    This is the most in depth and one of the best guides out there. This video needs a lot more likes especially in the acer community. My Acer nitro has started to run at high temperatures recently and I was thinking about repasting but im holding off on that since the laptop is just around 2 years old from new. Amazing tutorial 🙌

    Had to replace my fans after this awful grinding sound began to occur, I think I was lucky considering how long I managed to have it before the fans began to go out, especially how often I used it, worried about having the right parts initially despite having the exact part numbers in order but everything worked swimmingly for me, start to finish! Definitely will be looking back to this video when it comes time for me to do the thermal paste, thank you for making this tutorial! I had found others prior but they didn't seem so in-depth and show everything as clear for me to understand, so again, thank you lots!

    Thank you for the very clear tutorial! I was scared when I saw mentions of needing a paste for the fan replacement, but somewhat relieved to see it's a different process from fan replacement, though heavily recommended.
    It's kind of scary to read up on repairs for laptops costing well over $500 when the parts are under $100 and just need screws... Granted, if I mess up it's my own fault as a nonprofessional tinkering with tech, but for some repair costs out there, I might as well save up for a new laptop, yikes.
    I think I messed up my gpu fan after cleaning it for the first time in a while... Loud noise and even slight vibration, but it's not the fan being jammed or a loose wire, so after asking around and looking up different sites, it seems like the fan bearing has just worn down after many years and my cleaning finished the job, oops...
    At least my laptop's not hot, but I figure I better bite the bullet and fix it now rather than wait and find out the neglect slowly made something else worse.
    Thank you again!

    • @WhatTheFia
      @WhatTheFia Před měsícem

      @@patrickbovin8023 If it's slight, might not be an issue, but it could get worse over time. If you can afford it I would recommend replacing the fans. Could prevent a worse headache down the line. My fans weren't visibly damaged, but they were not acting right. After I replaced them, I had no further issues, the problem was purely with the fan. I can't say for certain, but chances are at least one of the fan blades are slightly bent and are clipping the fan enclosure. It probably won't affect the rest of the laptop, but could greatly diminish cooling.

      Same, this should not be done unless you are having issues with yours fans and out of warranty. If you are going to sell it, do it as soon as possible. The Nitro 5 doesn’t hold much value the older it gets. There is stiff competition on eBay as they are everywhere. The machine that I’m using will be lucky to bring in 2-300 without upgrades. Also be careful with OfferUp as there are lots of scammers there wanting you to mail it to them.
      Good luck. 👍

    I would remove that gallium plaque from the heat sink and polish it, i'ts a massive bottleneck in transfering heat. I once had an old scalped i5 with LM under the lid, it solidified and etched the lid surface pretty badly. What I did is I took a piece of 2k grit sandpaper, glued it to a flat block of wood with a double-sided tape and ground the plaque away. In the end the surface was very cavernous with bits of metal stuck in the holes, but I used fresh box cutter blade and very carefully pried off those bits of what essentially was gallium amalgam foil, then polished the surface some more to make it as shallow as possible (a few particularily deep caves remained though), and finished it off with some polishing paste so it looked like a mirror, always using that bit of wood to not make the surface wobbly and curved. It looked like a plaster wall initially, but in reality the grooves were less than 0.1mm deep, so I could just press the lid further to compensate for removed layer of copper to make good contact (the silicon gasket around the lid is about one millimeter thick, I removed it and used some silicone to reattach the lid). It didn't do much difference at that moment, but the contact surface of gallium and copper would corrode further over time, deepening the damage. It works for ten years already, I change the grease once every 18 months or so. I use Arctic Cooling MX-4 instead.

    Hi, nice video. Its big problem if i dont change those "things" with k5 pro? just leave old ones, and change only cpu with gpu thermal paste?

    • @Meanpooh
      @Meanpooh  Před 2 lety

      If they are in good shape and fairly new, I dont think its a problem. I've done it before with a new laptop. You should have no problem. Make sure to keep an eye on your temperatures if you do. If they are higher after you remove the heatsinks then you may have to replace them.

    The fans that him put in the description are out of stock where else can i find them?

    I've only had mine for over 3 months and although doesn't sound nearly as bad as this, I've been noticing less air coming out on the gpu fan but it shows on nitro sense that it should he spinning faster. And it's not like before, now it's hotter but weaker, as opposed to the strong flow of air that it once had. I've cleaned the fan with a makeup brush once when I upgraded the ram but didn't bother to take out the fans as I did not have a thermal paste with me to replace the old one. It wasn't that dusty but now I'm suspecting a blockage in the vents causing the reduced airflow.
    My question is what specific thermal paste do you recommend on this laptop and how often should I clean/replace the thermal paste to avoid thermal throttling

    • @Meanpooh
      @Meanpooh  Před rokem +2

      Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, Cooler Master MasterGel Pro and Arctic MX-5 are some good ones. They are not conductive so its safe if you accidentally get it on your motherboard. If you can reuse your thermal pads, do it. If not replace them. Gelid Solutions is a good brand. K5-Pro is good but it's messy and some people don't have good results although it has worked fine for myself.
      You should only change thermal paste, grease and thermal pads if your temperatures are higher than normal with the fans cleaned.

    This was way more complicated then I thought it would be, I'm definitely gonna take it to a local service store instead 😅

    My fans arrived with tape only on one side rather than two. Do you reckon I should return them due to the tape having some functional use or is the tape merely just to keep the fan in place?

    • @Meanpooh
      @Meanpooh  Před 6 měsíci

      You could send them back or you could take the tape off the old fans. The fan sorta creates a seal for airflow.

    Hello, am planning to replace the kryonaut with gelid gc extreme. Is it okay if I only use gelid extreme for everything instead of k5 pro and thermal grizzly?

    • @Meanpooh
      @Meanpooh  Před 10 měsíci

      Only use it for the CPU and GPU. Use thermal pads or some other brand of liquid thermal pad for everything else.

    Very informative video.
    Does opening the lid void the warranty? Is there a sticker of some sort that gets torn?

    • @Meanpooh
      @Meanpooh  Před rokem +1

      No it will not void the warranty. There is no sticker. If you happen to break something while inside then proceed to warranty claim, you may get charged for the fix if they find out its your fault.

    Hey, question on this. When I was taking apart my laptop of the same model to clean the fans, like I have plenty of times before. And after I put it back together it would turn on anymore. No charging light with a working charger. No response at all. You have any recommendations or know any info that may help me?
