Guys a lift will not ruin your Tacoma, don't be cheap
I know, I hate how people say that lol. Literally if you stay at a 2 inch lift, you're golden.. 2inch front, 1inch rear. Don't have to change anything really.
@@Nintaco19so do you suggest not leveling at all? Whats the solution ?
AND it saves me from smacking my head on my truck everytime I get in it
2006 1 1/2" rear 2" front no problems 16 years
Whats the right way of leveling your tacoma?
Spacers or lift kit?
Hey Rob, I lifted my 2021 Off Road with a TRD Pro suspension. I added Eibach Pro lift springs to front and Icon AAL to the back. I’m running Cooper XLT 285/75/16. The ride is SO much better than it was stock. Day and night difference. It dampens bumps much better, corners better and is more planted to the road then before. Also, the Pro suspension fixes the Taco lean!
Sounds like you have a good setup 👍
I wonder if I could apply this to my 2006 prerunner 🤔
What was the cost to do this?
@@justice4all32would also like to know
@@RobMotive what size tires Rob?
i was just thinking of removing my leveling kit and going back to stock height. glad i saw this
I have a 2021 as well. I 100% agree with you on the ride with 16's. Great set up.
Ive saved my 09 h3 from the road salt, it now has 53k no rust, lucky I had it rustproofed and undercoated when I purchased it, left the suspension. alone and went with larger tires, Im glad I went this route, the quality of the ride means a lot too me, thanks for your awesome videos.
That’s great! Sounds like a good decision all around to me👍
Great point Rob. I did the same thing, except I have the 265/70/17 size and I did a very similar video about the lift and tire size. Your truck looks great that way, as does mine too. Except i still have the side bars. I personally just like the way it looks. It has no other function otherwise. Great points here. 👍
After removing the steps I realized they were just in my way😬
@@RobMotive oh yes they are in the way, lol. I’ve nailed my shins a few times. But still, I like the way they look. So I’ll stick with them for a while.
I was considering a 3" lift because I wanted the look, but now I agree I really don't want to ruin the ride, mine is an off road, but I will leave the side steps on to keep down on door dings, but thanks you saved me about $1500
A 3 inch lift will not ruin the ride unless you get a cheap lift
Even a six inch lift you'll b good just don't go with cheap and have it installed right ! You will be good I have had many lifted vehicles the only time you sacrifice the ride quality is when you don't do it right and or try to be cheap
2inch front, 1inch rear. You'll be happy.. doesn't change the ride.
@@jeep1987what kit brand do you recomend? I saw a rough country 3.5 lift kit going for $800
With your experience from moding Tacomas , my opinion is you nailed it on every single detail 100%.
Thanks 👍
Really solid advice. Thanks for taking the time.
Nice I’m going to that to my truck I was thinking of lift it but I just ganna do the bigger tires thank you
thanks for the advise. i just got a tacoma and the first thing i wanted to do was lift. but i will consider maybe taller tires instead
Little math here, if the tire is 1 inch taller then the truck only rides 0.5 inches higher. You only get half of the increased diameter.
That is a true statement 👍
Great video. I think I’m going to do the same thing when I get my truck
So far I’m loving it👍
Thank you Rob, I have a black 2021 Tacoma 4x4 Offroad and I like your tire option better. Keep it up with the good work. 😎
Thanks Jesse👍
Great looking truck! I bought method 701 wheel that are 16s with a 0 offset with the same tires as yours and they look great. There is not really any poke but they look good. Thanx for the advice.
Great video. Nice and simple. Thanks.
Thanks Rob , sorry if this is a dumb question but if I just want to load about 1200lb in the back every once in a while, would you recommend the old man emu +330lb leaf springs? It says they add a 2.75” lift , so also some shocks and struts that say they also add around 2.75”? Plus some bigger tires , thanks for the advice on the -10offset rims . Thanks for the video!!
