Whatever role Rigg has appeared in over the years, whether on stage, TV, or film, she’s always gravitated toward strong women characters. In fact, the career of Diana Rigg has taken quite a few twists and turns over the decades. This world-famous British actress was a member of the renowned Royal Shakespeare Company way back in 1959 and graced the Broadway stage in 1970. In the 1960s and 70s, she was one of the most remembered Bond girls-in fact, she was the only Bond girl ever to marry the notoriously hard-to-pin-down 007.
Kids of the 80s will remember Rigg as the snobby but well-groomed Lady Holiday, who gave Miss Piggy her break into the world of fashion in the 1981 film The Great Muppet Caper. Right up until the 1990s, she continued on TV in Dickens and Shakespearean reproductions by the BBC, Emmy-winning miniseries. She was in her late 70s and 80s when she appeared in Game of Thrones and the British rural veterinary drama All Creatures Great and Small. Despite her seemingly vibrant wellbeing and endless zest for life, Diana Rigg wasn’t without her health problems. She was a pack-a-day smoker for pretty much her entire life-a habit that may have contributed to her recent passing from lung cancer. She was 82 years old.

Diana was a great actress. From The Avengers to Game of Thrones she was brilliant.
Thanks for watching!
She was so important to me as a child and her passing caused me deep sadness.
It'll be okay!! I am here for you!! You still matter!!
One of the most beautiful women to appear on TV
In 1962 my parents got our first black & white TV. I was 4 and Diana was playing Emma Peel I never missed an episode. I wanted to be like her all my life, she was my idol.
I loved her as a young teen as Emma Peel. I even sewed my own Emma Peeler jumpsuit to wear and had an Avengers scrapbook. I was always aware of what a great actress she was through the years in film, theater and on TV.
You, sound like me - except the jumpsuit 😉
What a beauty - thx for presenting.
I was fortunate enough to meet Diana Rigg in 2016 at a dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London . Brilliant actress
Diana Rigg was my hero growing up in the 60’ in the Advengers I wanted to be just like her. I was so sad when they discontinued the series. Thank you for posting this ❤️🌹
My favorite role that she had was Mrs. Emma Peel. I was in my early teens and looked up to her. Lol I even wanted to be just like her. RIP Diana Rigg. A true icon.
Thanks for watching!
Good Job Tim. She was an incredible actress, and what an amazing looker.
Thanks for watching!
Yes I can remember The avengers coming on late night on channel 13 PBS, I fell in love with her....😢
Ever since I saw her the first time on the Avengers she has been my favorite actress. No one has come along to replace her. And I am sure they never will.
Diana Riggs was the best as Emma Peele on The Avengers! She was my favorite in that role! So beautiful and charismatic! Haven't seen her in some of the other roles you mentioned but will look for some of them. Thank you for the insight!
We agree!
Yes, there is only one Emma Peele. Diana Rigg
She also appeared in a Doctor Who episode with Matt Smith
My favorite DR role was definitely Emma Peel. As a young girl I was obsessed. I cried when she left the show. As a teen I saw her in both Abelarde & Heloise and The Misanthrope on Broadway. (Gotta love being a NYer!) When she was in The Misanthrope, still a devoted fan, I sent her my picture in a fan letter. Not satisfied with the typical stock fan mail response, I embroidered her name on a T-shirt and hand delivered it to her. Then I somehow managed to convince the backstage manager to let me deliver it directly to her. The first thing she said to me was, "I got your picture." I was so nervous and thrilled, I almost passed out! I really didn't need to take the subway home. I was floating on cloud 9! What a wonderful thing to say and do for a fan. I am 67 years old and I still have her autograph that I got after Abelarde & Heloise close at hand in my desk drawer. Wonderful actress. Wonderful woman.
I enjoyed watching the Avengers ! She was classy and smart!!
Thanks for watching!
No one beats Diana Rigg!
Rip to a beautiful lovely woman
What's your favorite memory of her?
@@FactsVerse I loved her in game of thrones. How she was so smart and led her granddaughter. I really like that at an old age, she still wanted to depict that strong woman character, and that she did! Sad to think how fast life goes. But how outstanding she was at all stages
I was a kid in '60 when l saw first time lovely Emma Peel! Now l am over 60 years and l am still love her! Rest in peace my lovely Diana! Lily from România
What a beautiful woman.
