Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac - "Oh Well", Live@ Music Mash 1969
Vložit

- Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac throwing it down on the BBC's Monster Music Mash in 1969. With a little more work, I think this could have been at least as recognizable of a blues-rock hit as Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog".
- Hry
This riff is so badass. I can't even begin to capture it in words.
Was a fine effort though 👍
its...no words...
black dog? naaah.... this THIS is THE riff of riffs!
All time super the very best 👌
Buckingham did it very well too. ;-)
Said by others who actually knew him, Peter Green was so self-effacing he named his band after his friends, drummer and bassist Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. The only guitarist to give B.B. King the cold sweats. Fantastic guitarist who will be greatly missed.
Hi,how are you?
Classic blues/rock.
He named it that because he knew he wasn’t going to be in the band long.
Although at some of their initial gigs they were billed as "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, also featuring Jeremy Spencer." You can see why they shortened it later...
Exactly. So not really self-effacing.
This song is so fantastic it is just beyond. The rhythm, lightness, humour, joy. Beyond words.
Peter seemed so relaxed and happy at this point in his life.
What happened barely a year later was perhaps one of THE greatest tragedies in Blues or Rock history.
RIP, Peter Green - one of the VERY best.
What happened a year later? Him leaving the band?
@@higher_media He basically lost his grip on relative sanity, and virtually all his creativity and musical genius, following what was reported to be a acid-fuelled literal “lost weekend” in Germany.
His friends - including McVie, Fleetwood and Kirwan -barely recognised the old Peter from that moment on, he gave away almost everything he owned - including his favourite Les Paul - and drifted into total musical and emotional obscurity.
@@mikegray8776 Tf? Really? I hope Peter Green was at least fairly happy doing that. Ive quit doing music for a while only because I was too depressed to do it. I hope that wasnt the case with him.
@@mikegray8776 tbh yeah it's blind luck that that LP went to someone responsible, and capable of doing it justice - it could just as easily have disappeared into obscurity
@@levipartridge2790 I think he already knew that Gary Moore had a pretty sparkling future ahead of him - even though he had yet to make any great impact at all at that point.
One of the greatest lines ever! "Don't ask what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to." Brilliant. R.I.P. Peter.
Amen. ✌💖⚘⚘🎶
Yep.
@Jarrod Procell
Ah... wrong thread? Wrong, period? The only similarity I can see is both play(ed) for British/English groups. 😊

Peter kept perfect time although the drummer fucked up, what a pro, and a tragic destiny.. R. I. P Peter green
He’s giggling because he came back in singing in a different key.
What a joy to watch Peter Green play this. Total stage and song mastery. And Danny Kirwan doing the solos.
Yeah man Danny was amazing. Never got the credit he was due
Mi K Fleetwood, is the only survivor?
Imagine playing guitar in a group with Peter Green and you get to play the lead break. And you play it superbly just like Danny Kirwan does.
Love Future Games and Bare Trees🎸
He never gets the credit he deserves
Peter & Danny:
In the skies,it could be heaven!
Thank you for mentioning Danny.
Danny was my fave.
RIP to a legend of British blues rock.

