Not our song. Song belongs to Paul Mccartney

He’s a little older yes, but I remember Paul singing like that all the times when he was with his band “The Wings”.
I think Larry is still applying him to Beatles era. And he sang like that at times in late Beatles albums.
I thought he sounded great myself. I can’t believe he even hit the high end in that song at the beginning. Most wouldn’t even attempt that live.
.
McCartney's voice here was incredible!!!
It's because he was touring and in those days they performed almost every night which causes voice strain. He still sounded great. Pop, you are wrong again! Ethan is right again! Peace!!
Hello there! I love Paul's solo work. This is a fantastic live version. The piano work is so good. I like Silly Love Songs and Listen to What The Man Said. There are countless more. He is just a marvelous artist! His voice is like that on the regular recording too. Your dad's right Ethan. You are amazing!
Hi there. Caught out by the time again...
@@davemac1197 Hello! Good you made it!
Junior’s Farm is another good song that not too many bring up
Hi Cheryl, It's Paul McCartney Awesome is what he does, regularly.
Lawd, yes Paul was sick for that live concert special BUT he still sounded AMAZING! The grittiness plays right into that song. Dad fails, son is a rock star!
Great song by Paul, for sure.
Paul's voice was brilliant that night when you listen to the other songs. This was 77, he was 35. This song had rasping vocals in the original and more so live. Paul could make his voice do any style.
Linda's harmonies fitted in perfectly, played good keyboards.
Bad take on your part, agree with the lad here, lol
It was not 1977, it was WINGS 1976 "WINGS OVER AMERICA" TOUR. 🙂
@@patticrichton1135 fine, but the point remains 👍
that is what live is about. After 15 shows , your voice starts to go
“You right me when I’m wrong…”. Great tune. Thank you!
Linda had a pretty sweet voice .... :-)
In my top 5 Mac tunes. Enjoyed this reaction.
The original version was Paul playing all of the instruments as with all songs on the whole album with Linda doing backing vocals with him!
This is a good Paul McCartney song. My favorite by him is Band on the Run.
Hope in the future hope to see the second place finisher that was not far behind this one, George Harrison - My Sweet Lord.
Keep in mind that Wings was on a tour that lasted for months and Paul was singing the vast majority of the songs every night. No more explanation is needed.
Hey dad, go listen to the Beatles - oh, darling. Listen to Mcca's voice!!!! Paul had different sounds to his voice.
BTW, after being in The Beatles, Paul wanted his family with him when he went on tours.
I like when he makes his voice gritty, It sounds more soulful. I feel that's what he was going for,
Love this song so much! Good job, guys!
Thanks!! 😃 -Ethan
hi fellas , i enjoyed the song. i give Ethan credit for his staunch and unyielding defense in "The Case of the Raspy Voice". additionally , the highlight for me was his response to Larry's well done "whoo ooh whooo" w/a smile > "That was smooth" peace.

Great song!!!
I was at the show this was taken from- The Forum in Los Angeles on June 23, 1976. His voice is scratchy because it was taken from the last US show of tour that lasted nearly a year where they played nearly every night. His vocal chords were ripped to shreds. He had to take nearly three months off before they could finish the European leg.
Pole Thursday!
Favorite band of all time and you don't know that Paul had a rasp to his voice on demand during the 70s touring years. Widely believed to be his vocal peak. You didn't even know this was from RockShow released in 1980 from the 75-76 WOA tour. Go listen to the triple album Dad. Go listen to Kampuchea. Last Flight. His vocal prowess was incredible.
You can see the whole show in the film "Rockshow". According to the info on the box it was filmed in Seattle at the Kingdome. That puts the date at 10 June 1976. I know that because I was there that night. In reality this song was likely recorded a few nights later in L.A. at The Forum. Still a great memory.
Linda McCartney was actually a decent keyboard player and she could definitely sing just fine. You're thinking of Yoko Ono's voice that wasn't very good. Linda was the only person besides Paul on the original album version. She sang harmony background vocals.
She was an official member of the band {Wings) and she was like a bit of a grounding influence for Paul. She was his soulmate if ever such a thing existed.