Diana Rigg was such a lovely, wonderful actress. She was also quite interesting to hear during her interviews, such an intelligent person. She performed really well in many of her acting roles, but I most remember her for Agent Emma Peel. With Patrick Macnee, her wonderful co-star in the Avengers, they have both faded into legend. Rest in peace, Diana and Patrick! ❤
Although it was my sister that was a big fan of The Avengers, I liked Diana! I later saw her narrating and hosting a program in the 80s and admired how quietly elegant she was!
So strange we lost Diana Rigg, Honor Blackman, and Bond himself, Sean Connery all in the same year. Such great talent taken from us. RIP.
There was one small but telling aspect of the Emma Peel years in the Avengers. Initially she wore the catsuit that her predecessor Honor Blackman wore but wanted to strike out into something else. Hence the more athletic purple, red and blue suits she wore that made the fight scenes especially sleek and sporty. My favourite episode was Murdersville - about a town that allowed anyone to murder a rival so long as the town was bribed. She was brilliant in it - especially when she was being tortured by being dunked into a pool of water.
Always loved Diana Rigg. Not well know that her name in Avengers..."Emma Peel" is a play on her intent in the series. Diana was gorgeous beyond words...and that was one of her role. She was there to appeal to the men in the audience. Male Appeal..."M" appeal....Emma Peel
Just a kid in the '60s.
Diana was right there with Anne Francis,,,,man, a brunette and blonde.
They were gorgeous and talented.
Thanks for watching!
When I hear a Millennial, mention THE AVENGERS, I immediately think of John Steed ,and Emma Peel. They didn't need CGI, they had Witt, and humor to solve crimes.
Mrs.Peal is my very favorate roll Diana Rigg played on "The Avengers". I liked watching her beat the bad guys right on T.V.
Diana Rigg was also the host of the PBS show " Mystery " for many years also
Diana was our beautiful English 🌹 Rose. As was Roger Moore, great English Gentleman. Great Actor's.
Thanks for watching!
Miss you Greatly Diana Riggs you're very hard to replace...love you much in the Queen of Thorns
We agree!
She's an awesome actress! My favorite roles are Tracy Bond and Emma Peel.
Thanks for watching!
This actress was one of my favorite role models for being a strong, capable woman. Her appearances as Emma Steele on The Avengers was the inspiration for my sci-fi female warrior "Shema".
Oh now I loved her in my very young days.
What's your favorite memory of her?
Seeing Diana Rigg in The Avengers, when I was a little kid, in very large measure created and defined my idea of what a woman “is”. Made quite an impression on my formative years.
She was more than Emma Peel, but that’s my first memory of her…..
Then she was a Bond girl? No! Her character married Bond (watch the opening scene in one of Roger Moore’s films, he’s bringing flowers to someone’s grave) but then dies on the way to their honeymoon…..
She was a true Shakespearean actress and an English Dame….
All in all she was quite a woman.
Farewell Dame Diana
The sterling combination of intelligence, wit, assertive independence, style and arresting beauty puts her in the top category of female pulchritude: goddess. It is also very lonely at the top. Rest In Peace Dame Diana Rigg.
I wish I could've seen her stage performances, especially MacBeth with Anthony Hopkins and her award-winning role in Medea.
I adored her in The Avengers since she created the perfect woman to me--even though I was probably ten years old! Smart, sexy, confident, independent...perfection.
I had no idea about her past but now I do. After watching her role in the games of throne it left me with her as the longest-lasting memory of an actress in the series because her acting was so good! RIp
Thanks for watching!
No mention of her childhood in India?
OMG Wmma peel, on the avengers what a roll, Diane Riggs, yes is a tough, strong, rugged and smart woman
Thanks for watching!
Avengers was the best, beautiful and smart woman!
We agree!
shows how you can't beat the stunning beauty of youth.
Love her role in On her Majisties Secret Service Tracy Bond...yummmie
Same here!
As a young boy in the 60's I was smitten by Emma Peel on The Avenger's. I loved her anytime I saw her on screen. What a great actress and thank you so much for this video.
