This last month has been hotter than usual here in Central Portugal, but it has been perfect to harvest lots of spring vegetables and plant out the rest of the summer garden.

New here? My name is Lea and I live with my partner Maarten, our daughter Puck and toddler Bo on our land in Central Portugal. We left the rat race in the Netherlands in 2018 and moved south in our old campervan. Two years ago we bought land in Portugal that had been abandoned for several decades. After lots of hard work we now live in a beautiful yurt and keep ourselves busy growing our own vegetables as well as producing olive oil, wine and honey on a small scale. This channel documents all the different jobs we have to do, and sometimes some nice footage of this beautiful country we now call home.

Your videos always have a peacefulness about them. The little ones are growing up so fast. You will blink and they will be grown.
You are awesome. It's hard work to maintain a garden, bring up kids and the household. God bless
Missing you and your beautiful family - hope all is well with you
It’s great to see you’re all ok. Your children are growing and Puck seems to really enjoy the garden. I remember seeing her in your kitchen a couple of years back where she was helping you chop tomatoes you’d harvested. You are so fortunate to have such contented children. It was very touching to see a puck cut across the camera to give you a kiss. It’s the simple things in life that really matter. ❤️Angela ( South Wales)
Thanks Angela, we're all doing great :)
So great to see you and the babies. Tons of goodies you have growing there. Keep up the great work. 🙏 😊
We SO thank you for coming back on air. Hope all goes better with you ALL. We here are hoping you got tractor fixed and will start your home this year . GOD BLESS you all.
We finally got in the needed part for the digger, so hopefully it will be running again soon!
July 3rd and my first red tomato. I think my lates red ever. The drought has slowed, we are thankful. Wishing you a wonderful harvest and summer days of joy. The grands and I did go to some swimming lessons, and they are sad to end them end. I am heading out for some jars; I suspect these tomatoes will all go red in a hurry. I will fill the dehydrator and jars too so as not to lose them. Tomato, basil, olive oil sandwich.
Lovely peaceful morning watching you garden.
Good to see you all again, oh gosh the wild boars do so much damage to gardens usually, lovely to see you all again xxx
The garden is fenced so they won't come in for now
@@ourportuguesehomestead that’s great and phew, I am pleased for you xxx
Wonderful to see you and the kids! You've been missed! This year looks like it's going to be so fun for you! Your gardening skills and progress are gaining fantastically!!! I love the sight of today, while remembering your early days. So happy for you! You shine. And I hope you continue to shine!! 💞🤗💞🤗💞🤗💞🤗
Great video! Lovely to see the children so involved.
Lovely. Thank you!
Your soil in the garden is looking so much better than it did years ago! You have been doing all the right things for your soil there. And I love your nitrogen-fixing experiment in the greenhouse!
Maarten has done a heroic job with all that strimming....
The kids are getting so big!!
So good to see you all, whilst I appreciate you doing weekly videos is not viable for you at the moment I must say you are missed so much your one of my favourites.Good health and gods blessings to you all x
Thanks Wendy :) For now this is the best I can do, but that might change again in the future
Great to see you pacing yourself. You are looking more relaxed now and I adore that green dress! The garden looks so lush.
Nice episode. Personally, I like the children, the parents, the dogs, the boars more than the beans. Your little red daughter is growing from a duck to a swan. Great to see.
Yikes.
It was great to see you all! Thank you for sharing with us. :-)
The garden looks so beautiful, and the green house is doing amazing. Love to see the children helping you too. Love and be safe!😘🤗🌼🇻🇪
It was so good to see you all. Your precious children are growing, and your garden looks healthy. Loved the wild boar clip! ❤
It is nice to see your improvement from the previous years 😊 I bet it feels good. You are looking happy. Take care. You guys did a great job
Getting better every year :)
Watching this I'm remembering your garden from a few years ago... it's so much better this year. Every year has brought a better garden. The mulching and irrigation has vastly improved the soil... the only big thing missing seems to be a source of manure. Rabbits can provide a mild (not hot) manure that can go right into the planting beds without composting. Chicken manure needs to be semi-composted before use. My grandparents had an egg farm (& they supplied the local grocery store), so shoveling out the coop & run provided lots of good stuff for the garden, plus a source of fishing worms. Our farms were right on a river, so fishing & rowboats were a huge part of us kids growing up there. 🙂
Thanks! Working with the soil and learning more each year has definitely helped :) I agree we need more manure, but at the moment we do not want the extra responsibility that more animals bring. We'll get some other animals in the future though and rabbits are definitely an option
This video inspired me to plant my cilantro seeds 💚🌱💚🌱💚 ... ok I'm back. I paused the video and planted them. It's the only thing I'm trying for this year because I am not a gardener but I love cilantro and I love seeing little green things grow. Thank you for being an inspiration to just do it 💚🌱💚🌱💚
Amazing! Hope it grows well for you :)
Will definitely watch this start to finish. Missed a video like this in a while. You show many aspects of this life very beautifully and I can fully see you improved and learned a lot with time. If you have wild boards beware, they can destroy all your crops, and fences. They even attack chickens. Keep an eye on them. Most people just shoot them and eat then or feed them to dogs. They are very tasty as well. I love fava beans. They're extremely productive as well. And very tasty in a traditional dish "favas com chouriço" or "favas com ovos escalfados". They're just great! And the husks you can feed to chickens too. Anyways thank you for the video!
Thanks Luis, glad you liked it :) We haven't had any trouble with the javali so far, Louis does a great job at keeping them at a distance. I love favas too! Next year I want a whole field 😂 Favas com chourico sounds amazing...
Good that Louie keeps the wild boar at bay, I hope it keeps going like that, because they are really destructive for the crops. I never heard of them attacking chickens. Their meat is really delicious and most farmers have to hunt them or permit hunters to do it, to save their crops
@@grandmasstories3418 yes that's true.
I needed this video today. How do you always put out the exact right content when I need it the most? Bo is now a toddler, congrats!
Happy to hear that :) Bo's a giant!
I have enjoyed watching you and your family work the land and seeing it grow.
Thanks Shannon, we really appreciate your support :) Hope to be back soon with a video on what we're doing with all these veggies
You have made a very relaxing and verdant vlog. You are making a wonderful life in Portugal for yourselves and. your children