The guitar solos by the late Jimmy Mac are amazing.
LOL. I was at one of the LA shows you're talking about. The last US show 23 June. And, yes, his voice is raspy because had just played shows nightly for almost a year. His vocal chords were ripped to shreds. And, yes this song was recorded at that show. So was Live and Let Die.
8:35 Paul had a very simple rule with him performing: "No wife, no show". Not really sure why that's an issue for you. I think it's awesome that he wouldn't perform without his wife. If I was a professional musician, and fell in love, and my wife was also talented, I'd have the exact same rule.
For the first time in three decades the three surviving members of the Beatles united in public together Monday to grieve over the death of Paul McCartney's wife Linda. The LA Times. peace.
Plus the always took all their children WITH them when they toured. FAMILY was VERY important to him
@@patticrichton1135 good man
This song is suppose to be sang this way. I was at this concert the other songs were not like this.
Blows away the studio version. I side with son on the vocal (though his voice is tired--but it really works with this).
Wow Your son is right! I can't believe you're a Beatle fan. They will go in the studio and sing it 50 times before the get the desired effect. Listen to the live version on the album Wings over America its dynamically different and the reason why it made on the album. Your son is spot on. PS this song was wrote before the Beatles broke up!
Great to see you guys exploring McCartney........hit up "Band On The Run" & "Jet"....
Ethan you need to listen to Helter Skelter I Want You, Back in The USSR, Twist and Shout etc if you think Beatles songs don't do that. But I'm with Ethan I like a little rasp in the vocals which is why I like Tom Waits, Rod Stewart, Bonnie Tyler et al.
*Ethan.

@@davemac1197 too true, but with small phone screens and my sausage fingers, autocorrect has got me out of more scrapes than it has caused, I do prefer a proper keyboard, these phone touch screen ones are truly terrible.

he sang like this in the Beatles
He sang in MANY voices in the Beatles. Larry can't be much of a Beatles fan if he doesn't know that.
While I never disliked Paul, whether if it was his Beatles work or solo work, I just never liked him near as much as George Harrison...who was so underappreciated for so long. It wasn't just this performance either. I've heard other performances where Paul just didn't sound very good to me. Larry, you keep on giving your opinions my friend.
Introduction by Wings guitarist of Denny Laine, who has been founder member of three groups - Denny Laine and the Diplomats in 1962 (with Bev Bevan on drums, later in The Move/ELO), The Moody Blues in 1964 (later replaced by Justin Hayward), and then Wings with Paul and Linda McCartney in 1971.
I thought I recognised the dulcet Brummie tones of Denny Laine, he was also co-writer of many of the Wings songs, one-off fhe reasons he left Wings was the lack of recognition of his contribution to the band.
@@simply_psi - up to a point I think he had a good point. I know Bev Bevan thought he went too far on occasions. While they were in the Diplomats, Denny dyed his hair blond, apparently to make himself stand out as the leader of the group, but everyone else thought it was a great idea and they all dyed their hair blond as well, thinking it was a new look that Denny was trying out for the band. Denny was absolutely furious! He complained that nobody would know which one was him any more. I heard a more recent radio interview with him on CZcams and he seemed to be absolutely fine, had a lot positive things to say about people he worked with, looking back on his extraordinary career.
@@davemac1197 I think he felt a bit betrayed by what had happened to him a few times in tge music industry like what happened woth The Moody Blues, and he thought that Bev, Jeff and Roy stole his sound/concept from The Electric String Band when they formed ELO.
Hi Dave, cool info once again.
@@66edoug - Hi Ed! History and connections are cool.
I highly recommend you go down the rabbit hole that is the Beatles. Paul had a fantastic solo career. Band on The Run with Wings is a great song, and there's a song he did in the 80's for a film he was working on called Give My Regards to Broadstreet. It wasn't a great film, but the soundtrack was wonderful! The best song off of that soundtrack has to be No More Lonely Nights. That's one I would ask you to watch the original video of!
Great song to cover ! One of his best with the band! Next of Paul’s songs to react to should be either Band on the Run or Silly Love Songs. This is a live version so you might want to react to the original recording.Bruce Springsteen’s wife, Patty was a good professional musician before she met Bruce.
