of the "General Kenobi" speech was awesome.
Awesome and if you listen closely, you can hear Carrie as Leia saying it. Yes, awesome indeed ❤
I just realized the Star Wars theme is so iconic that we recognize it from the first NOTE.

I just love John Williams' smirk at the start of the main theme tune .. what a legend.
John: "I know, I can't believe I wrote it, either."
I thought the smirk was, "That's the most involuntary cheering I've ever heard. They know they're supposed to be quiet, but they hear that ONE note with a triangle behind it and everything breaks loose."

The opening theme will always be remember by many, especially by the Star Wars fans. The theme is truly magnificent. Big respect with the maestro Mr. John Williams and the musicians. He’s truly a Legend 😇🙏
14:05 I LOVE the look on his face at this moment. It's the look of his realization that the culmination of his life's work is so incredibly and wonderfully appreciated. I like to think, in that moment, that he got to see Star Wars fans' raw reaction to one of the music scores that raised generation (or two).
It's actually 3 generations now, my Dad was in school when Star Wars came out, I was in school when the prequels came out and now my kids are in school growing up enjoying those two trilogies!
After 40 years I see John Williams has mastered the force.
He mastered the force the moment he created Leia's theme...what a song.
He has mastered the Force the moment he wrote the main theme
After watching The Last Jedi. A 20 year old manchild just started crying when listening to the theme. This does not happen often at all.

I love the sequel trilogy, but yes I definitely agree that John Williams is amazing
@@joec7217 same here. I love all the films

We all have our own opinions on the films, but one thing we can all agree on is that John Williams is outstanding in all of them.
The sequels were alright overall, but enjoyable, IMO. But I, along with the vast majority of SW fans can agree on is that John Williams made some god-tier music for the movies. This man can do no wrong.
She is with the force and the force is with her... forever
Adéla Knopová the force was invented in the 70s. I don't think it will last forever.
When one dies they become one with the force and binds with it and is one with the living force. And we are surrounded by the force
She will be a Force ghost along with Han,Luke,Leia,Anakin,Yoda,Obi Wan.
Daisy can call up the force ghosts to be at her side...she will be the leader of a new group of jedi warriors in the upcoming new star wars movie.
I get the chills of the Star Wars music John Williams has created. It is soooo beautiful, emotional, magical... it is pure magic. It allows us to dream, to be inspired, to simply put... smile.
Thank you John, for giving us real magic.
Rest In Peace, Carrie. Truly our Princess, always.
So well said.
I do too. Your body releases dopamine which causes the chills. It's your brain rewarding you for listening to John Williams.
Well said. Well said. And compared with the music it makes me cry.
You know what? Sometimes we think that certain emotions depends on associations - I mean, these were the Star Wars musics, I pretty much grew up watching those movies - but most of the time with John Williams it's quite the opposite... those feelings were *that* strong back then, thanks to his powerful and imaginative soundtrack... when I listen to these themes I don't think to any particular moment of the movies, it's more like listening to some condensed Čajkovskij's Symphony. Williams is truly one of the greatest composer of the 20th century.
Hammern28 his music takes me to another plane of existence
Princess Leia is my sentimental favorite Star Wars character, because as a 4-year-old girl in 1977, I admire this beautiful, dark haired woman who is this badass, tough warrior and hero. She fought along side the big boys. No! These big men, Chewbaca, a droid and R2D2. Billie’s beautiful and what a beautiful fashion tribute to her mother’s iconic role. I was moved to tears when Billie said Princess Leia’s first lines in her first scene in the original film.
12:11 Just amazing, only John Williams is able to produce a piece of music that has touched the souls of millions. Carrie lives on whenever we hear this track and it’s truly touching. May the force always be with her.

"Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those who transform into the Force." Because the Force will be with her. Always.

This just goes to show John Williams completely understands not only his art, but the characters and themes his art portrays as well.
12:11 is a perfect example. The high pitched strings are a call to Leia's sensitive and caring nature, with the horns reminding you of her much bolder side, her willingness to stand and fight for what she believes in, even against an entire empire. The scale of the song gives a sense of mystery, like that of a distant galaxy, showing that Leia is not afraid to venture into the unknown if it means going after what is significant to her.
TL;DR John Williams wrote a song that perfectly sums up our princess. But you guys knew that already.
i remember watching this live during SWC, and laughed at how quickly john quieted the audience.... then the music started... and I wept like a baby as I whispered "It's Leia's theme" all these years later and I still cry during that piece. Amazing moment when those curtains open Leia's theme comes in, with John Williams there conducting. Would loved to have been there, saw it live during the stream at least.
I know it's like this for alot of people but I just wanna share why John Williams' music means so much to me. I saw my first star wars movie at 8 years old. I watched all the movies in the span of about a week at that time (in order, mind you). I played all the video games. The original battlefront games, lego star wars, force unleashed, and I'm still playing Battlefront II despite its many flaws. This music is quite literally the soundtrack of my life. These songs and scores have been with me from a very young age. When I hear them, I know I am hearing a piece of timeless music that means so much to so so many people. I am so glad that Star Wars is a part of my life and I am so thankful to my Dad for introducing me to Star Wars and answering all my Star Wars questions when we were watching all the movies together. I'll always be thankful to my Dad for that. These songs still reach the 8 year old kid inside me today and bring back so many good memories. I would always watch the movies (usually the Original Trilogy) on the portable dvd player we had in our car when we took long trips. I remember when my grandmother gifted me the box set of the original trilogy. It was the best gift I ever received to this day it sits on my shelf in my bedroom 12 years later. This music captures a part of me that will never change. My love for this franchise, through thick and thin, is unedning, and this music really is and always will be the soundtrack of my life.
Thomas Daniel I literarily agree with everything you just said. Carrie, Mark, and Harrison have touched my life everyday. when I found out about Carries passing, I cried. Why would anyone record it on their crummy cell phone instead of enjoying being there and watching it later here on youtube?
though I did not pull my phone out I can defend those that did in saying if they were anyone like the people around me they were polite enough to make sure they weren't blocking anyone's view and because this was a very stationary portion, most just held their phone and then watched with their own eyes.

Mico Carlo Adrian Ruiz That’s a bit extreme. KJ was telling the truth
orange42 Most people who were there were crying and enjoying it while simultaneously holding their phone above their heads so they could watch it back over and over for years to come. you can enjoy it with a phone in your hands, and the recording permit you to enjoy it an infinite times later