Missed movies of note : The Assassination Bureau , Theatre of Blood , The Hospital, with George C. Scott , & Evil Under The Sun. Worked with Vincent Price & replaced him on the PBS , Mystery Anthology . Extensive work in all realms of entertainment . Also an author .
Right! I saw all and loved her in Mother Love and she redid Rebecca. She was a hoot in Mrs. Bradley’s Mystery’s. I think I saw the majority of what she did.
Diana Riggs as Bondgirl was perfect " Nobody do it better ". I loved her also in The Avengers. She pumped Adrenalina and Fashion and most of all Respect for Female Talent in the movies and real life from the beginning . In this days i have seen the last chapter in the 007 Segret Agent with Daniel Craig and I was been most impressed by the same similarity with the actress Ana De Armas. Few minutes in the movie scenes but in all that scenes She takes my looking and let me say She has somethin about Diana...only something that I don't know to express but She has it.
I was heart broken when Emma Peel left The Avengers. I watched every week and had a great crush on Diana. RIP, Diana.
Us too! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. May Diana find peace 🙏

@@FactsVerse Hi :3 I want to see something about Queen MOther Madonna. She is so underrated and she deserves better
The more I see of her performances, the more I appreciate.
Fantastic
My favorite Diana Rigg character was Mrs. Emma Peel playing opposite Patrick Macnee as John Steed, in The Avengers.
Stunning beauty and a wonderful actress
She is missed
We miss her too
Great cat suit.

Interesting, loved her, may she rest in peace, 🙏, great video thanks 🖤
Loved all of her work.. especially during the 1960's.
An outstanding person in every way.
Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Diana. In your opinion, what is her finest role?
One of the great actresses. So good with Patrick Macnee.
Yrs, I agree Diana Riggs was super sexy...loved her jumpsuit in Advengrrs..
We loved it too!
She was a GREAT actress and role model for girls in the 1960's!
Some men too.
To me her performance as Tracy Di Vicenzo was her best, I've watched movie several times, definitely one of the best Bond movies. fell in love with her when I was about 10 years old.
Hello again Facts Verse 👋 My dad (RIP) was hooked on Diana Rigg and would always watch The Avengers. Thank you for another great video, and I hope you and your subscribers have a wonderful day/evening. 👍
Thanks for watching!

@@FactsVerse you are so welcome.
My Dad(RIP) was also a fan of Diana Rigg and was watching Avengers reruns even during the '80s.
Sorry to hear about her death. She was so beautiful and I loved her when I was a kid. 🌹🥰🇦🇺
I am 63. I watched The Avengers as a child, obsessed with a woman who was a total badass!
Tracy Bond is why she will be remembered in the US!
Thanks for watching!
Emma Peel, then Tracy.
Thumbs up from the Dooleys of Michigan Enjoyed The Video
Mother love has to be one of her greatest performances, good as Joan Crawford.
She has to be one of those rare women who commands respect and adoration. Truly a counterpart of Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister). Although as amazing as she was young.
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
I had a crush on her. I use to watch the reruns back in the early 70s.
I was in love with Diana Riggs in the 60s
As a young boy when they said she was leaving the avengers , I cried myself to sleep as a young 7 year old ,she broke my heart
RIP
Thanks for watching!
@@FactsVerse You’re welcome
Emma Peel, no doubt. Of course I am 62 years old
Thanks for watching!
It is interesting to note that Diana Rigg , has been snubbed a lot by women, which does not jive with the Women's Liberation movement at all. Her death was minimally covered in the US . On Turner classic Bio of her, she has no picture & is missing several movie roles of importance. I have brought this to Turners complaint Dept to see if it can be rectified . Diana Rigg was quite outspoken in her lifetime & her opinions are noteworthy. Many seem to have a grudge against her comments. Those interviews can be viewed on youtube. Decide for yourself .