The REAL Fleetwood Mac❤
Not just a great guitarist but an very underrated singer.
The guitar on this leaves the greatest impression.
Fabulous riff, and Danny Kirwan's lead work adds perfectly to the magic
That brilliantly fluffed transition with the congas made Peter laugh so wonderfully, have always loved that moment in this clip!
I was probably 17 first time I heard this in 69 on the only FM underground rock radio station in Dallas at that time. Opened my head to British blues rock, along with Cream, Savoy Brown, Alexis Korner, John Mayal etc. And jazz from Georgie Fame.
Underground radio in Dallas. KNUS....the news under the hour. Loved Tim Brandon.l...Dallas is the best;
You about my age then and I saw Fleetwood at that time and a couple of years later I thing John Mayal which at the time had Eric Clapton in there before he left and formed his own band Derek and the Dominoes.
IF ANYONE READS THIS please take away one thing. It’s Danny Kirwan playing lead guitar. The most underrated and under appreciated (even by his own band) guitarist that ever lived. Please look him up, listen to his music. I say this because his story is the most tragic story of Fleetwood Mac. He sadly never overcame his demons like Peter managed to.
Yes, and, unfortunately, he has been largely forgotten about. At least, his music could have been promoted more.
Yes - camera people weren't always so bright back then.
I don't think the band underappreciated him, Christine always spoke well of him. Technically all of the originals have been forgotten by the Nick's Buckingham fans. Kirwan was however very problematic, Green had trouble with him as did the rest, hence why he was booted out after that episode of refusing to play on a show just to prove a point. Hell he was so mentally unstable he lived in the streets during the 80s and died in a homeless shelter. His three solo albums are really good tho. Hell all of the Spencer, Green and Kirwan solo stuff is great tbh.
There are 3 lead guitar players on stage but only 2 play and both Kirwan and Green swapped lead parts often and on this song they mirror each others playing in parts.
one of the most badass riffs in music history!
Absolutely
RIP Peter Green. I saw him with Fleetwood Mac in the late 60s when he was at the top of his game. A brilliant guitarist, songwriter and vocalist. What came later was such a tragedy. Still, he left us with some superlative music. One of the best.
You are so lucky.. I wish I'd have been around to see them then 🖤
@@la_bart Thanks Laura. I saw them at about the time of this film clip. Even then ( with hindsight) you could see Peter Green was stepping back from the limelight. He stood at the back and let Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan appear more as as front men.
@@chrismorris6585 the story of Danny Kirwan is the Fleetwood Mac’s most tragic.
I can't live without Mayall clapton/Green Fleetwood mac/mayall. The Mayall years for both guitarists were sensational. Best in Brit blues

Same...kinda. I have heard Peter Green's name thrown around a lot, but I haven't really looked him up till now. He is absolutely fantastic.
You’ve also just witnessed Danny Kirwan too. Look him up. His story is more tragic than Peters
That's so strange I found out about him two days ago as well and it's been 10 year's since your comment
Well Lyndsey Buckingham was the last guitar/singer guy that led the band Do you know of him?Stevie Nicks?Bob Welsh?

Dear old Danny was doing the heavy lifting here, God bless him.
I think they had a fall out in later years.
Not really Green gave him the lead part mainly but mirrors him note for note in a lot of it.
The one and only REAL Fleetwood Mac. RIP Peter, you're a legend.

Boy were we the lucky generation or what?! Being a teenager and all the wonderful music that came in the late 60's early 70's like Mr Green.....
Peter Green, quite obviously a pure genius, but you have to hand it to the great Danny Kirwan here too, they both make this track sound so flipping good !!
Danny deserves a LOT more credit and respect than is given.❤
I was going to ask if that was Danny or Jeremy
Thank you.
Danny Kirwan may not be remembered how I would like but he certainly is by me and I listen and enjoy his playing all the time
Yes, I love Danny's guitar work and several of his compositions as well!

Kirwan and Green knew they had something good. Their rivalry drove them to be the best, even if it made them lock horns and just hate each other, which is a shame, given the high-quality sound their dual guitar riffs produced. This sound defines Fleetwood Mac for me. Thanks for posting!
Kirwan and Green didn't hate each other, as far as I know. But if you were talking about Kirwan and Bob Welch, it would be understandable.
@@rabootocoelhinho5698 Kirwan and Green had a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for each other. They apparently had bitter disagreements at times, but always managed to produce magic. @Bob Funny. your intuition isn't great. I have been playing guitar and singing in bands since I was 15, only 40 years! The key thing is that the musician must serve the song. Gary himself acknowledged that he had been overplaying after still got the blues and actually dialled it back on his later recordings. Taste over flash. Still got the blues was effectively a reworking of Parisienne walkways. I am not knocking GM, after Rory Gallagher he is one of the best irish guitarists. Still prefer Jake Burns though!
