      that 1940's toaster might actually be steaming those like you said the bread felt wet and you know heat goes thru both sides of the toaster even there is not a heating element but the metal on the outside so it could really be steam the only way to know is leave it open for a minute to see that maybe put some water on it since you love to experiment

    The 40s toaster is designed to flip the bread over when you open the flap. The bottom of the bread is supposed to slide out thus turning the bread over without touching it. As it did with the pop tart. That's why the sides are angled the way they are.

  • @knownbarkert6153
    @knownbarkert6153 Před 3 lety +6

    You were using the 40s toaster wrong.
    Whenever you open the doors, they're designed to open all the way so the toast slides down on it. So that way you can just close it again and it'll toast the other side that hadn't been toasted. Figured I'd help avoid you getting burnt! Love your content man!

    PopTarts: In the 1960s, Post adapted its process for enclosing food in foil to keep it fresh without spoiling-first used for dog food-to its new toaster-prepared breakfast food. Intended to complement its cold cereals, Post announced its new product to the press in 1963 before they went to market. Post called them "Country Squares".[4]
    Because Post had revealed Country Squares before they were ready to be put in the marketplace, Post's biggest competitor, Kellogg, was able to develop its own version in six months. The product, advertised by an animated, anthropomorphic toaster named Milton, became so popular that Kellogg could not keep up with demand.[5]
    Originally not frosted when first introduced in 1964,[6] it was later determined that frosting could withstand the toaster, and the first frosted Pop-Tarts were officially released in 1967. The first Pop-Tarts came in four flavors: strawberry, blueberry, brown sugar cinnamon, and apple currant.[5] As of 2021, there is a wider variety of Pop-Tart flavors, including hot fudge sundae, s'mores, raspberry, and cinnamon pretzel.

    1940's toaster vs 2021 toaster.. I bet in... 5.. maybe 10 max years, that 2021 toaster will be a part of someone's microwave, or a ladder, or be in a landfill somewhere. That 40's toaster will still work. That's why landfills and pollution are such big deals. Manufacturers (and via marketing... you) want cool, slick, shiny, feature rich, products. Not something that does one thing and will continue to do that one thing after you are dust. Also, with a simple electrical outlet timer and some practice, you have the same thing.

    Bagels are only meant to be toasted on the cut side. Also the reason it’s hotter coming out is because the moisture is being trapped on the back side of the bread against the metal wall. Could also explain why the toaster strudels filling tasted better. Not dried out.
    The 1940s toaster toasting just one side of the bread for a sandwich or bagel would probably be much better with chewier bread.

    The old toaster reminds me of a line in "Englishman in New York": "I like my Toast done on one side".
    Maybe that's the reason it only has a heating grate on one side.

    I think you should do the same test but reverse the order of toaster usage, because when it comes to the taste test portion you are typically getting a “fresher” result from whichever toaster was used last.

  • @mtg2697
    @mtg2697 Před 2 lety

    The old toaster was designed in such a way that when you open the door, the slice of bread should slide down the door which will turn the un-tossted side over, then by closing the door you will be able to toast the other side without touching it.

  • @MystLs
    @MystLs Před 3 lety

    The 1940s one has a better cooling solution for your toasted goods. They sit there on the side wall plates away from the heating elements, whereas the new toasters sit inside with the heating element barely sticking out the top. I think it's a great idea on paper, but the execution makes you have to toast each side separately. Also removing the toasted goods is much easier with the 1940s toaster without a tool, as you don't have to stick your fingers where the heating element is. The knowledge of heat rising, the items would cool down quicker with the 1940s toaster, but the new toaster would keep them nice a toasty for a longer period of time before you got to them.
