      I hear you. I've been a woodworker for 25 years now. I run my own small workshop making windows & doors and sometimes furniture. I always give my potential customers a detailed estimate, always deliver on time as agreed upon, and never cheat on the price. I've never had a complaint, on the contrary ; the only 'marketing' I need is satisfied customers' recommendations. I take pride in my craft and that shows in the finished product. Some of the stuff I make can last for hundreds of years if properly maintained. I am my own man, I don't owe anyone anything. I have a good life.

    When Peterson says "chaos," in my opinion, he uses the term loosely to roughly mean degeneracy or lack of order that leads to allowing entropy to dominate and give rise to suffering. He imagines in chaos an undifferentiated sameness which would be the result of diffusion. In systems thinking, which he comes very close to alluding but doesn't have the numeracy to delve into, chaos or chaotic-ness specifically means extreme sensitivity to initial conditions. Chaotic systems are not disorderly per se. If all the parameters of their action were known, they would be perfectly understood and predictable as the deterministic systems that they are. It is just that, seen from the outside, their workings are near impossible to infer. Thus, chaos, as a concept, is in fact closer to complexity than a lack of complexity the sameness of diffuse states would imply. I think the reason he prefers to use the term chaos in preference to the more accurate term disorder is because the word chaos is used in mythology; and the idea that disorder is worse than order would be a hard sell because much of what Peterson abhors was done in the name of das Ordnung in the previous century.

    "A psychopath has to keep moving from place to place, because once he reveals himself as deceitful and untrustworthy, he has to go find new suckers to fleece." - Peterson
    But what if a psychopath is high in intelligence and well-educated and therefore is able to figure out how to get people en masse so confused that they overlook and ignore the clues to their nature? What if there are psychopaths as smart as Dr. Peterson, and he hasn't noticed them yet?

      Emi Lion There’s a lot of truth to what you said. A good person can start out in business and get lucky and succeed and make a lot of money and do well simply because they were lucky. What’s so sad is the higher they go or the better they do the more haters they attract and the more abuse they’re subjected to. A lot of people have never dealt with smear campaign‘s and projection and gaslighting so even though they were successful this hideous treatment comes as such a shock that it can actually take a successful person down and bring them to their knees and destroy everything they’ve worked for. More needs to be done to educate people on abusers and their tactics and how they will destroy others who they feel like they are beneath them for whatever reason.

    From what I’ve seen..empathy and emotion are weaknesses..subconsciously we seek out people like this for leadership “psychopathic” or not. A Lack of fear is what gets you to the top.

    • @roozbehbadii7518
      @roozbehbadii7518 Před 4 lety +7

      That’s nonsense. The lack of fear creates impulsivity. The lack of fear might impulsively get you to the top. But it won’t keep you at the top. People who have studied psychopath in detail know that the Achilles heal of psychopathy is impulsivity. Most of the time, you can absolutely nail them to the wAll if you set a trap for them. Even if they know it’s a trap, their arrogance and impulsivity will make them go for it and they get nailed. I have taken 3 psychopaths down in my career. I have used their impulsivity and arrogance against them. Empathy and emotion are not weaknesses. Once the people around you know that they will benefit from your character of generosity and loving nature, they will put you in a position of authority because they know your character will reward them and in turn they will reward you financially for your character.
      Everyone should have fear. FeAr is a tool nature has given us to survive threats. Consequently, if you have pathologically have no fear, you will do impulsive and arrogant things that will put you at risk of getting nailed. And you will ultimately get nailed.
      I agree that you should manage your fear. You should fear only god and the universe. Because the metaphysical laws of the universe will return to you what you put out. “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”. That’s gods law described by Newton and written in the fabric of existence. Even if you get away with criminal behavior, that law dictates that there is a heaven and hell and you will get your butt roasted on firey lava.
      Lacking fear is stupid. Confidence in your abilities and consciousness of your weaknesses is what matters in the long. Having fear and ability of manage fear will determine long lasting success.
      The honeybadger is listed in the Guinness book of world records as the most fearless animal on earth. But it’s fearless against snakes because he knows he is physically immune to their poison. So it attacks the snakes. The honeybadger does not initiate an attack against the elephant because it is intelligence and knows he can get stumped to death. The honeybadger does not initiate an attack against a lion or a leopard because it knows it will get chewed to death. They only fight to save their young or to flee from the pack of lions. When there is lack of food, they then initiate a fight against a larger animal because they will either die of starvation or die of being bitten by a lion. Starvation will surely kill them 100% of the time. But in a fight against a lion, they still have a small chance of success. Thus, they have to MANAGE their fear because they are forced to fight and have to fight.