I think I’m going with this setup on my 21 TRD off road. I had a 3” OME lift on my 2nd gen Tacoma with aftermarket UCA’s. The ride was fine but couldn’t get rid of the squeaking from the uniballs and the CV axles didn’t last very long with the increased angle.
This is a good alternative I think. Shouldn’t harm any of the factory parts👍
Good information, this is the problem folks never take into consideration or I assume so,is whenever you make any changes, bigger tires, wheels it affects the stock components. Have a great day
@@scotmetcalf2745yes you are right but it takes such little work to get it all adjusted in people just don't know what they are doing then wonder why it rides rough haha
Great video. I agree 100%. I have a 2020 TRD off road and like the stock 16” wheels. Just had a set of BFG A/T 265/75R 16 KO2s installed. They look great and no noticeable difference in drive quality but they look incredible. Your truck looks great!
Thanks for the post. With your setup, did you have to do an offset or just put those tires on your stock wheels?
Great video! I’m still in my 2012 off road. When I do buy new I will leave it alone! I kept breaking leaf springs so added a leaf. Truck looked like a friggin hot rod! So then did 1.75 billstein in the front and new bilsteins in the rear. The truck rides tougher than anything I’ve ever driven and I’ve had TJ jeeps! Also running 265 75 16’s but they’re E rated which doesn’t help.
Thanks for the feedback, Rob. I was going to lift etc. etc. etc. -- then drive her from east to west coast, but now you've convinced me not to, and if anything, build her up once I reach my off-roading logging roads destination in BC instead of doing it here just because I want to spend money I think I have!
Appreciate the realism
Much Love from Canada
Thanks for the tip
Man Rob killer wheels and tires and I bought the exact same truck as you in 4x4 and love you share your experience negative or positive! Save someone from investing a shit ton of money only to lose truck components and ride. Have a great day
Thanks Scot. Happy Thanksgiving🍗
I have an eibach leveling kit on my sr5 4 cylinder along with 31" off road tires and it rides so much better, plus it does great on the trails
I also removed side running boards. Makes it look better & looks higher. I too never used them & rub'd legs each time I got out
I have a similar setup. Except I have the 4runner trd pro 17in wheels. I believe they're a +4 offset. 265/70r17 k02s. And you're right. It definitely puts the lift on the back burner. Especially on a daily driver. My truck actually rides noticeably better than with the stock tires. It's way less bouncy over bumps. Makes me not want to mess with the suspension for now. And couldn't be happier with the k02s. People say they're terrible on wet roads. But, in the almost 2 years I've had them, I haven't had any issue in all types of rainy conditions. Plus they're fantastic in snow.
Can’t beat stock for the best ride! Hard to find a good balance 🤔
My Tacoma has the 17” wheel. Would the 265/70R17 tire work well with it without rubbing?
@@lawsonolbrych4179 yes
I do I have this exact set up! I like it... I do have side steps for the kids to easily hop on and out but overall it works. I have a brush guard that's increases the rake so I might throw on a leveling kit since I'm not hauling any trails with the truck. What do you think?
Looking at getting a stage II spring pack for out back because I run a 400lb DCU contractor cap and all my work tools when I'm not towing so I'm hoping the ride will sit and feel the way it does with the factory springs and no weight out back.
I knew we thought alike Rob, I’ve had my SR since February and put the same exact 265x75x16 with KO2’s with a -10 offset. I also have the metallic gray. The only reason I went with running boards is because I didn’t like the underbody showing like it does but the more I look at yours the more I like that it looks lifted and it looks a little more clean. You just may have convinced me to remove my running boards. Great video as usual!
Bob, you are a man of great taste! Gotta say, I love the look without the steps👍
@@RobMotive thanks Rob!
Loose the predator tube steps , my 22 Tacoma Sr access cab 4x4 came with them, took them off after six months they just get in my way, 5 mins. Poof gone truck looks better and cleaner without them.
I lifted my tacoma 2” with bilstein 5100. The 5100 are good shocks supposedly better on road than the stock ones wit 375/70/17 tires. Couldnt be happier
Nice👍
Rob actually if the new tires are 1.1” taller you raised the truck approx .5” as you have half above and below the center of the wheel.
