"Ewan McGregor reacts to THAT Obi-Wan Kenobi meme"
*Do you have the slightest idea, how little that narrows it down?!*
I know right, I made quite a few as well ^_^
😂🤣😆 *visible confusion*
Memes are his specialty
Yeah, it's called "CLICK BAIT"
@@TheVCRTimeMachine it's meming because there's so many iconic Obi-Wan memes that saying "THAT Obi-Wan Kenobi meme" doesn't narrow it down at all.
“Hello there”
becomes one of the biggest memes.
Ewan: “I don’t remember saying it”
I feel offended.
He's getting closer to the Alec Guiness' Obi-Wan as he didn't remember owning droids.
He didn't quite say that
he's trying to make it that much sweeter when he says it in the show ;)
the actor who played Asian Jim forgot he did it and thought people were being racist calling him Asian Jim
Can't thank Ewan and Hayden enough for coming back to this. It's like a perfect gift for the fans.
A gift! Nah get ready to be thoroughly disappointed. Hard cheese mate!
@@conorking3579 I find your lack of faith disturbing.
@@zyfated we shall see.
@@conorking3579 must be kind of sad and lonley in your world.
@@scottydavenport5215 Nah he’s got a point. Be cautiously optimistic when it comes to Disney’s interpretation of Star Wars. Last three films were garbage, Boba Fett was a side character in his own TV show. The Mandalorian was great though.
Explaining memes to actors usually never goes down well. A forced laugh to humour the host is usually the result. I’ll be honest, never even put Alex Guinness and hello there together ha, meant a lot more to him than the fans.
"Hello there!"
I looked at it as a call back to Alec Guinness in the original Star Wars. He drops the hood of his cloak to reveal his face, says "Well hello there" to R2-D2. But I'm 42 and grew up on the original trilogy. Like Bane was already a man by the time he saw the light, I was already a man when the prequels were released lol
blasphemy
Too bad Ewan McGregor was forced to go woke
@@kyleenblom what do you mean? lol
I love how when Ewan was looking at the binoculars Memes when he was looking at jar jar he asked the guy what’s the blue thing next to him he said that’s the light saber and Ewan finally understood that was Jar jar hate so he wasn’t smiling anymore. Ewan is such a great guy
Yeah a pretty dumb one to show McGregor considering how much he worked with Best in TPM. I don't know why people make these assumptions that actors dislike the same things that nitpicking fans do, when actors have an entirely different perspective.
Yeah, you can tell he didn't enjoy that joke. Considering that during his interview with Vanity Fair , he said he wanted to work with Ahmed again.
Obi-Wan was just ready to fight off Darth Jar-Jar before he could corrupt Luke....
Ewan loves Jarjar
Ahmed Best has had major issues with mental health due to the Jar Jar hate, showing that meme was a bit tasteless
If Obi-Wan does not say hello there in this show, we riot. 😂
This show will be awesome! As long as woke stuff don’t ruin it! 😂
@@James-cu9ul just so ya know james, women having a voice was considered 'woke' not too long ago. Be careful with the 'traditional values' stuff, go far enough back and we were all under someone else's boot.
@@shaunh4108 I think he means woke as fake putting diversity for more profits
@@James-cu9ul What woke stuff?
@@shaunh4108 Of course you are right with that, but Disney has proven in the past that it is willing to sacrifice the faithfulness of an adaptation to its source material and therefore the quality of their product for political reasons. For example: The new Percy Jackson series.
Of course the representation of different ethnicities or men and women is important, but you should never try to change already established characters and stories.
"That was Alec Guinness, who said the line, actually. It's the first line he ever speaks in A New Hope."
He's so humble, oml. We don't deserve Ewan for having this much love for Star Wars, it's really refreshing.
I mean every "Hello there" is a nice wave at Alec Guinness, and you notice how it gets increasingly more Alecish too. :)
The Jarjar meme was a bit tasteless considering how much Ewan loves Ahmed Best and knowing that Ahmed had a hard time after playing that character because of all the hate.
Yes almost attempting suicide over fan reception. And this was in the early days of the internet before social media. Just imagine what could have been?
Fully agreed. This was all I could think about watching that moment
Myth.
This thing never happened.

