  • The vintage toaster is one that my parents brought on our camping trips when we were kids. It was rusty. I soaked it in vinegar, cleaned it with a tooth brush. And gave it a coating of olive oil. Works good as new. The new one was made in China which I bought off of Amazon. They are both camp toasters. I cook on my Coleman white gas camp stove. They are both very different from one another. One is solid, and the other is cheaply made. You be the judge. I give you my winner of the comparison.

Thanks for the video! I didn't know that the old style even existed. Just bought one on eBay. Can't wait to check it out.

I use to use the wire type for years. Last year I discovered if you just throw your bagel or toast on a gas BBQ it works great. Get the first slide the darkness desired then flip it over, butter it and when the second side is done its perfect.

I have one of those vintage ones in great shape! Never used it, had it on a shelf as a decoration. I'm going to give it a try!

I have used both styles. Used the wire framed type for a number of years, takes lots of flame to get that diffusion pan radiant enough. The pyramidal type is what I’ve use for the last 10 or so. Found it in a thrift shop for a dollar. Less heat, quicker toasting and less fuel used. Can’t go wrong.

Just got one of the “good’ ones today- glad to see that it works so well!

Yup, me too! Found one at Goodwill for five bucks and it's even pre-seasoned with a great looking patina. Happy toasting!

Not sure if it matters much, but it appears you have the modern version assembled upside down. I'm shopping for one now, and all I'm seeing show the rim of the base turned down.

I'm going to try and find one of the older ones. Or build one out of an old cheese greater. It definitely works more efficiently, as it's over the satellite burner. The newer one is doing less with more BTUs

This is unique and useful. Because toast/bagels are important. Thanks.

The old one holds the heat better
I’ve used the new one it needs lots of heat

You need to crank up the heat

No comparison between the 2. I have had one of the cheaper ones and quit using it.