@@donthesheek no, the tire is 1.1" taller in diameter. Which means the lift is half that.
Was able to comment the same thing. Well said
That looks sweet like that. My wife's Limited has 265/60 R18. I was thinking 275s and slight offset for summer and factory wheels back on and under for winter. On my Superduty I had a set of 315s that were huge on 17s. It looked super cool. The down side was mileage and they would throw road splash on both sides of my mirrors and up the sides of the truck. They also made my windows dirty resulting in scratched glass when rolling them down. My steering wheel also needed more effort to turn. Big huge tires look cool but they destroy your paint and shorten the lifespan of bearings and suspension parts. I am going to first try your approach on hers. Its hers and I don't want her to be unhappy. The other down side is aggressive tires are super noisy on the highway.
Great vid. I’m gonna take over my lease, and was thinking of what mods to make. This is the food for thought I need
Thanks for the reply. Got another question what about the sensors all sides
I just leveled my TRD Offroad and the shocks where upgraded made my ride better. Have the TRD shocks with the TRD leveling kit. Thanks for the info on the tires.
Hi cool man, I love my 18 model but the tires are about wore out. Fixing to put a set of BFG all terrain k20. Mine is a TRDOFF Road. Tell me more about that cool name.
Is that the trd lift kit?
@@krazylilman09 yep! Went to the Toyota dealership and had the TRD lift kit put in. Got a new Sincere for it as well as the TRD pro grill
@@rickeycooley9139 yep I have. 2018 TRD Offroad too. Really enjoying it. Got a lot of plans for it.
Hey rob I have a leveling lift 2” up front but it seem to look higher like chin up. I got a 1.5” rear block . Will this give it more of a leveling stand ? Thanks
I went with Rough Country front coil over 3.5" Suspension Lift Kit with Vertex Reservoir Shocks in the front and 3" in the rear with and as for tires 265x70x18.9 -12 rides smooth and no rubbing
Nice👍👍
I have a 2017. Put 285/75 R16s on it. No rubbing whatsoever. Fit fine. Putting a 3 front 2 rear lift on this weekend. Cost 270$. Probably go up to 35s next new set of tires and won’t be a problem.
Great video Rob! I stayed fairly stock on my 2020 OffRoad and only switched the shocks to Bilestein 5100’s all around. Set the front shocks at 3rd notch for 1.2 lift for level stance. Better than stock now with this set up. Super smooth ride, no lean on curves or nose dive on heavy braking.
Sounds great to me👍
Sounds like a great setup ! I'm lookin to upgrade my 4Runner
Would you say the 5100’s are better off-road than the stock shocks? Thank you in advance!
Yo I'm looking for some help with a 5100 setup, could use some advice! Bought a set front and rear, front is adjustable 0-2.5, rear is set at 2.5. Looking for just a 1-2" lift max to not have to mess with any cv joints or anything. Also got an AAL, trying to see if I need different rear shocks? Or skip the aal? Confused on how much lift this will actually give.
@@heyyall9037 In my personal opinion yes, they are beefier than stock.
Great advice, more should listen to this advice unless you're going full-on off roading setup.
Yes,bthe stock plush ride is worth way more to you. The tire size upgrade using hybrid off road treads looks great.
Trim about 2" off that huge front lower valance plastic (the snow plow chin). Remove it but it can look bare and odd. Personal preference I don't like the look With OR Without the valance. The only real purpose of the valance is saving some buffeting at highway speed, it doesnt really matter. So followed lines, taped, sharpied and cut it with the electric grinder, tapered it and sanded. Looks stock.
Also those super long stock front mud guards....take those off OR swap the front out with Husky guards, which are a good 2" shorter. Rears OEM and Husky are very similer. Not necessary to change those.
