    _Locke and Key_ is one of my favorite graphic novel series. Joe Hill really is following in his father's foot steps.

    You made all of these sounds so amazing. I've only heard of Locke and Key, and Wytches. I'm in a weird place with graphic novels where I just haven't been enjoying the format. I'd like to try all of these out since you made them sound so appealing, but I'm partly afraid that I'm too easily creeped out for some of them!

    • @ImpressionBlend
      @ImpressionBlend  Před 8 lety

      +Between Chapters They're definitely all within the horror genre, so the creep factor is real. The difficult thing about horror is that we all get creeped out by different things, so it's kind of hard to predict what's going to have the biggest effect. What are things that you're totally NOT ok with? Or can deal with?

    Yea so, I've read all these and you're analysis of all of them is spot on. I love all these series and honestly, I have a hard to finding series that are similar. Which is weird, because comic book readers love the horror genre, but it's so difficult to get right. One that I need to get my hands on is 30 Days of Night, which has the same artist as Ten Grand (one of my absolute favorite comic series, which you ALSO need to read). It's supposed to be super creepy and the obviously the art is going to be amazing. I already told you this, but you should check out Swamp Thing and Severed (both written by Scott Snyder).

    • @ImpressionBlend
      @ImpressionBlend  Před 8 lety

      +Lindsay Weimer It's so strange that good horror comics are hard to find! You would think this would be a popular thing, and there would be a lot to pick from, but apparently not. I need 30 Days of Night as well - I've heard a lot of good things. And ALL the things by Scott Snyder, of course :)

    Interesting picks. A Snyder horror comic I really enjoy is Severed. Good companion piece to Wytches imo. It's a period piece set in 1912 with beautiful painted art. The villain, The Salesman, has a penchant for eating little kids haha. My favorite horror comic is Rachel Rising by the great Terry Moore. Lush black and white artwork. A woman wakes up from the dead and the mystery ensues about how exactly she died. A good witch story as well. Happy reading!

    No, I've not read any of those comics, but some sound pretty good and sound like they might make an interesting TV series or limited series, if they'd capture them right. I'm sort of tired of super hero comics, and the TV series just doesn't cut the mustard for me either (Green Arrow, The Flash, etc.). Since I don't read many comics these days, I can't recommend much there, but I am reading a novel, Swan Song, which is a post apocalypse type novel with so far, not too many characters, but has been a great read. The author, McCammon, has a pretty easy to read style.

      +Impression Blend one shot "Cut" is an interesting read...not particularly long story, but has a nice touch + no sparkly vamps for sure xD
      and thanks for the video.
      Sad that you haven't mentioned Sandman here...may be not exactly horror, but the graphic trippy part and some stories make it worth reading (and some parts are really creepy)...
      And about witches:
      Coffin Hill - nice art, interesting characters (flashbacks included :) ), pretty nice way to tell the story (like when the author doesn't show you all the things and gives you some bits and pieces and you have to figure out some parts yourself)

    I love these recommendations, they are great, I'm glad you enjoy comics/graphic novels as well :) , my personal favourites are "Girls", and "Morning Glories" they are both well written and the art style really plays into the way the stories use horror elements, if you haven't read them before, consider checking them out :D

      +Impression Blend I haven't finished "Girls" yet, but from what I've read so far it seems more along the lines of a psychological horror, morning glories has been described as the "Lost" of graphic novels and it's superb, from the character building to the complex storylines and creepy settings :D I seriously recommend them

    I saw the first 3 episodes of "Scream Queens" and I was not scared once. Either I'm the man without fear or they forgot the horror in horror comedy. Emma Roberts was great though. As a Neil Gaiman fan, I suggest you read "Sandman vol 2: The Doll's House", about a convention for serial killers. In comics, Gaiman is famous for "Sandman", and this story is his breakout hit.

    • @ImpressionBlend
      @ImpressionBlend  Před 8 lety

      +Chester H I don't think Scream Queens is meant to be scary, mostly just funny in an over-the-top kind of way. Though I did think it was going to be a bit more horror. Maybe they'll get to it eventually? Really looking forward to reading Sandman.

    I have been catching up on The Goon by Eric Powell, since Dark Horse started releasing the oversized Library Editions. It can only be described as a grab bag of horror/supernatural elements with a tongue in cheek/knife in the eye brand of humor and violence throughout. Definitely, Mature Readers only.