She was not a women’s libber, she already was what they wished. She was outspoken for women rights as an equal to men - especially equal pay. She was definitely ahead of her time and admitted when asked what character she had played was most like her; she replied “Um, Emma Peel was most like me, of course she did all this fighting - but I’m not really that militant.” I remember she was on the David Frost talk show at that time and it was the early 70s..I was a teenager. I had already started following her career since The Avengers and kept an old scrapbook of things I’d find of her in newspapers and magazines back then, my most favorite actress till the end. It was like I lost a close friend, sort of a “mentor” since I did agree with most her thoughts and independence as I matured, accepting myself for being gay. I’ve read of others (men & women) who were influenced by her words and strength. I will always regret I never saw her in a play and met her. WD
@@WndD_74 I have significant details of the creation & story characters of THE AVENGERS tv show. Diana Rigg did want to get married & have children . She did have a daughter Rachel & two unsuccesful marriages & still managed a prominent career .
I loved the avengers I also liked her as tracy bond . In on her majesties secret service
I loved Emma Peel
Thanks for watching!
Famous all over the world. I'm Peruvian, and I loved Diana hen I was young in Peru. My favourite is Emma Peel, the most beautiful and talented actress I have enjoyed watching for years.
She was and is one of my favorites. I even have one of her Pictures on my Instagram.
R.I.P. Dame Enid Diana Elizabeth Rigg! She left a legacy no one else can replicate -
I thought Diana Rigg was great in many roles. I first saw her in The Avengers. I will Never forget her in the role of Emma Peel. She was so Very Beautiful. RIP Diana. Sincerely, Tom
Emma Peel. I was a teenager then, and she swept me off my feet.
Missed that she was raised in India while her father worked there, giving her a special foreign mysterious , capacity & language proficiency . A pack a day is twenty, that is not by any means a heavy smoker. Four packs a day, 80 cigarettes is common for a heavy smoker. Rigg modeled for a bit also & smoking was encouraged. You must never have seen a Film Noir , femme fatale movie from the 1940 & 1950. Rigg was special but hardly a break from downtrodden Women's roles, as you seem to stress. Rigg on the Avengers plays a secret agent & she is modeled after many many successful real , War time agents of the Special Operations Executive , SOE branch. Also American OSS agents doing the same work. This was hardly Women's liberation on tv. It was done in real life first ! She emulated their work with witt, & a bit of silly reflection on spoofing it all. She represented the new Britain along side & respected by the establishment upper class Britain , as represented by John Steed, the perfect Englishmen.
She was great as a Bond girl, she’s my favourite, due to her coming across as intelligent and strong she was a truely a match for bond.
She was a gifted actress and was Loved by many people
What's your favorite memory of her?
from super spy to the queen of thorns. A true actress of intrigue.
A great lady! The Avengers was iconic when I was younger!
Love her i wach all the serious of a avanger her and Steve they wore good couple working together ❤️😊⭐️
It would have to when she was Emma Peele from the Avengers since that was the show that I grew up watching.
I love her...forever.
You're a true fan! In your opinion, what is Diana's finest role?
You would never think she was a chain smoker she was absolutely stunning may she RIP god bless her
20 cigarettes a day, one pack was not a heavy smoker. In fact Patrick, her co-star smoked 80 a day, along with a bottle of Scotch daily. He stopped and made it to 93 . She made it to 82 . She was never a heavy drinker ! How long are you supposed to live anyway ? Look up the average age of people male & female, I would say they both did quite well. Honor Blackman made it to 94.
Average life expectancy in 2022, is 76.1 years for men and 81.1 years for women. Diana was slightly above average.
Amazing woman ❤
Absolutely, we feel the same way! Thank you for sharing your sentiments and for watching our content. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
Although I loved Diana Rigg in the Avengers my favorite Rigg performance in the the movie “A Liitle Night Music” which she costar with Elizabeth Taylor.
The name is Bond, Mrs Bond lolz
Thanks for watching!
Emma Peel, of course! I'd actually forgotten her role in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'.
I so loved Dame Diana, I loved everything about her especially her outfits on The Avenger’s. Before I came out of the closet I so wanted to be Dame Diana.
See my note way above, WD
She also did a role in Dr Who, recently-ish as well as in The Saint opposite Ian Ogilvie, back in the day, I believe
Dame Diana Rigg was great actor who made us smiling all the time. May Almighty God rest her soul in the eternal peace Amina
She will always be Mrs peel to me stunningly beautiful as Mrs peel
I loved Emma Peel--as all pre-teen boys did--but I watch all the GOTs and never knew that was Diana in that role. I just thought is was some old bag, and did not think the role was all that powerful.
Thanks for watching!
