I'm planning to visit to complete my Balkan Countries this May after my cruises. I plan to stay 2-days in each country. Is credit card accepted in most restaurants or cash is needed? Also, where is the free walking tour? Did you make it up to the hill? Which Hostel did you stay in and do you recommend? Thanks for sharing!

We are traveling to Skopje, and not planning to bring any cash, would you say that we can get around with credit cards, or are cash a must?
I live in skopje and I think you should be fine with just a credit card. Do take a bit of cash though, just enough for one meal because you cant get any of the street food with card
you should have explained where you get your bus card and how you use it. What bus number? How much did it cost? OMG

@tatjanavelkova5814 No Tatjana, Slavs arrived in the Balkans 1000 years after the demise of the Hellenic Makedonian Kingdom. The name of the city was Ηράκλεια and indeed was founded by King Philip. It was the first capital of the Bulgarian Empire in 1015-1018. The fact that you just live in a city that was founded by the Greek Makedonian King does not relate to you in any way with the Hellenic civilisation.
According the international Prespa agreement, the correct name of the country is Republic North of Macedonia!!!

The country is 3000 years old, actually if not more. The first time we saw the name Makedonia was around 2800 BC, and it was part of the Hellenic Kingdom until the 900s when it was part of the Bulgarian Empire, 1400s part of the Ottoman Empire and during the Balkan wars it was split between Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Greece 🇬🇷 Motherland and a small part in Albania. The people residing in today's Republic of North Macedonia have no connection at all to the Hellenic Kingdom and its heritage!

So, no coincidence that it is officially seen as the "capital of kitsch" in Europe. Under ottomans until 1913, it never ubderwent enlightenment (something that happened only to Kosovo, Albania and probably Bulgaria) resulting no neoclassicism. As a result, they had to build neoclassical buildings in.. 2014. Which of course lead to kitsch

Slavs arrived in the Balkans in the 700s. 1000 years after the demise of the Hellenic Kingdom of Makedonia. This part of the Hellenic Kingdom of Makedonia is occupied by slavic populations for the last 1300 years and has nothing to do with the glorious history of King Alexander and Philip
