Comparing the gymnasts form side by side is really interesting to me. It's the small details like where the gymnast looks that gives the routines such personality.
I hope to see more videos like this!! This is the kind of gymnastics content I get really excited about.

Thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed the videos. I feel the same way about the side-by-side comparisons. It helps you see so many small differences you may not otherwise notice. I plan to continue making these videos and again, glad you like them. All my best.

Her routine was spectacular. I thought the tie breaker was sort of ridiculous and that she and Nastia should have both received a gold medal. IIRC she had some difficulty on bars, maybe at the 2011 Worlds? There were doubts about her capabilities and I think perhaps she felt she let her team down. In the 2012 Olympics, I believe it was during qualifying, on bars, she hit her routine, very solid, and she started crying. To me it seemed to give a glimpse into how demanding the sport is and how thin the margin is between great scores and failure. Phenomenal gymnast.

I think there is a good chance she was much younger than they said and the pressure would feel more at a younger age maybe. She became Olympic champion early and may have felt so much to live up to based on you saying she may have felt she let her team down. I competed for around 13 years and I love the sport but you are right, you invest so much time, passion, energy and emotion - hundreds of routines and you raise your hand to the judge and here it is - good luck with your one chance. I know that is part of the competitive world but it can be very challenging also. Still, Gymnastics gave me much more than I ever imagined it would. Work ethic, great circle of friends with high empathy, the lessons that nothing is easy and got to stick with it. I learned much more how to fail than win but that made the wins so much sweeter. I could say more but to long of a message already. Thanks for you message and all my best.

It's interesting because I have not often heard the Ling, Karpenko, and Bi skills referred to in terms of "Higgins" rolls. I did Higgins turns and they were always just blind changes to el grip.

I M a male gymnast and that’s what men call these skills so I hope I don’t confuse the women athletes. I try to describe what the skill is as well and not get too caught up in the names. The women terminology is a learning curve for me, but I do the best I can.

    • @OLYMPIANTEACHES-bh6gp

Yes, half Higgins is blind changed to El grip and full. Higgins is full pair to grip.

Subscribed for the truly superior analysis. Tough to beat He Kexin for amplitude on the Jaegers.

4:21 is one of the most basic skills, but super impressive to me. she kips up from a dead hang with no form breaks…. crazy

Good observation. It is not difficult for a gymnast and yet many times there are legs separations, but she is tight and clean throughout.

I think you should not mention the age controversy. It was fake news and she maintains her titles, so that information is completely irrelevant and always helps to construct a vail of doubts over these gymnastss accomplishments. . :)

I understand. Thats kind of why I did not go into it more. I remember it well but I feel there is much more I don't know than I do know so I just touched on it a bit. At the time it was more potent. The rules are the same but the countries are different also and this muddies the waters as well how each country deals wit h it. All my best.

Paul Hamm had a similar controversy attached to his gold medal win at the Olympics. It is so unfortuante when those things happen becasue it overshadowes the ability of these great athletes. i dont have a solution.

@@riabright2815 no, I mean, I can’t possibly know what is true and that is why I stayed away from it in depth. It is true there was a controversy because their age was questioned. Beyond that I don’t know enough to elaborate so I did not.
