  • This is part of Rebel Wisdom's series on Collective Intelligence, see the intro film for more: • Collective Intelligenc...
    The growing complexity of the world is such that no single mind can hope to comprehend it - so we need to find a form of collective intelligence.
    Twenty years ago, Guy Sengstock spontaneously invented a practice that came to be known as Circling. He describes it as a "yoga of deep transformational conversations".
    In this conversation with Rebel Wisdom's David Fuller, they explore the emergent conversation that Rebel Wisdom has been tracking, and how this practice of Circling applies to it.

    I listened to the first half hour and still do not get what Circles are
    Found the webinar on the circle institute website in the description "The seven stages of cycling" and I am finding it much more understandable.
    In case anyone else is in the same boat as me
    I would post the URL but CZcams would treat this comment as spam (silly technology)

      I glad someone else sees it how I do. I've wondered what circling is since I watched Audrey Marcus talk to him, that was interesting but I didn't learn what Circling was either! Can you write the name of the video you found useful?

    'Naming it' brings the unconscious to conscious awareness. Important also in context of psychodynamic therapy. 'Bringing it into the room', into the 'shared space' . What is named can then become part of 'The 3rd' . (The emerging/emergent Spirit ? )

  • @marcpontin2042
    @marcpontin2042 Před 4 lety +1

    The enquiry into the significance of naming what is present is interesting. For me, to name something is to 'disembed' from it. To become disidentified with it. To make subject object. To cease to look 'through it' and be able to look 'at it'. (Kegan). It is at the heart of insight meditation. One of the most powerful vipassana techniques is Mahasi Sayadaws noting practice which explicitly implements naming to radically awaken new levels of consciousness.

    Rebel Wisdom is proving very helpful for these times. Blending journalistic reporting on the emergent intellectual landscape with a bee like cross fertilization of those ideas by third person journalistic probing!

    Ohh, you're involved in the Diamond Approach. Almaas is the whole reason I became a therapist.
    It's great that's another take on authentic relating as a path. There's a lot popping up out there: Dyad/triads in the Ridwhan school, Radical Relating, Soulful Communication, Social Meditation (at Shambhala centers) and so on. Meditation in-relation is the future in my opinion.
    Many meditators, yogis and those deep into self-work seem to have great personal development and very little self-other growth where old self-other character patterns seem not touched by most personal individual practices.

    • @Shibby27ify
      @Shibby27ify Před 4 lety +1

      There's one type of psychotherapy out there that's completely congruent with authentic communication, non-pathologizing and non-fixing as a therapeutic approach: Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy. Just developing myself as a therapist in this path is like doing something like Circling or Radical Relating, these practices can be practiced in many many ways

    To me, the answer to the question of "where we are going", the thing that attracts me to this channel, is not unnameable at all. It's the idea that each and every one of us are waking up to the fact that we each have a voice and the power to broadcast it to the world. And in seeing others courageously think in public it inspires us to do the same. The younger generation is already interconnected through Twitch streaming and the like - they're already doing the thing, albeit in a more carefree and playful way. I feel like Rebel Wisdom represents the older generation (myself included in this at 36 years old) who are realizing we can do that thing too, and realizing that a collective intelligence can exist in this space where we are all constantly doing our best to share our perspective of reality with everyone else, and building networks of trust in the process.

  • @cmw3737
    @cmw3737 Před 4 lety +2

    The sense that I'm getting is that language is almost 1-dimensional in that we can only hold one word in our mind at once. Like a scanner we continuously map the landscape of reality and our thoughts with words but then it fades and is gone again unless it is recorded but then rewatching the recording by and large repeats that same line. That huh moment or crystallising something into a higher level concept, of understanding and naming it, is the way we expand the width of the scanner so that we can then talk about things from a higher level or perspective, from pixels to objects, then going over the same set of knowledge may add new information and change our internal state. Someone might have a profound moment of clarity (with or without drugs) but if can't be captured as a 2-3 Dimensional model or movement but only as a linear list of words, it too only exists as out attention passes over it and we just go around re-experiencing things with the occasional sense of deja vu. Everything we are searching for in our curiosity may one day be written, having at some point been modelled in the mind of some author, philosopher or scientist, but the whole can never fit in one mind. Not a human one anyway. One question is whether we can collectively understand something while no individual does so and what needs to be communicated between people to make sense of the whole. Some say that's culture and we shouldn't mess with it and continue to follow the unconscious rules without thinking about them but someone will and I think it's worth thinking about whether those rules always lead to a continuation of the game.

    Beautiful, I love that you 'catch the threads of consciousness' as you are in open conversation, have created space and are in Allowance with another, you stop and 'name it', while I would say you stop and see feel with your whole body that new thread acknowledging what has come through into being with your (both of you ) words. It is not the ego of I thought of that, but of oh look what we have created between us:-) They are the best conversations to have, and a joy to see them evolving on this channel. What we are evolving- or remembering is this ability to catch these threads of consciousness that are being brought through by humans (unseen and unknown) all around the world tying them to this plane and then seeing them bubbling up all around the world. Love this Magic and Weaving :-) xx

      @mihailbila3530 Před 2 lety +1

      @@roadsterella The fact that John Vervaeke fully endorses circling (he has commented here) might point the same problem Yarvin noticed with 'circling' - people who reject organic human interactions (for various reasons, like having been bullied or having had a traumatic rejection of religious education) tend to want to reinvent them purely from a detached, left brain perspective.

    At 39 mins - What most humans do is start to think when they are listening without then realising that they are no longer listening, they are just caught up in there own thoughts. That said - the conversations I'm having out here in the real world aren't very interesting! Joe public doesn't want to talk about or listen to things that matter or maybe I'm just being to cowardly to speak up!

      At the deepest levels, I think it gets into notions of identity. If you enter a genuine dialogue with someone, as being discussed in this chat, you risk leaving it as an "entirely" new person. This is terrifying and why I think "courage" was mentioned several times!

    Seems like an awful lot of ongoing self congratulatory navel gazing going on here. No doubt a necessary and practical, pre-hunt Pow-wow type ceremonial prelude to the real hunt. But in the end the village continues to move slowly towards a factual starvation. Before we hit full on, irretrievable starvation dynamics and start falling like flies, a prudent question that must be faced by you “hunters” of the new paradigm, where’s the corn? Otherwise the thing that now can’t be named will be hindsight into why the famine occurred under your watch. There is after all a time factor in solving the hunger game.
