I'm too much of a completionist to start getting into Marvel or DC comics, because I'd have to start at the beginning and read everything in order. But I have found a few non-super-hero graphic novels that I've really enjoyed. Saga is one of them! I also read Locke & Key and strongly, strongly recommend it. Fantastic story, great art.
Yea there are so many editions when it comes to Marvel and DC! Saga is great though! I watched Locke and Key and it was decent!
DC is definitely to go if what you want is non-mainstream stories. They've made a lot of such things since the DC Vertigo's era.
Marvel has made some too despite not as much as DC has, Ed Brubaker's criminals for instance.

Its great! I've been recommended Monstress by a lot of people and I just got it so I will let you know if that one is good too!
Frist graphic novel I ever read was Maus, and I instantly fell in love with the medium. For a while I gravitated towards autobiographies (Fun House, Persepolis I and II), but after reading Watchman and starting Hellboy I've started to get more into superhero content. I'm reading allstar superman right now and I love it!

Paper Girls is from the same writer, and it has time travel. I love that series so much too!
I don’t really read DC or Marvel superhero comics, but it makes me so happy that so many are on your favorites.
Another comic series I’m loving lately is Something is Killing the Children. If you’re okay with blood and gore, I would suggest checking it out.
I've never read Saga, but I did really enjoy reading Paper Girls. It's just such a great concept .

I just starting reading graphic novel. I seriously don't know why I didn't start years ago. I just finished Heart Stopper #1, need to pick up the rest SOON!. Also if you liked Heart Stopper, you will probably like Check, Please. Only two books in the series, a fantastic story. Thanks for the suggestions. I will be picking some of them up.

Subscribed! Fight club 2 felt like it veered too far from being a psychological story, which imo sucks if compared to the original, but still a great pick. Have you tried watchmen yet? I was surprised you didn't have it on your list. Great video man! keep em coming

I am starting to pick up graphic novels/manga/comics. Nana volume 1 is on backorder and I just received volume 1 of Paper Girls. The one you suggested, Rapture, I am ordering tomorrow.
Not sure if the Omnibuses of The Walking Dead counts, but I have the first 3 and planning to get the fourth some time this year.
When I was younger I used to read the Sunday comics and would borrow from the library Garfield and Calvin & Hobbes books. I do have at least two Calvin & Hobbes books and I think two of The Simpsons Treehouse of Terror books. I may still have a few Sailor Moon manga.
They are good palette cleansers as are middle grade for me anyways.

I never got into the Walking Dead ones but have always wanted to try! I really liked the show. Calvin and Hobbes was the best! I loved reading those when I was younger 😊.
Have no idea if you'll see this but check out swamp thing saga. It's amazing it made me fall in love with a hero I didn't even know anything about. Swamp thing became my all time fav. It's really a story about understanding what you really are and coming to terms with it for the better. (I'd recommend getting the version with the original art but both are top notch)

👍 When I was getting a master's degree one of the classes I took was all on graphic novels. Another reason I took that class was because I knew I always had to buy a lot of books and this way my son could read them too when he was younger. He was probably about 14 at the time and he could read anything from any of my classes and often did. He started reading Lord of the Rings when he was in second grade. I really enjoyed the graphic novels and off the top of my head I can remember two. I'll have to ask him if he remembers any others. The first that came to mind was a really good one and my son liked it a lot too. The name of it is Maus. And, Watchmen was one of the graphic novels on the required reading list. Taking that class made me feel more confident in my personal view that all books are important and have meaning. Just because there's a lot of pictures involved doesn't mean they're any less of a book. Stories can be told by a written word or by a pictorial expression like cave art or other things. To me, all are important and have meaning just like all people are important. I started reading books to my son when he was 4 months old. I personally have always liked lots of pictures because you can look at them and think longer on the words you've read and it sparks imagination. I don't feel you have to apologize for reading graphic novels or label it in a certain way. 🙂 Thank you for these suggestions.
I've had many people recommend Maus to me! I will have to try and get my hands on a copy. I read Watchmen when I was in high school and remember really liking it. I 100% agree that books can be told in a visual format as well 😊. No problem!
I just started the Batman Knightfall series and now I wanna pick up Deadpool and Saga!
I have the first volume of that series! I like it because you get some backstory into Bane 😊
Have you dabbled in manga at all? I feel like you’d really like Planetes by Mokoto Yukimura. Best two volumes of sci fi manga I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
I've only read a little bit of horror manga but that sounds awesome so I will have to check it out!

What is a good place to pick up these books? Buying books can be really expensive, especially for a teen. I don't want to have run down copies from ebay, although used books are always an option if they are not ruined. Any ideas?
I try and check local used bookstores first but if I can't find anything there, I check Second Sale. They sell used books online and usually have them in great condition but they will mark it with the condition it will be in. nightcrawler has always been my favorite marvel character. the 90s and early 2000s cartoons made me a fan. plus he's so hot lol. movies have yet adapt him correctly, he's always an after thought. Disney don't disappoint me 🥺🥺🥺

Persepolis is amazing! Back in high school we had to read the first one for class. I loved it so much though that I went to Barnes and Noble and bought Persepolis II the day I finished it.
If you like historical autobiographies told in the same format then I recommend Maus. It's about the Holocaust with Jews portrayed as mice and Germans as cats. That might sound weird and maybe even a little disrespectful potentially but I promise it's amazing.

Well, I was watching and then he said "Sega" and even titled that portion of the video "Sega".... Its "Saga"... It LITERALLY is spelled SAGA NOT SEGA. You can see the letters on the title are S-A-G-A, not "Sega" which is how you pronounced it and misspelled it. Why in the world would I take literary advice and/or recommendations from someone that can't spell the title of the novel they are promoting?
Hmmm didn't think that an angry person on the internet complaining that I call a book SAGA as in "S-a-y-g-u-h" not Sega would be on my bingo board for 2023 but here we are. Also where am I spelling it?? Never said I was giving literary advice. I'm just sharing a list of graphic novels I love. Anyways, its cool to know that the way I say a word has this much power to make someone that angry that they go on a rant about it 😊
I can’t believe I still haven’t seen Captain America: Civil War, but it’s on my watch list. And the comics sound really interesting.
They are really good! More events happen in the comic books but yea the movie is still really good too!
I like sandman and Alan moore Swamp thing.
The writing is metaphorical and poetic and the stories are cool not cliché