Finally de-rust the rear drums and paint them with rustoleum semi-gloss black. Also paint the front calipers along with the inner section of the front rotors (only the part that shows when the wheel in on). Plenty of videos on the subject. However I recommend good taping and don't use spray. Use the brush-on can of rustoleum. Do a few coats and let it dry well. It'll be thicker and last longer. Don't paint the mating surfaces to the hub and the wheel. Looks great and doesn't cost much except a Saturday of time.
All these little changes makes the stance look good and clean, while saving money and not wrecking the ride. Or having those spacers wreck your shocks, bottoming out and touching the arms. If its your everyday truck, and doesn't see any off road. With occasional Lowes and household duties. Guys dont spend 1000's, save your cash for fun stuff like vacations and trips. This is just a normal guy setup.
Aloha and good morning Rob 🙏. Your analysis are valid to recommend and reconsider the lift option for the Tacoma or the Gladiator. The cost to using and to install are enormous. Plus, you stated earlier your prior video that the ride and fuel costs will be rough and expensive. Plus, you stated that it's not very smart to damage your vehicle in doing off-road activities as the repairs are too expensive. Many consumers are benefitting from your wisdom and experience with your humble honesty for not lifting the Tacoma or any other vehicles itself. Tremendous video Rob. 😇😎🥳🤠💥💫👌🤙👍🤜🤛🙌🙏👀
Thanks Ryannew. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
I have a 3” lift, 33”s upper and lower uca, cab mount chop, rear lift springs, 1.25” wheel spacers, trd Baja suspension lift with 1” top plate spacer. I drive my taco like I do my RzR 1000 xp .
After re gearing my gas mileage is about the same, and 3 years after the mods I have had zero issues so far.
I drive it hard and fast, then put her away wet
I went with 275 75 16 on my 2nd gen. It did rub when I was turning hard with a dip in the road but only very slightly on inner fender liner. I went with this size because I would have a spare same size. Tried some Cooper tires from Pep Boys. 3 out of 4 were out of round so I kept the good one as a spare. I had to just about force the Pep Boys manager to come take a ride with me sir and you will see why I am not buying these tires. After one ride he agreed and refunded my money. I got to keep the spare for my troubles.
That’s a bummer! But good that they did give you the spare 👍
Side steps are not there only to step into your truck. I use mine to access my roof when loading the roof rack or when washing the truck.
Great vid. Thank you. But If you put your new set of wheels next to your old ones and they are 1” higher than the old then the circumference is equally 1” more. However the radiance of the wheel is half of the circumference. So you gain 1/2” of lift
LOVE THIS VIDEO !!! VERY HELPFUL !!
Looks Good! Even better with 5100's! The stock Hitachi shocks don't cut it for me! On on!
Maybe it’s different with my runner. But the ride is too soft. So I want to make it a little bit more firm a little bit more tight. I’ve been researching that happy middle ground. I’ll probably go one and a half and one. 4 mm offset, 265, 70 17’s. Hopefully I’ll find that spot. I’m looking for. Great video. Good information.
thank you! That’s a nice stance! I don’t own a Tacoma… yet… in the market as I type. I don’t want a lift kit but I really like the fact that all you need are bigger tires. Looks really good! I think you also sold me on getting an sr5 instead of spending more in a trail ready truck. I’m never going to go off-roading but I still like the look. Make fun of me if you want haha idc. But thanks for the video
The only lift I plan to do on my 20 TRD is a rear add a leaf for towing and a body lift if I can find one which is the main goal since it makes maintenance and cleaning considerably easier.
I put bilstein 6112 in front, at 4/3 setting and 5100 struts and shocks on the same truck, mine is a 22 model. It rides great with the 6112's. Better than stock ride. I was surprised .
Great that you found a good setup 👍
I've been heavily considering doing this on my 21' Sport, 6112's up front and 5160's in the rear.. I don't really need them, but thought it would put the truck at the perfect height on 265/70 17's. What kind of wheels/tires you rocking? any pics?
Great share as usual. Thank you!