    • @immanuelcunt7296
      @immanuelcunt7296 Před 2 lety +1

      Absolutely not. Empathy and emotion are not weaknesses.
      You literally can not exist without emotions, because emotions form our motivations. Humans make goals because pursuing and achieving those goals makes you happy. That is emotion.
      There is no reason to be successful without emotions, there is no motivation to lead or go to the top without emotions.
      Now, negative emotions can be a hindrance, but that doesn't matter. They can be a great help if you use them right. And people who are brave and capable of controlling their negative emotions are not psychopathic.

    I have in the past considered my self conservative and still do, but laws don't stop crime, honest, honorable, self respecting people do and don't commit crimes, and not because a law say's so. There are plenty of arbitrary laws just to make people break them as a system of control from one group over another. Most people I'm in contact with want something, they treat me with respect, and will gladly pay me for my services on a voluntary basis and I reciprocate, not by force, not by manipulation, that is the type of world I and most others live in. However, when I see government I see a group of people forcing others to pay them for their service by force , coercion, manipulation and violence, they are unscrupulous people appearing sociopathic in nature, and a ruling class, yet they have convinced the majority that they are necessary and people accept them as rulers over their lives because that's the way it's always been. If we applied the same standard to government we apply to ourselves then they wouldn't be needed and we would work toward bettering our own lives by helping our neighbors at them same time , but in order for that to happen people have to stop sending their children to government brainwashing centers for education and take responsibility for their own future. Life is to short to be forced to live it under someone else's limiting control, so long as you harm no one or their property you should be able to live as you please, but if you do harm someone take responsibility for it and make it right.

    I think Jordan is missing a major point and distorting a very important goal of societal progress, which is to bring as much equality to a child's life as possible, then let them gain from there contributions or service. The fact is that there are children who are born into extremely dysfunctional families and if they have never received the right type of guidance or lessons; which often can only come from parents; they are left a mess and as a cost to society. By only judging them you will not solve the problem, but rehabilitation may be a good thing for them and society... which obviously costs more the later it is done.

      I think when he suggested to try different hierarchies, he could have added, "and use those to at least keep you alive and build your character while you try to start a new one, if you are creative." At least that's one possible idea.
      I do think Peterson makes some good points about entitlement in other videos. We think THIS is slavery? Well maybe it is, but a big component of that is inside us. There is a difference between someone who is an ignorant slave to that system and someone who is aware of what's going on and takes advantage of the tests it provides to develop inner strength. That doesn't mean you opt-in to its evils. But part of the problem is that you don't opt-in in the first place, you grow up in it and it becomes a part of you more than you think.
      In real slavery escaping is no simple matter, you can't just opt-out. So you pay attention, get smart, and guard your soul. Then maybe you can do something. Or at least that's my thinking.

      To really talk to each other and try to avoid heading toward annihilation indicates meaning and sense of value in that course of action. Otherwise it would be a meaningless conversation, and any outcome would be equally fine. How are you using the terms "meaning" and "natural"? By one definition, I would say that part of our issue is that many or most people are already doing what is "natural" for them - that which is effortless. Or are you using a definition of "natural" that suggests people would have to work in some way? Such as "serving nature" or a "natural state"?
      I understand if it seems like I'm nitpicking words. As far as I've seen most discussions get nowhere, though, unless people are very careful to make sure that they are using the same definitions, or at least understand each other's definitions.

