  • Waterproofing a shower can be done in many different ways but today I am showing you how to install the HYDRO-BLOK waterproof shower system. HYDRO-BLOK uses a closed cell XPS foam core and polymer modified cement coating on their shower pans and waterproof wall boards. This makes their shower pans and wall boards extremely ridged and 100% waterproof. It is installed using a waterproof joint sealant to join the panels together and to seal any screw penetrations in the board. Their drain fits seamlessly into their system and uses a mechanical ball seal to make the connection to your waste pipe. This installation was a breeze and I would definitely use it again for future shower build projects!

    Not sure what made you decide to get into plumbing. But your videos are a great reminder that a trades professional is defined by their skills and not their chromosome pair (XY) male.

    I've been following your bathroom renovation projects and appreciate the insights you share. I recently conducted a detailed exploration into the safety and installation practices concerning foam core backer boards, specifically focusing on the critical role of wood blocking for secure grab bar installations. Our findings highlight the potential risks and structural integrity issues that can arise from omitting wood blocking, even with the most reliable materials and techniques.
    Given the importance of safety and durability in renovations, I thought this information could be beneficial to your projects and audience. Incorporating wood blocking can significantly enhance the strength and safety of grab bar installations, a detail that's often overlooked.
    I'd be happy to share our findings and discuss further. Keep up the great work, and thank you for sharing your knowledge with the community!

      This is great, depending on the installation if the homeowner has any thought about grab bars we install blocking in anticipation of this

    No mesh tape needed on the vertical seams at the corner and also the horizontal seams between the two wall boards? I saw an old hydro book video which said to do this

      According to an updated installation guide it is not required. See page 4 under "Finishing Wall Board Installation", the PDF is here www.hydroblok.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/HYDRO-BLOK_Low_Profile_Pan_Installation_V1_6.pdf

    The only thing I don't like is that you have seams flying through the air I don't even like doing that in drywall I would put back their firebreaks or just trying to land them on vertical studs

  • @Whoreallyknows
    @Whoreallyknows Před 6 měsíci

    Seems really expensive.

    • @juzoli
      @juzoli Před 6 měsíci

      It is more expensive to have a leaking shower… Or, if you have a good contractor who really knows what he is doing, they might make it work with cheaper materials, but then you spend even more on their extra labor.
      For my own shower, I chose the Schluter system, which might be the most expensive option, even more than this. But overall I save a lot by having a leakproof shower which I trust, and by having an easy, quick installation where I just have to follow their rules using their products.
      And whatever I do, it is just a small portion of the bathroom renovation budget anyway, but if I screw this up, it can cause the most damage.

    • @Whoreallyknows
      @Whoreallyknows Před 6 měsíci

      @@juzoli all good points not sure why it has to be so expensive though. I’m a fan of the schluter system but I’m installing fiberglass now to cut costs :/

    • @juzoli
      @juzoli Před 6 měsíci

      @@Whoreallyknows Sure they could be cheaper, they certainly have a nice profit on this product line. And a similar competitor will eventually push down their prices.
      But they are good, and worth even that money.
      An experienced pro, who understands the system, might be able to replace elements of it with cheaper alternatives. But that experienced pro might also have an hourly rate which makes the cost of the material seem irrelevant, and use whatever he is comfortable with:)
      In the end, I chose this system, because there was a LOT of headaches about my bathroom reno. And it was nice to get rid of one of those headaches. No regrets. But it also fits my style in general, as with the money I save by DIYing, I like to use it to buy premium materials.
