    I have this laptop but with a 7700HQ processor and it had serious issues with thermals on 2 of the 4 cores after 3 months. I just changed the thermal paste and oh my God temperatures went down by 35 degree under load!
    Thanks for the video I just have 2 points to add to the video:
    1. If you have a hard drive remove it BEFORE disassembly! There is a cable that runs from the motherboard to it and it's screwed to the bottom lid.
    2. The battery DOESN'T work untill you screw the bottom!
    I had a panic attack after a very smooth procedure when it did nothing when I tried to test boot it untill I had all the screws in place.

    My temperatures went from idle (sometimes) to mid use 20 degrees celsius lower! where it normally would sit in between 85-95 range on the CPU and 80 on the GPU under load or midload (yes it spiked that high), I know have a 76C max on the CPU and 72C max on the GPU.

    I have an Acer Nitro 5 7700HQ 8GB GTX 1050TI, and it was getting 93-95c gpu temps and 90+c CPU temps during heavy load (Gaming or Stress Test), both had thermal throttle issues. After CPU -0.130v undervolt with "Intel Extreme Tuning", i got 80-85c on thermal without thermal throttle. And i did a GPU undervolt with "MSI Afterburn" that increased the performance but was unable do decrease any temps. So I did replace the thermal paste on both CPU and GPU with Noctua NT-H1.... The temperatures went down to 75-80c on CPU without undervolt and 75c on GPU without undervolt. With both undervolts, CPU was on 65-70c and GPU 65-73c. Got an adicional 10 fps in games like Apex Legends. In conclusion, looks like Acer is using mud as thermal paste on these laptops. Just replace it, it actually works wonderfully well!

    If you are undervolting, it is worth looking into locking the cpu at a lower frequency and it won't heat up as much. I repasted mine, undervolted and lockt it at 3.1 ghz, as a result, when I game it stays around 69°C instead of 95+(it was scorching).
    Also if you take it apart, the fans and the heatsink are kind of next to each and that's where the dust and stuff goes.

    @XXXXL25 Před 5 lety

    Hi, I am currently doing a lot of research on laptop repasting, as I have a problem with my VN7-593G (Aspire V Nitro 15). I know, it's a different series, but from what I saw, the heatsink design (fans, screws, material) is similar. So my problem is that I can't get the screws out from the heatsink and the fans on my notebook. I already tried way more force than on the case screws, but I don't want to try too hard and end up stripping the screws. I'm thinking about getting the iFixit essential Toolkit since I believe their screwdrivers and bits are way better than the 20yr old precision screwdrivers I have lying around. So would you recommend getting this toolset and try again? If yes, which exact bit did you use to open the screws? Or would you recommend asking the acer support first?

    • @BobOfAllTrades
      @BobOfAllTrades  Před 5 lety

      The toolkit is linked in the description. I can't recommend tearing today's hardware without it, unless you're the type to have tons of tools in your garage. I don't recall there being anything other than a phillips screwdriver.

    I've got this same model. I haven't undervolted it, but I did repaste.
    Before the repaste the idle temp (around 10% cpu usage) was 45c but it
    would get to 95c+ under full load.
    After the repaste it idles at
    around 45c-47c and only goes up to 74c under full load over extended
    periods of time. I'm definitely happy with the temp under load, but
    honestly I'm confused as to why idle temp stayed the same.
    What kind of idle temps are you getting? Do you think it's okay for the cpu to have such a high idle temp?

    • @BobOfAllTrades
      @BobOfAllTrades  Před 5 lety

      The fan curve pays respect to the temps so idle temps likely won't change. It's also why your load temps improved so much assuming you used the max fan speed button. Make sense?

    Hi, need one help.
    In my Nitro 5, (7700H and 1050ti), CPU reaches 85-90c under load with -100v undervolt (otherwise reaches 95c no thermal throttle though), and there seems to be a lot of fluctuations in the temperature. GPU however is quite stable (65-75 under load) not much fluctuation either. Could it be thermal paste issue?
    Would acer service cover this under warranty (don't want to void it yet).

  • @iClokwise
    @iClokwise Před 4 lety

    Was doing this and when I pulled the back cover off I pulled the sata cable pins right out of the connector on the hdd side. Now I have to wait a week for a replacement sata cable. Would be nice to warn people prior to removing the backing about how short this cable is and mention how in your demo you dont have to worry about this earlier. Otherwise, good video and I was able to clean the fans of dust and repaste the gpu and cpu. Once the sata cable comes Ill get to see the difference. Under load I used to run my cpu at 90° and gpu wasnt far behind.
