    I don't get why so many people are upset with them using mercedes parts, it is the best idea they could have come up with. You can finally get the stunning looks and the high class feel of an Aston Martin, with the reliability of a Mercedes. And if something breaks it is easier and cheaper to repair.
    Also you have an enterteinmentsystem that hasn't been outdated for 10 years 😅
    And for the People saying it is an C-class motor that is the same engine as in the amg gts, which isn't that much cheaper at a high trimlevel than the db11...

      @Ocean-blvd. Před 2 lety +3

      I completely agree with this whole statement, except for the “reliability of a Mercedes” Mercedes as well as German cars are known for being luxurious, but extremely unreliable.

  • @richardthantzin1229

    What makes the Aston Martin DB11 Volante so good is that for a car design so visually appealing, the driver has the option to either drive conventional style with the roof closed or convertible style without the roof. That is what makes this car so attractive. And the car price is just slightly over US $200,000 which is reasonable and affordable for most people. Not everyone can afford to drive a high end, super expensive Bugatti which easily costs a few million dollars.

    • @jryalls
      @jryalls Před 6 lety +3

      Rémi ESTELLE Pillars are the vertical or near vertical supports of a car's window area designated respectively as the A, B, C
      If you’re looking at the car from the side.
      The A Pillar is for the front window.
      The B Pillar is behind the front door.
      And the C-Pillar is for the rear window
      It’s hard to explain without showing you. I would suggest googling the question.

  • @sgneher
    @sgneher Před 6 lety +11

    I never understood Aston Martin. The car weighs 3900 lbs, the transmission isnt bespoke, the engine is from another company, and this thing costs 6 figures. It doesnt make any sense. Its a beautiful car don't get me wrong but really.

    • @drive
      @drive  Před 6 lety +7

      Leave aside the weight -- it's a large luxury GT not a sports car, so its weight is part of the product positioning -- and the transmission -- most automakers use transmissions from other suppliers like ZF. What you're reacting to are the development compromises that go with Aston Martin's small size and independence. Most of its competitors are affiliated with larger automakers that have massive R&D operations. The standout is McLaren, which is larger and organized around F1 development. While Daimler has a 5% stake in Aston (note the AMG engines and electronics), Aston would never survive without strategic development partners. It doesn't mean the product isn't competitive, in fact, those compromises have made the current models MORE competitive than ever.

    • @sgneher
      @sgneher Před 6 lety +1

      I just don't understand it in the marketplace. Any 200k plus car should come close to a 10 second quarter mile or it isn't worth it. See Porsche 911 Turbo S, Lamborghini Huracan, Ferrari 488GTB, any of the Mclaren vehicles etc. To me the if I wanted a luxury GT car I would look at the I would look at the Jaguar F-type. The most expensive sets at $120-130k and isn't in the same category as a "supercar" so no one would expect it to compete in that class. And if I am not mistake the engine at least is developed/engineered in house.

    • @drive
      @drive  Před 6 lety +5

      I get your point, and it's a good one. I'd argue that judging a car based on its performance numbers is not the most sustainable proposition in the GT class, but it is a selling point to some buyers. And with that engine, it does seem like the DB11 V8 is a $220k+ car competing with $130k cars. That's a tricky situation, no doubt. From behind the wheel, the difference between this car and the Jaguar F-Type or AMG GT is significant in terms of comfort and roadability (for a 500-mile autobahn burn, I'd choose the Aston in a heartbeat). We'll see in the marketplace whether it's $100k+ more significant.

    • @gdacosta
      @gdacosta Před 6 lety +4

      Guess how has an engine from another company, an outdated (yet bespoke and made from another company) transmission, shity electronics, and costs 7 figures? Pagani's do, just because most of the metal is the same, doesn't mean it is the same experience, and experience is why buy a car better than a Dacia (that just do what is supposed to), this Aston is great, and having MB parts on it probably makes it a bit more reliable.

    • @LewisJackson88
      @LewisJackson88 Před 6 lety +2

      You're looking at Aston Martin all wrong with checking out it's performance figures. It's still very fast, but it's point is being a luxury grand tourer. It's the middle ground between an all-out sports car, and an all-out luxury car such as a Rolls-Royce or Bentley. Why would you spend more on a Rolex when you can get a Casio to do the same thing? It's all about desirability and Aston Martin's pedigree and expertise in this small segment of the motor industry is what warrants the price.

    • @drive

    • @kevintibbetts5249
      @kevintibbetts5249 Před 6 lety

      You don't believe it corners better due to better dampers, suspension components and stiffer chassis? I think it has less to do with crash test and safety regulations and alot more to do with engineers responding to market demand for better handling open top GT cars.

    • @kevintibbetts5249
      @kevintibbetts5249 Před 6 lety

      I'm only asking because you are the expert, so what you say is pretty much what it is and I'm very interested in the topic. You have a wealth of knowledge and I respect the incredible channel you have made for us

    • @drive
      @drive  Před 6 lety

      Don't amplify one point into infinity. In context of convertibles in the past, the Volante has less twist and scuttle shake as a direct result of a stiffer chassis. One of the reasons for that stiffer chassis is the greater structural integrity that went along with crash-test ratings and regulations. The major point is that chassis engineers who start with a more rigid body structure end up with better wheel location, and drivers get a more responsive drive when body flex doesn't act as a damper.
