The first time I took my fully stock G82 X-drive to the track, I was blown away by how compliant the front was. I could not get the car to understeer no matter how much steering angle I put on. Plus, it would shoot out of slow hairpins with no drama and no loss of traction in second gear even with all driving aids switched off. It's crazy how a 1800 Kg car behaves like a featherweight dancer. The chassis and suspension design is marvelous and works very well with OEM spec tires.
Using a Racebox mini, and on my fastest lap of the day, I recorded a max cornering force of 1.27G at 73 KPH on a 110 degree right hander and 1.19G under braking, on a car with stock iron rotors and no CF options.
I have a manual G80 and the car is amazing out of the box. It’s incredible how much traction you get with so much power and RWD. I really have to push to break the wheels loose around corners and off the line.
I am getting the CarBahn stage-1 tune which will put me at just under 600hp. The fact that it comes with a full warranty is a huge selling point. Are there more powerful tunes available? Yes, but what I love about Steve is his focus isn’t on squeezing as much power as he can out of cars, his focus is on overall drivability and reliability.
The G8X platform is truly spectacular. People hate on the looks but I love it. In the next 20-years, the M3/4 will go down as arguably the best M3 of all time.

Great interview! I could listen to steve talk about cars for hours. Got a quick question for you guys. Are your Carbahn tunes, specifically Smooth Power Flash Tuner Stage 1 tunes CARB and Smog legal? Will it pass OBDII Smog test?
@@carbahnofficialso they do have a corresponding carb EO number? I would assume the Carbahn shop I I get it installed at would give us that information, because I can’t seem to find it on the carb website.

always a treat and honor to hear Steve talk. Damn shame of current state of BMW, can't seem to figure out what they want to do. BMW used to have a cult following that rivaled Porsche and they sure as hell gave that up in a heart beat in pursuit of big nose designs and lexus-driving experiences