I have the feeling he had a genuine laugh not at the meme, but just at seeing Jar-Jar, only to immediately drop it once he realized it was about killing Jar Jar.
Ewan and Hayden being in this series has me more excited than any other SW series.
"The team is back together baby!!"
This is Clone Wars Season 7 levels of excitement for me.
Sadly one of them is gonna die in the series.
And become more powerful than you can possibly imagine

Dude is a clown for showing Ewan that Jar Jar meme
He's clearly over the Obi-Wan memes but feigns laughter anyway.
What's that blue thing next to me 😒
specifically the Jar Jar one. that one was tastless
It’s a bit cringe that’s for sure..
Ewan was definitely trying to be polite but certainly feel a weird vibe during that part of the interview
Starting off with a tasteless jar jar meme definitely ruined any chance of ewan enjoying the memes. If the presenter just went with the second one or some other meme that didn't pander to star wars hate, he might have actually liked it. Did you feel it? Just referencing jar jar hate turned the whole atmosphere into an awkward unenjoyable interview.
Notice how Ewan wasn’t amused by the idea of taking out Jar jar. Some of these media idiots are so out of touch by showing him that.
He knows the actor got a lot of unnecessary hate about it
Ewan McGregor is such a cool dude. He is always laughing and upbeat. He always has such an awesome attitude. Gets you excited about the show just to listen to him.
I think that was a fake laugh or he was laughing at the interviewer.
He and James McAvoy should do a project together. They are both crazy Scottish actors who love fun and are well experienced in sci fi genre.
Yeah Ewan’s professionalism and restraint is uncanny. Either that or he has lost his mental sanity long ago with these lazy meme questions
Great actor.. pitty that Lucasfilm ruins it coz political zealotry and incompetence.
I dar you to say that to his his ex-wife
Ewan when he sees his old friend Jar Jar: :D

He didn’t like that Jar Jar meme at all.
@@dimension-121 Right. He liked it until he realized it was making fun of Jar Jar.
The "Hello there!" Is beloved because it's the literal perfect line for the situation.
1.) It breaks the audience's tension. Obi-wan is casual it catches the audience off guard and makes you want to laught.
2.) Obi-wan while he's a general in the republic army is, for all intents and purposes, a cheeky PoS. He ALWAYS has a one-liner, he has a toxic smugness about him (though one that's well-earned), and most of the time he's the smartest guy in the room. This line shows off his smugness beautifully.
3) as a jedi, Obi-wan must give his enemies a chance to surrender before inflicting violence that isn't defensive. It announces himself without being aggressive OR limp-wristed so he remains the non-aggresor
It's so heartwarming to hear about Hayden's reception being back on set
I've never watched a Star Wars film, but I find the reception that Hayden and Ewan have gotten truly heartwarming after decades of being attached to Prequels that were treated so meanly.
Ewan: "I don't remember saying it"