I disagree. I'm also a huge Beatles fan and Paul was trying to make that scratchy soulful sound. Also, Linda voice greatly compliments Paul, unlike Yoko.
See what happens when Larry can't say POLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL THURSDAY 😎
Yes Paul McCartney CAN make his voice go like that! If you're a true Beatles fan you would definitely know this. He did it purposely on ' OH DARLING " as well! You have a very observant son! He knows his music. Thumbs up for son,Thumbs down for Dad...sorry dad but you are incorrigible sir! 🤪
I wish I could show you guys what a HUGE Beatles fan that Iam. Not sure if I can upload pics. No love lost though! Love ya's both! ❤🤘✌😁❤

Great song having linda in the band made wings better...she help him when the beatles broke up..i think she has a good voice..rip linda...
Now that you reacted to a Beatle, it is time to react to The Monkees. Start with Porpoise Song (Theme From Head).
😎👍
Call yourself a Beatles fan but you've never heard Paul's voice "scratchy"? Never listened to "Helter Skelter"? or "Oh Darlin'"? Or "Long Tall Sally"? Sounds like you're one of those fans who knows the singles but hasn't listened to any album tracks...
I don’t know any of them. I’m sure my dad has. I believe he had a few of their albums when he was younger -Ethan
@@fatherandsonreactions Ok, Ethan, you admitted that your dad had a "few" of their albums. I don't see how he can claim that he is a "big Beatles fan" if he only has a few albums. The dead give away to me was him saying that he NEVER heard Paul sing in a "scratchy" voice. IMMEDIATElY I smacked my forehead and said "WHAT"?! IF he was a "BIG BEATLES fan" He would have every album and single the Beatles made, PLUS he would have EVERY SOLO album that Paul, John, George and Ringo made. I do! I know all the nuances of Paul's voice and your Dad is SO wrong to say "he must be sick cos his voice sounds scratchy"
I enjoy Paul's solo career more than the other 3 members combined
Dad is gonna sink this channel.
Haha!!! Well he does have some controversial opinions -Ethan
John Lennon sang that way in so many beatles song so I think they borrowed off each other.
I’m back
Thought I would mention again
Tesla! Heavens Trail 🤞🤘🙏
I loved his stuff with Wings more than I did any Beatles song.
Bev Bevan's book 'The Electric Light Orchestra Story' explains why you don't bring your wife/girlfriend on tour with you. ELO did this on a tour of Spain, Spain being a popular holiday destination for many Brits, so the band (or maybe the wives/girlfriends) decided to take their wives/girlfriends along to make a holiday trip of the tour. It was a big mistake. Things came to a head when the arguments on the tour bus were finally stopped by Bev's wife Valerie standing up at the front of the bus and shouting "SIT DOWN! SHUT UP! OR GET OFF THE XXXXXX BUS!" - This inevitably became an instant band catchphrase...
The other reason you don't have your other halves involved in the band is Fleetwood Mac.
Ah yes! Valerie's ultimatum is priceless.
@@cherylreichardt - I believe they've been divorced for some years now, so it looks like Valerie decided to get off the bus in the end.

Listen to the live recording. Then re-evaluate your statement
But he IS listening to the live concert recording. Dad is totally wrong
Larry - have Ethan listen to the album version to this and please consider reacting to the album version of Band on the Run
Scratchy or not (it isn't 🙂) his voice is now very weak but he is now in his 80s to be fair!
You need to check out Johnny B Goode by John Lennon playing with his hero, Chuck Berry.
Poor old Chuck doesn't have a clue what Yoko is about to add to his song and the look on his face when she screeches is a joy to behold 😁
Steven Tyler from Aerosmith says his raspy style and high notes in many songs like the end of Dude looks like a lady were influenced from Paul McCartney's raspyness at the end of Hey Jude. Sorry Larry...Ethan is right. You are tripping 😂. Lol. also a side note: the difference between a live performance and the studio version are the imperfections...otherwise bands would play to vocal tracks. Still love you Larry but dead wrong.
First! (for once)
Just wait until you put your clocks back...
first and once nice.