Thanks for watching 👍
I was planning on lifting my 2021 SR v6 but I ordered 265 75 16s I'm going to put them on and I can lift it later if I want too
Good information thank you very much. I’m leasing my 2021 sr5 and anxious to see how it will handle the Ohio lake affect winter with stock tires,as for height I would like to lower it but with leasing I’m sure there’s things I can’t do , but the dealership offered me a lift kit and the stock “running boards are useless with a 10 1/2 work boot.I’m a machinist and I could definitely fabricate something to drop the boards down but would that be a problem with the leasing, again thank you very much. Be safe and happy holidays.
Think of it like renting an apartment. You can't do anything but live there. You can't alter it anyway because you don't own it. now, if you trade it in before the lease is up then you can do whatever you want just like a buy.
nah 6in lift here i come!!!!
I've got a '21 Tacoma TRD Pro with the stock TRD Pro suspension and stock TRD Pro 16" wheels (Gulf coast version of the wheels, which is apparently different from everywhere else but I _think_ the offset is the same at +13mm, about an inch less "pokey-outty" than what Rob has here). I have 265/75R16 Falken Wildpeak AT3 tires on it. They measure just shy of 32" diameter top to ground at 35 PSI with the truck on level ground. They actually DO rub, but ONLY if I go over a bump with the steering at full lock.
I agree, it's a great size tire, and I wouldn't go any bigger because you'll likely start a chain reaction of modifications to make everything work right.
I've read somewhere online that 285/75R16 tires would fit a stock TRD Pro, but my experience distinctly says "no."
God advice 👍
Hey Rob!! Just found your videos. Just bought my first Tundra (2021 DC SR5 4x4). Do you know of any issues installing a 2 or 3" levelling kit creating any steering issues? Or good to go? TIA
Congrats on the new truck. Watch the angle of the CV Axles and make sure you get a good alignment 👍
nice video ! i have my truck stock as well, i just changed my wheels to 265/70/r17 trd pro 4 runner wheels , wildpeaks at3 love the set up . your truck looks clean
Thanks 👍
I have a 2021 SR5 and I like the ride so I’m not going to raise it I still have the stock tires but I will get the same size you have when I need new
i love my 3 1/2 inch R.C full suspension lift yes it dose ride a little stiffer but next summer im going with the 6" vertex lift
Awesome 👍👍
eBay all day for those emblems. I agree on the tire size to gain some "lift". I'll be doing that once my stock tires are ready to be replaced.
Good advise, Thank you...
Great video, thanks! Any change to the speedometer with those larger tires? My TRD Off-Road comes standard with the 265/70R16 so the 75s would be exactly 1" larger in overall diameter. Just curious if you found the Speed was a tick off?
Yup, anytime you go to a larger diameter tire it will affect the speedometer 👍
For your needs I think you nailed it. Also good advise on the in’s and out’s of doing a significant mod of lifting the truck.
I finally got my (all new design last year) Toyo Open County AT3’s installed 2 days ago on my 2020 TRD Sport DCLB 4x4. I went with one size up from stock to 265/70R17’s. Love the tires! First set of A/T ‘s ever. Always ran Michelins LT M+S. First impressions was it finally looks like a truck and feels like a truck. No rubbing at all.
Only one last thing would make it perfect is changing the factory wheel offset to something like yours. The -10 offset is the sweet spot for those trucks. Either I consider a wheel spacer, after market wheel or the Toyota 4runner TRD pro wheels with a -4 offset. I really want the T4R TRD wheels.
For now the 2020 sport wheels are okay. The new tires at least really make a huge difference visually for the better. I also like the factory rake as I do haul stuff.
Nice! Sounds like you just need to decide how to achieve the offset you want👍
Question, are those rims/wheels 16X7 or 16x8 at -10 offset?
Completely new to this but really enjoyed your video and love your setup. Looking to move from Ford Edge to Tacoma. So here's the stupid question (like I said, just learning about this). To get your -10 offset do you buy wheels with that offset or do you add spacers or something else? Thanks for your patience.