      _"resource base economy"_
      So... cash? The heck do you think we've got already? Money is literally a holdover value which is equalized across goods and services. This piece of resource is worth this or that much. Said amount can be traded back and forth or kept in spare for future use. It's like bartering, but you can hold onto a tertiary something for long periods of time.
      You _literally_ exchange resources when you hand over money to someone over _anything_.

    Mr. Peterson has obviously never come across the works of his great compatriot, Alan Watt from CuttingThroughTheMatrix.com
    or never read e.g. the groundbreaking book "The political Ponerology" by Polish psychiatrist, Andrzej Łobaczewski, PhD.
    In terms of politics, Mr. Peterson, they all do tend to be psychopats, alas.

    Ugh, is it just me or does this guy get more intense, aggressive and angry as he gets older? His more recent talks are so much harder to listen to than the older material because it's just so hostile and aggressive. Most of this rant doesn't even hold water. You can still have healthy and functioning societies with hierarchies of competence but which are also more egalitarian - the two things are not mutually exclusive. One only has to look at Scandinavian societies, which are highly egalitarian and socialist, they outperform all other countries on social indicators of health and well being. Statistics show time and time again they are better societies to live in than the ones that embody savage individualistic and capitalistic ideals. Improving quality of life and equality for all does serve the highest benefit to the society.

    But I thought you said happiness makes you stupid?
    "None of this egalitarian equity (did you mean equality?) is not good for anyone, first of all it's impossible, 2nd it would be murderous to impose, but third even if it succeeded it would fail..."
    This is as incoherent as a fundie Christian or Islamist sermon. What are you even talking about?
    "Equality" is about civil rights. My freedom to swing my fist ends before it causes you unnecessary harm (and "fist" can be figurative here). This isn't something that can be imposed. It is the result of eliminating abuse.
    Hierarchies are inefficient. A distributed network is the solution. Looks like you recognize this with some of the bits about borders. Hmm...

    • @antydsr
      @antydsr Před 7 lety +3

      Equity = equality of outcome - in contrast to equality of opportunity. He said what he meant to say. So your comment (conclusion) is incorrect as you assumed he meant 'equality'.

    • @thejackanapes5866
      @thejackanapes5866 Před 7 lety +3

      Seems to me - since he paired "equity" with "egalitarianism" he means the property of _fairness_
      These people don't want to play fair. It's that simple. It's some kind of insidious marriage of the worst of Ayn Rand's political and social philosophy with the more sinister varieties of Judeo-Christian modernity.
      I got mine, fuck everybody else. My freedom to swing my fist and kill you with it is fine - because I can do it and maybe you're too weak to stop me. Making this illegal is imposing restrictions on my natural freedom.
      My freedom to trap you into financial servitude...
      My freedom to deceive you - if you're dumb enough to trust me, you deserve it...
      Might makes right. Argumentum ad baculum. It's naturally this way so it should be. Bla bla bla, heard all these rationalizations ad nauseum.
      The right is as bad as the left. No one's fooling me here.

    • @antydsr
      @antydsr Před 7 lety +1

      Imposing fairness through equity trumps idea of hierarchies - they are not needed then. Why bother trying to better yourself, to try and achieve something when someone else will get the same reward as you without trying?
      Different topic is that there are many, many hierarchies, and not all of them are 'good'... You can aim to be the worst person around - and the same rules apply here. You can achieve success in that.
      In my opinion in regards to social interactions and coping with other fellow men there is no better model than hierarchies model.

    • @cliftut
      @cliftut Před 7 lety

      Hierarchies are not always inefficient, but it seems to me that networks are just as ubiquitous in nature as hierarchies, in fact I suspect all hierarchies are embedded within networks on some level of analysis. Peterson obviously knows that everything is connected, and it seems like dialogue is an example in a sense of a non-hierarchal interaction or relationship. I'd like to see Peterson explore the concept of networks, as it seems incomplete to deal with things only in terms of hierarchies.
