Good info for new Tacoma owners. I personally kept the factory Trd off-road wheels with 265, 75 16’s….no rub ever even at full articulation with the wheels turned.
285/75/16 with +10 no rubbing with castor forward within spec. More negative offset than that they will rub.
I have a 3rd Gen TRD Sport, 17 inch rims. I'm kinda partial to the factory rims, but I do have TRD center caps to sweetin them up a little bit.
I have the same truck you just traded for your new one.....same black rhino stadium wheels.......used Bilstein in front to level the truck (about 1.5 inches or so) and did nothing to the back. tires are BF Goodrich ko2 265/75/R16. I followed your lead back then and still love the look and setup. So far, no rubbing issues at all that I have been able to detect. thanks for all the good advice on wheels and tires!!!!

I just replaced my stock Firestones that came with my 2020 Tacoma today. I had 40k miles and them and they were pretty much played out. So, it was time to replace them.
I went with the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 265/70R16 and man, were you right!
These tires are so much smoother driving than the stock tires and they look totally badass on my rig.

I have a 6 inch lift with 35 inch nitto mud grappler! N method race wheels with beed locks
On my trd sport i went to a 17x9 from 17x7.5 +1 offset, even with a +1 offset the wheel being wider put the stock tires 265/65-17 just outside the fender flairs, didn't have to modify or remove anything, no lift and no rub

Good tutorial, although some still won't get it, they're content to squeeze a larger tire in the well without considering ramifications. Like positive and negative wheel offset, control arm space, etc.
Yup…just because it can fit in the wheel well doesn’t necessarily mean it fits😬

Huh imagine that changing wheel offset causes issues with the tire clearance. Makes me glad I like to leave the stance factory. But the factory look doesn’t bother me. Son did a 2-3” lift on his JK so he could mount 35s. Think it has a better ride than factory course the Metal Cloak parts were over $4k in 2017. He worked in an alignment shop while in school so he did the install.
Ran 285/75r16 on a +12 off-roaded no rub. Now I'm on 35 and have trimmed and cut.

3 inch lift with 0 offset and 285/75/16 tires work just fine. Minor rubbing when turning super hard but nothing that causes damage.
For me…any rubbing under any circumstances is unacceptable 😐
I went with 265/75/R16 Toyo MT's on Fuel wheels with -9 offset and I have zero rub issues. On a side note though, on the 26th I get my Demello Off-Road bumper put on which requires some cutting because it is a full bumper, so the future is looking good.

@@RobMotive Well, small lift too. 2.5 on the front and 1 on the rear. However I did underestimate the constant weight on the rear with the bed rack and roof top tent so I have some OME leaf springs and OME shocks being put on it on the 23rd which is a 2" kit. But yeah, no problems on the front. I haven't done any crazy off-roading yet, just some mountain trails, but no problems.

@@RobMotive Yeah, without the lift there's no way. In fact, even with the 2.5 lift on the front and 1 inch on the rear, those 265/75/R16's are the biggest you can go without having to start chopping stuff. 31.8" is what they come out to. The factory tires are 30.2".
So for an SR5 with no lift, the biggest with no rub would be a 265/70R/16 or 265/75/16?
The former.
Both will work a 265/75r16 will NOT rub with a wheel of +4 or greater.
Gents, thoughts on going from the stock TRD OR +25mm wheels to 0 offset wheels while increasing to the 265/75R16?
Stock wheels are 17x7 +30mm, TRD Pro come in 16x7 and 17x7 +4mm. Going to a -10mm offset with a 16x8 is putting a wheel that is 25.4mm wider another 14mm further out than what Toyota will put in a TRD Pro. So, take half the 25.4mm and add 14mm and it's ~27mm further out. The math doesn't work as the swing gets too wide on that combination. There is a better option with less offset for similar looking wheels from another manufacturer.

I want to go with the Falken Wildpeak A/T 3W 265/70R 16 but put them on my stock Tacoma wheels which I believe have no negative off-set. I also have the front mud flaps on currently.

Rob... Are stock rims from a TRD version of a Tacoma the same width as those for a stock SR5? I sure hope so, I was able to pick up a set of used TRD rims that were in excellent shape to mount the highway tires that were on my Tacoma when I bought the truck. Three days after I bought the truck it snowed here in Colorado so I went to Big-O and got some M&S tires and kept the highway tires as they still had almost new tread on them. I just had Big-O swap my M&S tires and rims the other day with the highway tires and TRD rims. It seems a bit quieter in the cab with the highway tires. Both sets of tires are 245R 75 16's so I hope there won't be any rubbing.

285s with no rub is possible. Need closer to 0 offset. Plenty of people run 285s with no rub.

@@RobMotive Your answer doesn't make sense for the original question. 70% of 265mm is 185.5mm which is the sidewall height (7.3"). The sidewall height on EVERY 265/70 tire is the same regardless how big the wheel is. How can you get "extra tire wall" when math says you can't?

255 r16 75s should fit with a - 10 offset
