- Full Review of Aston’s New DB11 V8, in Volante Drop Top guise! The DB11 is the first product of ‘Second Century’ plan.
This car is all NEW: GONE is the ‘VH’ platform, the car is now built upon a new bonded aluminium platform, lighter and stronger: but most importantly now Aston are in a technical Partnership with Mercedes Benz, and now have their hands on the EPIC 4.0 V8 BiTurbo from the AMG GT!!
And this V8 Volante version brings big sound, and drama to the already brilliant DB11 formula! The Coupé V8 is said to be “a refined and comfortable GT with a more sporting bias”: so let’s see if the Drop Top can maintain this dynamism!
Finished in Ultramarine Black and Blue leather, it’s a different exterior design particularly in the rear: so we’ll also explore these changes to the Coupé.

Hello @Remove Before Race, I have a technical/engineer question. How come Austin Martin never fitted a Targa Top, or Sunroof to their DB's?
I have had my DB11 Volante for coming up to a month now....it is just amazing.

In my opinion, This car is one of the most beautiful cars in history.
The editing in your videos, the drone footage, the clever phasing between body types and wheel options, even the graphics when changing from sport mode etc - so far beyond what anyone else is doing, and makes your reviews so well explained and informative, and above all engaging. And all that on top of the excellent spoken content and delivery. I'm raiding the back of the sofa for my DB11 fund as we speak...
Raz, I am a long term car enthusiast, started watching many channels and eventually got bored with most. Happened to come across your channel a few days ago and couldn't help binge watching. I don't know what it is (besides obviously the "Harry Potter" style editing you effortlessly pull of) but as a car reviewer: you became my number one in a flash. loved the review so much I went and bought one. Fabulous car to drive and yes the review was accurate when saying volante (which I bought) does not vary from coupe or have any of the usual issues that chopping the roof off can cause

Amazing review... great style. I agree with the wheels. They also make the car look more compact and aggressive. Can you share your thoughts on differences between this Aston and the Mercedes GTC roadster? Here in Australia the base Aston v8 Volante is priced 60k more base GTC roadster.

I was watching S 63 amg coupe, then this was shown in the list. Almost broke the telephone screen pressing play on this. This goes to show you the difference in my book, between Merc and A.M.
Again, as anticipated, a thoroughly engaging review from RBR. Truly a cut above..
Also a cut above is the design ethos that Aston Martin are moving forward with. I'm very much loving this platform and for absolutely the first time ever, for me personally, I'm actually attracted to the Volante - and even having conversations in my head about how good it would be. An absolute first, for me!
My default position will, however, undountedly prevail; coupe. And in part that's because I'm a little stuck between DB11 (V8) and the new Vantage. I know it's a marmite thing, but I do love the interior cockpit of the Vantage.

I as well look at these 2 models, Vantage seems big fun and beautiful, but this Volante has sooo much style. I drive a McLaren spider an I am looking at something to replace it... not soo much fan of driving without roof soo that is not a must.
What is your view on these cars?

Question: if you're going 25 mph, you activate the roof (up or down), then hit the gas above 30 on up, does the roof stop or reverse?
It doesn't let you accelerate during that phase
Would have preferred a lighter interior to go with the deep blue paint.

Agreed. I think something like a cognac brown interior would go well with the dark midnight blue exterior.

Can you have it full volume exhaust but GT (softest) suspension setting? That would be ideal. Wonder if you could disable the exhaust valves either via fuse or disconnecting and plugging a vacuum line.
What a gorgeous spec, whoever spec'd that knows their shit. I would just potentially alter exterior slightly.

Thoughts on the nav screen? It’s the only part I truly dislike about the interior. Looks like a kids etch-a-sketch has been glued on. 😱

"makes one of the best exhaust notes on the market right now" - really says more about the market than the exhaust note.. Turbos have killed most good sounding cars, taken the edge off of them, dulled them down. Yes they might perform higher peak numbers and better emissions, but man nothing beats an NA engine in sound. Take the old DBS (based on DB9). No other Aston since then have been able to capture that raw exhilarating note. In my opinion, this new V8 twin turbo sounds like it's out of breath before it even opens up. At least when it comes to its sound. Great review though, and I think you captured the more classical stylish profile of the volante very well, it's completely differen roofline and shoulder line interaction sets it apart from the coupe version.

The noise it makes sounds like the the baffles in the exhaust have gone.The car looks typical of today’s design but is very attractive.I absolutely hate the interior the same shape central console and that really dated screen that is so tied.I love my Bentley GTC interior.I owned a DB4 Volante a DB5 and a DB6 and a DBS and the original Vararge all around the 60s 70s and the 90s It’s a great shame that the name has become a license for other companies to play with.It seems today that as long as it makes a lot of noise people find that appealing.Some sound is great but the loud sound is for the brash.I don’t remember the real original Astons making that much noise.