This fabulous song was from Paul's first solo LP, post-Beatles (titled McCartney), & you really should hear that version, as well as the whole album. Paul wrote the songs, did the vocals, and played EVERY instrument!!! Give it a listen. You'll be glad you did. I don't know exactly when the live version you watched was recorded, but my guess would be closer to 1990. Ethan was absolutely correct in citing Paul's age in regard to his voice. Don't forget, Paul was only 27 when the Beatles broke up in early 1970. (DOB 6-18-1942) Lots of wonderful songs in his post-Beatles catalogue (Maybe I'm Amazed is my favorite), but I do suggest you listen to the original hits first, then check out live versions. And listening to the original hit version of Maybe I'm Amazed is something that should definitely be on your ABSOLUTELY MUST HEAR list!!!!
You think this video was recorded in 1990!!?? You are WAY OFF! This video you just watched is part of the movie called "ROCKSHOW" which is one of his entire concerts that was from WINGS 1976 "WINGS OVER AMERICA TOUR" I SAW one of those concerts in May 1976 in Detroit. 1976 NOT 1990. Paul is 34 years old here!! It's only 6 years after the Beatles broke up!!
Yoko Ono is not that much worse that Band Maid or Nightwish, and you like them. Yoko Ono is not bad as long as she stays away from the dolphin noises.
Wow haha. Do you really think that? -Ethan
@@fatherandsonreactions walking On Thin Ice is a good song, and she did some good stuff on Double Fantasy.
@@calvinwboaz7085 I agree, I liked Yoko's songs on Double Fantasy and "Walking on Thin Ice"
Dad, I have to disagree. I saw this tour in 1976 and it was fantastic. Paul probably had a few cigarettes and a couple of joints. But he was fantastic. You’re to critical.
Please react to Paul McCartney & Wings - WILD LIFE (Live 1972) the vocals are even better than this one
I was at that concert in 1976 and I was playing with Paul's piano strings telling everyone it sounds like a harp. Paul seen what was going on and screamed at me for about 30 minutes. That could explain the raspy voice. sorry!
Paul is my least favourite Beatle, he tended to write love songs and they were usually just too sugary sweet for my taste. Despite that, Wings had some really good tunes I did like. I would recommend: C Moon (1972), Live And Let Die (for the 1973 James Bond film), Jet (1973), Band On The Run (1974), Getting Closer (1979).
Paul did not write JUST "love songs" John and George ALSO wrote love songs....geez
@@patticrichton1135 - I'm very careful with my words. I used "tended" and "usually" deliberately to try to avoid triggering the Beatles twitterati. Your reply was a totally straw man argument and completely unnecessary.
The father is so wrong.
Listening to the studio version will disabuse you of the notion that the song is intentionally raspy. (And you should definitely listen to the studio version.) McCartney's voice was raspy because of overuse on tour, clearly. In fact, after mangling the first high passage, he sang those sections an octave lower the next two times. He knew he couldn't hit the high notes that night.
Larry you are right, but Paul never really had a great voice, but he was really losing at this concert but take a look at this live version czcams.com/video/nqpo4sBtfqI/video.html his vocals are much better
You’re objectively wrong. Paul had one of the greatest voices in rock/pop history and that’s undeniable. He had a 4+ octave vocal range which is one of the highest of any singer in rock/pop
@@ewest14 here are some battles for you and you tell me who has the best voice, Paul vs Ian Gillan, Paul vs Robert Plant, Paul vs Roger Daltry, Paul vs Freddy Mercury, Paul vs Steve Windwood, Paul vs Paul Rogers, Paul vs John Fogerty, Paul vs Brian Johnson, Paul vs Bon Scott, Paul vs Gary Brooker, Paul vs Justin Hayward, Paul vs Rob Halford, Paul vs Gerry Rafferty in my book he would not win many of those contests, he is not a bad singer but not great either, what he does have is emotion and character in his voice, he is very listenable and has an interesting captivating voice whilst he has vocal range, he is noticeably flat at the low end, nasal in the midrange and breaks up at the higher end and he had no real power in his falsetto, other than that I think you're spot on.
