  • Waterproofing a tub surround & preparing for tile is easy with ‪@HYDROBLOKCOM‬ 🔥🔥
If you've ever used cement board or hardi backer, this will be a nice treat to work with 😊
    🔧Tools & supplies🔧
Not too many tools needed for this installation 😁
    - Primary tool for cutting is a simple utility knife 👍
    - 3-4" putty knife
    - Corner putty knife
    - The sausage gun & 20 oz sealant is more effiecent
But standard 10.5 tubes work just as well 👍
    - Screws & washers
    - Valve seal
    - Pipe seals
    - Clean up wipes 😄
Here's the material list for what I used in this shower:
    5 sheets of Hydro-block board
    100 count screws & washers
    5 sausage tubes of sealant
    Valve seal
    2 pipe seals

    🌟Notching & Setting Waterproof Panels🌟
The easy part of this shower remodel 😊
    - Pay attention to the thickness of your specific tub flange
Many are a lot less thick than this Jacuzzi tub
    - The most efficient way to notch is to use a table saw
Set blade to thickness of flange (in my scenario its 3/8")
Also adjust height of blade for the height of your flange (mine was 1 1/4")
    - Remove the scrap cut piece
Hold on to this because we will be using it to finish off waterproofing at a later step 👍
    - Be careful with handling this, its easy to break off
Not a whole lot left of the board 😄
    - Whether you have shimmed out the back wall to allow board to meet tub deck, or notched the board like we did, apply a generous amount of sealant to tub flange
    - Oozing sealant from joint is a good sign 👍
    - To avoid snapping off of notch, keep first row of screws 6" off of tub deck
    - Set washers & screws so that they are slightly recessed into board
    Fasten screws every 12"
    - Cut out window
    - You can use a rotozip, utility knife, or oscillating tool
    - Anywhere two boards meet, apply a generous amount of sealant
    - Again, oozing sealant out of a joint is a good bond 👍
    - Save on fasteners by pinching both boards together with one washer
    - Use a putty knife to smooth out any excess sealant
    - Cut out window with an oscillating tool
    💫Side Wall Panel Installation💫
Now that the framing is all set up to align with existing wall, this will be a breeze 😃
    - Apply a generous amount of sealant on top of the tub flange
This application is for setting the backer board on top of the flange
    - Anywhere panels adjoin, use sealant
    - Apply a generous bead in corner before setting side wall panel
    - Push & set panel into sealant & tight to tub flange
    - Scribe cutting foam board is so much easier than cutting cement board 😄
    - First row of screws 6" off tub deck
    - Fasteners every 12"
    - For tub spout you can cut out with utility knife or spade bits
    - Locating a valve is easy with foam board
simply press board against board till you puncture & mark the board 👍
    - 4 1/2" hole for valve
    - This if you plan to install a valve seal later on (extra insurance)

Looks like a good system. I noticed you didn’t install a 2x at the seam to the existing - how is it joined to the existing tile wall?

Any reason why you don't put the board overlapping the flange on the shower head wall, but you put on top of it?

I noticed from your video that no wood blocking was installed for potential future grab bars. Unfortunately, foam backer boards alone are not designed to withstand the downward forces exerted by grab bars. I have conducted extensive testing on this issue, which you can view in detail on my channel in video E21. Installing wood blocking should be as standard and obligatory as installing electrical and plumbing systems-essential for safety and reliability. Stay safe!

I'm planning on a walking shower conversion and will be using the flexstone shower panels....do you think foam board will be ok? Instead of cement board or greenboard

What kind/brand of pants are those Steve? Unless it’s a well kept secret. Looks like they are ripstop and well build to withstand use and abuse. Been using Wrangler, similar model but they are super thin and break from all everyday washing. Off subject question I know 😜
