How to Waterproof a Window in a Tile Shower

🌟Window Waterproofing🌟
Why windows were ever put inside a shower....I'll never understand 😆
First step, remove any excess foam sticking outside of frame
Be sure the vinyl or metal frame of window is revealed
You want the entire 1/2" board to embed against the window frame
Shim sides to maintain a consistent reveal
Anywhere waterproof panels meets each other, add a generous amount of sealant
Apply a generous amount of sealant against window frame
Add additional sealant on bottom wood sill to provide enough sealant to pitch the bottom waterproof panel
Oozing sealant at window frame is a good gauge for sufficient sealing
If you do not see it oozing out as you press against window, pull panel and apply more sealant
This is especially important for a bottom sill
Be sure sill will pitch towards shower
You do not want puddling against window
Cut any excess paneling & keep flush with main wall
Any bulging sealant at window frame be sure to flatten & pull away from frame
Same process goes for all sides of window
First apply sealant to wall panel
Add plenty of sealant to frame of window
Along with a generous bead on top of the new window panel sill
Apply generous amount of sealant over all screws & washers
Apply generous amount to all seams & sill of window
Feather out with a putty knife
It's not a bad idea to fully embed sealant over the window sill
you can also apply enough to pitch the sill further if needed 👍

Slanting widow sills for run-off (inside & out) sure helps prevent problems down the road, like carpenter ants, since they LOVE wet wood. 🐜