He's right people always forget "Hello there" was a reference to Alec Guinness.
I always connected it to the "Hello There" by Alec Guinness in Star Wars.
Also the "So uncivilized!" when Ewan throws down the blaster after killing Grievous.
“An elegant weapon…for a more civilized age.” 🥰 I almost squealed in the theater the very first time I ever saw ROTS when Obi-Wan looks with total disgust at the blaster and says, “so uncivilized,” before throwing it to the ground.
I was (okay am 😅) such a Star Wars fanatic, I heard the connection to A New Hope immediately. 😆
"Hayden is so loved". I love to hear that :)
Hayden coming back is such a major thing after the way the public treated him and the boy thelat played young anakin in episode 1. Then you had him becoming especially distanced when he decided his daughter wasnt allowed to see episode 3 because of the vader scenes
Anyone else's heart warm up when hearing how people love Hayden and react on set?
Thank you for coming back Ewan, you're bringing a lot of joy into peoples' lives after what was probably a very tough last 2 years. Welcome back to Hayden also, literally my childhood hero.
I don't know why people act like the movies weren't made by Lucas to be quotable and sarcastic. There are so many lines in the saga that are intentional refrains or references, and people act like they unintentionally stand out, to make fun of them.
Ironic.
The genius of George Lucas is in creating icons. Characters, scenes, lines, throughout Star Wars and Indiana Jones he has left one of the biggest if not the biggest impacts in pop culture cinema. They've tried replicating it, but it has never worked.
Exactly. The only iconic lines I remember from Marvel is “I can do this all day,” and “Wakanda Forever”
@@Pinkorchid72 “With a great power comes a great responsibility” “Avengers Assemble” “I am Iron Man” “I love you 300 thousand” “We’re together till the end of the line” “Part of the journey is the end” “The hardest choices require the strongest wills.” “But a thing isn’t beautiful because it lasts.” “Hulk smash” “That’s my secret, Captain. You can tell Ewan and Hayden are just as nervous as the rest of us for this show. Extremely excited I just hope it’s written well!
Ewan thinking that line is popular because of Alex Guinness but none of us even knew Alex Guinness said that line 🤣🤣
Alec*
Fr tho I forget every time
Oh yes we did.
When Alec was re-introduced to the droid R2-D2 , , Alec greets R2 as if it were a toddler with "hello There" , , sometime after he scared away the Tusken raiders and helped Luke to safety , , , there are better Obi Wan quotes however, , , ,
I don’t know who this Alex Guinness person is but he better not be some old white guy preaching about some hokey religion and advocate for the ownership of ancient weapons.
The "Hello There!" line is great because it's Obi-Wan cutting loose, dropping into what seems inevitable doom, and knowing if he's going down, he's going down swinging. That moment let you know he was a superhero and made me understand how he'd beat Anakin when the time came.
I was so happy when he said it in Kenobi. That was the icing on the already perfect cake. By far the best Star Wars series ever
2:47 I love how obi is sittin there in the dessert drinkin tea 😂
I've been waiting for these interviews and this storyline all my life.
"There's never that many people on set" - the implication of this is that Hayden doesn't get much screen time, which is to be expected.
Makes sense, you don't wanna saturate the screen with the big looming bad
@@MrDeadline86 you should, we want Vader
@@KingZedusPrime2009TyrentKaiju You shouldn’t. Villains work best when they don’t dominate the whole thing, especially Vader.
In the original film for instance he’s only in 12 minutes of the movie, but he’s iconic because his presence can be felt despite his short screen time in that film.
Same in RO, Vader is only in a few short minutes, but makes the best of it.
Ultimately the series isn’t about him, and seems to partly be about Kenobi learning about what happened to him. In a story like that, with a character like Vader, it’d make most sense to give him little screen time, especially when it comes to scenes he shares with Ewan.

“Hello there” and “general kenobi” is my customary greeting to my friends
I love this man so much im gonna cry
I love these actors.
When us kids first saw New Hope Obi-Wan Kenobi was just sort of the old wizard helping the adventures type guy. Even when Yoda mentioned the Clone Wars in Empire it went by so fast all we got from it was that there were no more wizards left to help fight Darth Vader. To see all these deep backstories be written long after the first three movies had just a few lines about it is amazing. It's like some kind of time travel. 😄
Absolutely love the new series ❤️
i love how much ewan has idolised alec guinness right from the start. in every interview he mentions something connecting him and alec and i think that's really beautiful, even if he knows that everyone pictures his face at the mention of "obi wan kenobi".

Yea Hayden nearly defined the prequels for me, he was the nexus that everything else connected back to, and I can’t wait to see him on screen getting some well deserved vindication after all these years
But he will be in a Vader suit so we won't really see him acting.
I can't imagine getting the opportunity to talk with Ewan McGregor, and then choosing to do the one thing that 90% of people have come to realize is never fun and always just ends in awkward laughs and attempts to exit an interaction.