Truly a delight to see you are all doing well 😊 the kids are growing as fast as your fava beans 😂 good luck dealing with the coming heat, hope you get some rain too 😎🌻✅
They're giants! Cause I keep feeding them fava beans 😂 Hope we still get some good rain, but also excited for the heat
Its like heaven❤I want to live in such a beautiful heaven❤
You have become a real farmer, lots of progress and learnings, well done. 😊
I usually soak beans for, more or less, 24 hours before planting. It works.
Thanks! I might try again, I love green beans :)
So glad you’re back. My best to you
What a bountiful garden, but I know how much hard work to get it that way. Your helpers are growing so fast.
Gardening is a hard but rewarding job. You are doing a fabulous job. Blessings from Canada 🇨🇦
Hi Lea - So happy to see you and your family. Thank you for the update!! Great job you and Maarten are doing. Excellent video!!
So inspiring,
I wish i could have this kind of life
I love Portuguese people ❤
Wonderful to see you back again and the family. Missed you guys and your farm is coming on beautifully. Your green house is certainly doing well. Have a lovely day.
The fava beans tops are actually edible and taste superb in a stir-fry!
Amazing watching you struggle to keep you plants healthy in the heat I struggle in the bitter cold of Ballarat Aust. Oh and our dog who loves to play zoomies. You all look wonderful.
The real heat has only just begun, but the garden is doing well so far :)
So happy to see how well things are going.
Please, please come back to your channel. We worry & miss you.
I’m hoping to get a video done for next weekend :)
The effort you have put in to the new video episode format is good. This episode was particularly clear and informative.
Thanks Jonathan :)
É muito bom para a horta ter joaninhas. Entre outras coisas, comem os pulgões das couves.
Beautiful video, you are growing an abundance of veggies and your babies are so cute!!
I know its a lot of qork but you really seem to be at one with it now. Not a struggle but a flow of tasks that create a home and food for you and your family. Nicely done!
Wonderful video, I love watching the plantings from seed, then to the garden. It brings such JOY!
Great video! Love the details you went into. So beautiful to see🇵🇹🇿🇦
Hi
I enjoy your videos it is relaxing to watch you tending your garden with your family.
This video was great, totally understandable if you're not filming so much with all the work you put into the homestead!
Turns out you can't do everything all of the time ;)
you guys are wonderful, love watching your videos ... lots of work but very satisfying to know you did it..
Lia the garden is looking good. Nice to see Puck is interested in helping out in the garden , she's learning a valuable life skill. Something you may want to try out is tying your tomatoes off using a figure 8 pattern it works well for me. Enjoyed your video as always. Keep up the good work.
He’s a lucky man. 😍
Puc looks just like her Daddy lol. Such a sweet girl 😊
Just stopped by to say; cute dress, cute basket. I'll watch the video later.
Great video as always and lovely to see you all looking so well
The 🐗 boards are terrible
sooner or later they destroy your garden to eating your food
You have a beautiful family keep the good work
Loving the new style of your vlogs
Thanks!
Great video! Very relaxing. You all look wonderful and your garden looks beautiful!
One redhead, one blond. Could you be any luckier! So sweet. I try to keep a journal also, but I lose focus by midsummer.
Really enjoyed the video today and oh my how beautiful the children are. You all look wonderful!
Enjoyable video..Are you teaching your children Portuguese language as well as your native language and English. I wish I had learned another language early i n life. Great garden.
Oh i ❤ that basil