Hey Robert! As they say..."No question is stupid"! Ask away! You can go either way actually (to move the wheels/tires out). However, I'd go with a negative offset wheel to achieve the goal👍
Where the ride quality is lost the most is in the loss of down travel. Many lift as high as they can, when the wheel can’t drop independently of the truck, also putting the geometry at a disadvantage in the initial stroke of the shock/spring combo all causing a causing a harsh ride (the chosen shock and spring can can have an effect no doubt, but the single biggest issue is loss of down travel). Secondly unsprung weight is a large factor on both ride quality, handling and overall performance. I use a 285/70 17, load C that is lighter than a 265/75 16 load E. I give up absolute height (about 2” upfront over stock) for immaculate ride using extended travel fox coil overs so that my truck is sitting just over halfway above the middle of the travel. Truck rides like a well controlled Cadillac on the road and a sports car that loves to be pushed in the dirt.
I will stipulate that the truck in stock form is far more capable than what most people will ever use, buy it drive it and adjust slowly. Do just wheels and tires as you suggest. The look is great ride should be pretty darn good and it’s much more cost effective if you don’t need or want that extra height or capability.
Your videos are awesome!! Thank you Rob. Be safe
Thanks and thanks for watching 👍
@@RobMotive always a pleasure
I prefer OME heavy kit works excellent on every Toyota I own, improves the ride and handling
Hi Rob, Truly enjoyed your perspectives, Less money, no ride sacrifice, great look. I have a 2020 TRD Offroad LONGBED, 16" stock. Any down sides, or different advice you would offer? Thanks.
I love this setup. I wouldn't change a thing👍
Good points. I was going to purchase some Nerf Bars, but decided to just remove my existing OEM ones instead. The truck looks naturally higher without doing anything else. I'll sell my OEM running boards and use the money towards a new GMRS radio for the truck
I "MIGHT" get a 2" inch block lift kit for the front when I install some new 285 65 R17's. I'm calculating that lifting it 2" in the front will ensure I have wheel well clearance, and it should level out the truck as well.
Wonder if the new 285 65 R17's will touch plastic when installed without the 2" lift blocks?
I bet they will with severe turns thru lower parts of the road 😬
So, cvorrect me if I'm wrong, but if your older tires are 1 inch lower then your total increase in height would be 1/2 inch, or one radius. Yes?
Great video. My 2020 AC 2.7 I put a 2/1 front/rear block lift. Looks much better NO fuel difference. Changed tire size. 245/75/16 - 265/75/16 & LOST probably 2mpg. I would highly recommend staying stock tire size on Tacoma. More wear & tear on front end / brakes & loss fuel economy. LOOKS GREAT but overall stock tire size IMO is the best... Sadly enough I love the stance of 2/1 lift & 265's and I can afford the cost so why not
Yup…there’s always a trade off.
Good information greetings from the super ancient megalithic antediluvian city of TIAHUANAKU BOLIVIA 🇧🇴 thanks for posting
Thanks for watching 👍👍
I'm thinking in lifting my Chevy Avalanche by two inches. I'm already running 265/75 R16's, they are 31.5" overal but i'm looking at 285/70 R17's which are 33's. So an 3.5" overall lift but I'm wary of the stress on the transmission. both should have the same ride conform due to similar sidewall but potholes should be less noticable.
Happy Thanksgiving Rob, have a great Thanksgiving day with your family
Thanks Juan. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
-10 offset is wat my wheels are and imo are perfect poke as well. 260/70/r16 KO2's with 2"inch medium duty OME SUSPENSION LIFT. (OME struts, shocks, leaf spring pack and added OME UCA'S) Drives absolutely amazing. Much better than stock to me even
Very nice👍
Highly recommend Bilstein 5100’s for front and back to remain in the stock ride.
Good pointers 🛞
If the tire is 1.5 inches taller you gain half that in lift our .75 inches..
All great info as most of newer truck owners don't really off road seriously...
