Stryker is a recurring reminder of the threat that humans pose to mutants. For all of Charles' optimism and hope, men like Stryker are an example that Magneto's militant stance is not completely unwarranted. It's also because the movies seemed to either revolve around or revisit Wolverine's character and his origins, and Stryker is directly responsible for the most traumatic moments of Logan's life. I can only be left to assume the timeline changes Wolverine made in X-Men: Days of Future Past had some sort of butterfly effect where Josh Helman William Stryker paid more attention to taking care of his health and looks more youthful in the 80s, but this presumably doesn't stop him from looking like Brian Cox William Stryker in 200X.

In X-3 Warren’s dad invents the cure for mutants, which isn’t an outright attack but it is one manifestation of the fear and insecurity humans experience because of the existence of mutants. Days of Future Past has him traveling back in time to 1973, working as a bodyguard in I think New York. So you think this might be sometime after he left Stryker’s team, but when he goes to Paris and sees him, Stryker reacts like he’s never seen him before, but was fascinated with his bone claws. And it can’t really be before he supposedly met Stryker because it’s the end of the Vietnam War, so either Logan was going to get drafted to a war that was already over after this, or Stryker doesn’t recognize someone he personally recruited and worked on a team with.

Also, Wade wouldn’t be the only one being the wrong age in different decades. Look at characters like Angel, Jubilee, Emma Frost, and especially Jean being like 10 in 1975 AND in 1986. It’s just something you kinda deal with.

Or even Stephen Lang.

@@shrilleth that obsession with Mystique is pretty damn annoying too, since they kind of just made her Magneto's subordinate and concubine. And so now that's the general idea people have of her. She was never an associate of Magneto's in the comics. I really do try not to be such an irredeemable comic lore purest, but it's more difficult with X-Men than it is for other comics. And she DEFINITELY was never a good guy. Not even when she was with X-Factor. But we all know that the later films only did THAT because Jennifer Lawrence became like A-List famous while they still had her under contract for multiple films.
And as for Sabretooth...people constantly talk about how terrible X-Men Origins: Wolverine is...and they aren't wrong, cuz it certainly wasn't a GOOD film...but at least they made a genuine effort to portray Sabretooth more like he is in the comics.

For those of you who are confused by the timeline, let me give you the basic jest of it.
First, there's First Class in 1962 and X-Men Origins Wolverine, which takes place in the early 70s and 1979. Then, jump to the 2000s, and the events of the original X-Men trilogy take place. 2013 is The Wolverine, and in the end, the credits scene it shows him joining Xavier and Magneto to ask him for help regarding the rise of the sentinels. The beginning of Days of Future Past takes place in 2023, where the world is basically in ruins and sentinals run society and hunt mutants. Wolverine is sent back to 1973 by Kitty Pryde to stop the sentinels from ever taking over by stopping Mystique and then the events of Apocalypse in the 1983 and Dark Pheonix in 1992 take place in this new timeline. Hence, why Mystique is shown in the original trilogy but dies in Dark Phoenix. Anyways, in this same timeline, we jump to 2015 or 2016, where the events of Deadpool take place. Now, it's not actually confirmed whether the Deadpool films are in the same continuity, but this is where they would go if they were. Fast forward to 2026, where the events of New Mutants takes place, and there is not much to say about that, obviously, but it all ends in 2029 with the events of Logan. I believe 2027 or 2028 is the year where the X-Mansion is destroyed and many of the mutants are killed. As for Deadpool and Wolverine, that is probably a whole other ball game, and I haven't even seen the movie yet. I know it's super confusing, but I hope that clears it up.

I can fix one plot hole here at least. The Wolverine who travels back in time in Days of Future Past, is from the future, where he most likely had access to either files about Stryker or just googled his most hated person and saw perhaps a vietnam era photo of the man. It's not too crazy to assume that in order to remember his entire history, he had done some research about the one man who did most damage to him. So when he sees young Stryker on the ground, he recognizes him instantly.
As for the rest of these, well X men plays really fast and loose with continuity, to the point that in a post Deadpool and Wolverine era, we can just chalk it up to these being different timelines for Logan. Otherwise, we can just say that neither the Origins movie, nor the prequel timeline, really cared about establishing an iron tight continuity.
