X-Men 97 Season 1 Episodes 1 and 2 just hit... or is that X-Men Season 6 Episodes 77 and 78? The first defacto CONTINUATION of a Fox Kids show, does X-Men 97 surpass its mutant predecessor or does it fall an optic blast short?

Yeah as much as the multi-part episodes proliferated the original series, the only events truly directly referenced were that of the series finale. The confines of Saturday morning television of the time probably do enough that it’s all that was actually needed. I barely remember my TAS binge and it was still easy to follow. Even if this was a brand new series it can feel like they lived the stories offscreen. Like Earth-96 Superman in TV Crisis on Infinite Earths