Interesting. I just bought a brand new 2023 Tacoma TRD Off-Road last Friday. This last Monday I went over to one of our local off-road shops to start looking at mods. I ended up ordering some Bilstein 5100 shocks, MaxTrac 2.5" spacer kit, Fuel 16" wheels with a -6 offset with some Toyo MT's in yup, 265/75/R16. The lift is minimal and more for leveling but I will see a small increase in height. I stuck with the 265/75's because I don't want to ruin the ride but I will be taking the truck off-road fairly often and wanted the benefits of a little bit extra height and the benefit of a more aggressive and capable off-road tire. Stuff should come in and get installed on the 14th so we'll see how I like it.
Great honest video, thanks for sharing.
Please let us know what you think after the lift👍
If you want better mpg, use 235/85/16” tires. Same height, narrower thus pulls less air and gives better grip.
Will a 2023 Tacoma 4x4 fit a 18x9-12 with 265/70r18 on stock suspension
Awesome video Rob, can you explain the -10 offset? Is that from the tire you buy? Or does some kit make that look/adjustment?
Check out tiresize.com. They do a great job explaining it👍
@@RobMotive great site answered my question. One last thing, was your speedometer effected much with the bigger tire changeout?
Not too much with these. If you go with the popular 285/70R17’s you’ll be 3-4 mph off at higher speeds.
I have the same question
I just lifted my TRD-Off-road and love but now I need to change the needle bearing bc I have vibes now. I would suggest if you lift your truck with a whole new from and rear suspension that to do either add a leaf or a whole new leaf package so your truck is level.
Depends on how high you go I think🤔
I put 255/75/17s on trd pro wheels. Little more height, hurt the fuel economy a touch, but oh well. Truck handles like stock, looks better. Just select lighter rubber
Great info. I'm getting ready to put 265 75 R 16s on my "22 TRD OR Tacoma. Which wheels do you have?
Have a look: czcams.com/video/PV-WhE_MOGw/video.html
I’ve got a 3/2 leveling kit with 18x9’s with 285/65 Nitto’s on 2016 TRD Sport
Nice 👍
You can buy those emblem overlays for your steering wheel on ebay. About 15 dollars on average some a little more and some a little less.
Rob, thank you in advance for being my Guinea pig, I got same trim, same color, same year, keep the mods coming, some I'll copy some maybe I'll pass on but it's all good!
Lol! That’s the service I provide😁
Hey Rob, great video and I will no longer be spending my money on a lift kit! Question, does the wheel width matter if it’s 7’ or 8’ when it comes to rubbing? What wheel width did you get?
Here’s what I have: czcams.com/video/nNNWJFdY-xw/video.html
Rob you are 110% correct with the advice, the TRD concept is focused usually on nubes that don't understand the plus and minus of raising the truck. I think leveling the truck with spacers, in combination with taller tires gives a similar appearance at major cost savings.
Did you add spacers? And if so how many inches and how does it ride?
@@robdawg700 NO, I use an Eibach Suspension kit for that model BULLETPROOF!
@Robmotive, What size tire could you put on if my Tacoma came with a 17” wheel and not have rubbing? Im buying the Black Rhino Alamo Wheel to stay stock size.
265/70 with the same spec wheel as stock.
if you get a propper lift it wont kill your ride dont get spacers
Good info Rob. Tires and wheels do look great on the SR5. Previously you mentioned you liked the factory wheels. Why delete them? Did they not fit the new tires? I’m keeping my 2022 TRD Off Road stock as far as height and suspension is concerned. I added a set of Go Rhino RB 10 running boards. My wife needs a little help getting into the truck and I wanted a little side protection from door dings. They do look nice and don’t effect the ground clearance any. Are your tail gate letters metal or the ABS plastic? That’s a $200 mod from my dealer. I’ll just order a set online. I do like truck color. My truck is white. I like it though the Army Green is my dream color. Color options are limited when availability is so difficult.