Everything and everyone is growing so well booming and blooming
I enjoy watching your beautiful videos
I love abundanceplus!! it has so help me with my new place.
I need to borrow your little helper to collect rocks,, when I bought my house,, I became stone rich 🙂
Was actually wondering what Maatin was doing,, and on the edge of my chear for any digger news...
We finally got the part we need, now the mechanic just needs to find time in his schedule🤞
A pull down clothes line would be handy for drying herbs.
It would :)
frank, honest, true 🧚
I love to see you being affectionate with Puk. Make the most of it. Speaking as an empty nester.😢❤
Loved this video ; such an abundance !!
Greetings from sunny California! ☀
As I was watching you work in your garden, after seeing the clip of the wild boars, I thought that it might be wise to put up a sturdy fence around your vegetable garden to keep wild animals out. Those boars will mow all your hard work down in just a matter of minutes! 😢
The garden is already fenced :)
Gracie MacaA
The wild boars or ( javali)they destroy everything even fences
Love your format!
Gracias
Lovely video Leah, I like the new format, well done.
Thanks!
Have always appreciated your willingness to experiment and learn as you go. It is obviously paying off. The focus has been mainly on the garden but now you are bringing the same insight to your personal rhythms and well being. Whatever format works for you will work for us onlookers. Greetings from Canada.
Thanks :) It's been a learning process not to overwork myself as that is a tendency of mine. But I'm liking this new rhythm so far
you look awesome..rested
Ik heb weer genoten van je video, zo een mooie plek om te wonen en te werken, gezellig met de kindjes erbij ze kwebbelen zo leuk tussendoor, leuk ook samen die bonen uit te pellen.

Night temps being over 10C, wow, in Texas now it's lucky if we get a 17C overnight.
Love seeing you and the kids again!
Beautiful

I don't know what you have changed in the vlog, I feel the ease and calmness from it. Maybe you are more relaxed? Good job!🎉❤
