There are not bad TooL songs...there are moods.....Lateralus the album changed my life, changed how I viewed others, relationships, life choices, grudges, Pushing the envelope and being alive! And Lateralus is 23 years old....and still resonating
Yea man. Tool albums are pretty much designed to be listened to in one sitting. Each song is so dense though that you can still catch the feeling they are going for. It will probably raise your appreciation up another notch once you end up doing it. When I listened to Fear Inoculum (their last album in 2019) the whole way through I felt like I was drunk and/or high by the end of it. hadn’t had that extreme feeling from music in a long time.
This song exemplifies what true patience is. It is CHOOSING to remain KNOWING you may walk away. It also has a double meaning since Maynard's mother was paralyzed and a patient for much if his life.
I saw that you were pondering the sound at the start of the song, where you speculated it might be a 'talk box'. It's actually Justin Chancellor's bass, where he just twists the tonal knob on his bass to get the unusual effect.
I definitely suggest a full listen through when you get to that point!!! Especially the songs that flow into eachother ( youve heard Parabol and Parabola) but then Disposition into Reflection into Triad is an amazing musical ( mostly instrumental) journey!! I am so stoked to be on this Tool journey with you!! I think in the future, you should start checking out Deftones!!!
Once you’ve made it through the songs individually and got a feel for them, I’d recommend looking up the themes or general ideas of the songs. This album is a freaking spiritual awakening. Their first album, Undertow, covers addiction and abuse. In my opinion, their second album, Aenima, is about being out of the addiction and struggling to cope with the real world, dealing with what comes with it and not really liking much of it. It closes with the narrator’s third eye being pried open. Lateralus, their third album, opens with letting go of your grudges and accepting that we are all one, the death of the ego, and all that. It’s a really powerful discography instead of just one concept album.

The wah is actually the bass
Flying over from Ireland 🇮🇪 to Birmingham to see them in May. Saw them in Dublin in 2022 so can’t wait to see them again.

All Tool is perfection best believe❤
Love watching that grin come across your face at the beginning of a Tool song because you know it's going to be another banger. They all are 😅
This is one of my favorites off this album. 🤘🤘🤘
This song has my favorite drop of all tool tracks.
Theres also an interlude before the patient called "Eon Blue Apocalypse" which flows straight on.
You should definitely listen to Lateralus from start to finish!!