The stock wheels were ok, I wanted something different. The tailgate letters on mine are a domed resin material.
Good job. !
with the bigger tires no need to lift . Agree!
I do have the 285/70/17 -5 offset
And they don’t rub and look great.
I do get asked if I lifted !
in fact, one day I parked next to a TRD pro stock and my sport look wider and bigger LOL
The guy with the pro was not happy !
Lol! That’s awesome! Love it😂
Hello, let me see some pics!
I love my lift, ride is 100% better than stock. Bilstien 6112 up front, UCAs, OME coils for the added weight of winch and bumper. 5160 in the back with Eibach AAL. The stock shocks (bilstiens on TRD OR) are budget shocks.
Truck measures 39” at the top of the fender well on all 4 corners now. the stock setup has the driver side lower than the passenger by about 3/8-1/2” depending on fuel load.
Sounds good👍
What's the effect been on your mileage? Thinking about going the same route with 6112's and 5160's on 265/70 17's (wild peaks)
@@user-ej1bq4bq2w get about 16 avg
The Tacoma rides rough anyhow. I have. 3 in front and 2 in back and I love the firm ride and I run 285/75/16s and it looks great
Hey Rob, yeah I think you gained .5 inches as that is half of your diameter increase. What ever it is it looks nice :). I asked my mechanic friend about the ride quality you are referring to and yes, low end lifts often reduce your ride quality. He said his boss had just had him install 19,000 dollars worth of lift kit on his raptor and the ride quality was amazing. He told me DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON YOUR LIFT. Spacers are garbage. Actual suspension lifts increase travel. After hours of conversation with him I started my information quest and ended up settling on Fabteck’s nicest 3 inch lift. New resi shocks and coils all four corners, new leaf springs, new UCA’S. Increase of travel front and rear to 10 inches. From what I have been able to learn from other professionals that install these systems, the ride quality should actually be better than stock, let’s hope. Kit has been on back order for three weeks and shipped today. Already have the wheels and tires waiting. Went with some bronze Icon compressor wheels 17 x 8.5 0mm offset and wrapped them up in some 285 70r17 BFG KO2’s. Can’t wait for it to get here. Oh, truck it’s going on is my 2020 Barcelona metallic red TRD off-road. It took over a month of research to establish wheel selection, offset, backspace, tire size. Happy to share what I have learned with anyone. Bout a 6500 dollar mod.
Sounds good. What are you doing about the CV axles? With that height, the angle change can cause damage.
@@RobMotive I too was concerned about this issue. I called Fabtech and questioned one of their technicians on this exact subject. What started it was me going through the parts list and not seeing any diff spacers included. I was informed that the diff spacers included by some other companies (not naming names) actually do more damage. These spacers only drop the front of the diff, essentially tilting it. This creates problems as the fluid can not lubricate properly out of level. To properly drop the diff one needs to also drop the back of it where it is bolted to the frame. Fabtech believes that this is actually more damaging than the angle created by a mere 3 inch height change. That is why they do not include them on the 3 inch kit. I was also assured that the angle would not create long term problems down the road. So as of this point I feel reassured enough to take it off of my possible problem radar.
I would disagree with them. The severity of the angle was severe enough to tear one of my boots and all of the grease spun out.
@@RobMotive well that’s not good. I will be joined by my mechanic friend for the install, I will ask him what he thinks about the angle. Fabtech includes a 5 year 60,000 mile power train warranty with this kit. For $3,900 they better have a few things figured out. I’ll be sure to let ya know if there are ever any problems.
Just something to be aware of. I wouldn’t mention it if I hadn’t experienced it first hand😬
Cool video! I always loved my trucks lifted. But as a contractor and as I get older, I like them stock. Hey, my truck is a 2006 with stock shocks and struts. Can you recommend the BEST shocks and struts for a 2006 Tacoma SR5 4 door (2 wheel drive)???? Thanks!
I’d go with Bilsteins.
I love the look of it . What is the tire size and brand ? Thanks
