Oh boy! I have the MoFi with ATT but I'm having major issues with my speed. Can you recommend another carrier besides Visible?
Or suggestions on how to increase the speeds.
@@monicapalmer3884 I use both T-Mobile and AT&T and have been happy with them in the MoFi. If you call around to AT&T stores some will offer an iPad Unlimited Data Plan for $20/mo that works great in the MoFi. You may need an iPad to activate the SIM and you'll have to find a store that has it. Many of the staff don't know about the plan.

@@SeleTraining with the $20 AT&T plan is your MOFI getting around the data limit? AT&T works well where I am but I chose T-MOBILE since they guarantee 50 gigs unthrottled "streaming" for $50/mo, but I'd like $20/mo!!

@@SeleTraining yes sir, no prob at all. I just have some quick detailed questions as far as setup for this thing and gaming on ps4. Namely dealing with NAT/upnp settings and MTU settings. Is there any way at all to atleast be able to pull a moderate nat type 2 on this thing? I have ATT carrier and the sim4 model, dual yagis and an amp etc. I get -48dBm signal strength almost all the time. Quality jumps all over the place at times and I'm working on that part, but I would love to see an in depth setup for the 4500 for consoles. Its nice that it has so many in depth settings, but for someone not really familiar with it, it sure makes me miss the speed and ease of use and setup of my nighthawk m1, but alas, no TTL or I would soooo be using it instead of 4500. Thank u sir
@@unleasheth You may want to take a look at the Insty Connect. It has the TTL option and the menus are a bit cleaner and easier to understand. The antenna does a good job of auto selecting bands for you.
@@SeleTraining sweet, yeah I have been hearing alot about that one lately. I so wish I could do that at the moment but have so much money tied up into this setup: 4500 sim 4, dual Wilson yagis 75ohm , weboost home 4g amplifier 75ohm, 2 Wilson splitters since my amp is only 1 in 1 out and I want both antenna legs to be direct instead of split going to primary antenna leg which i gotta say I really really HATE that part as it seems they don't make a decent dual port amp 75ohm with 2 outs for a good price It seems u have to go 50ohm and spend a pretty penny just to get the dual out ports. I also had to buy the outside mast for antennas, the low loss coax lines, sma to coax adapters, and some good Klein pressure F connectors.
With that said, since we last talked I have learned im better off notband locking at all and let auto CA kick in. And I left TTL to Linux 64, so far so good. I took my XR500 router out of the pic and instead opted for a little netgear mesh router/repeater, which picks up the wifi from the bedroom where the mofi is and transfers it to the living room, where I setup the mesh router, then i hard lined from mesh router to a netgear switch. Then hard wired my devices from switch. The performance now, even without the amp, is phenomenal FINALLY after jacking with this shit for 2 years and having to learn it all from scratch.
The MoFi and the Yagi antennas should be 50 Ohm. You'll have signal loss if you use 75 Ohm. Sounds like you have a nice setup though.

@@SeleTraining Also.. thanks for the tip on Visible Wireless. I currently have 4 lines on AT&T w/caps (old family plan).. runs $175/mo. +/- before data overages. Visible w/Party Plan would be $100/mo. unlimited . So, maybe that is my double solution for both cellular for the family and to get the MoFi into the mix on an unlimited plan. Seems like some of your other subscribers have had luck with it. I'll let you know what I discover. Thanks again!
Yes but check it before you commit. Since Verizon is problematic that maybe for some people as well.
I have the Mofi Sim 4 for my home and RV. Love them. My sister has them now for her home and lake house. I use an Att ipad sim for the Rv, but I also have a Tplink Nano that I plug into the Mofi when I cant get Att. I connect that to my old grandfathered Verizon plan. That gives me coverage thru the camper and keeping my sim in my phone. Works great. Saw you on Big Truck Big RV.

Thanks for your response to my other comment. Here are a few bits of info for the MoFi 4500 4G SIM7 LTE Router from Amazon (same device you have your Amazon link to). It did come with the SIM adapter (adapter for nano and micro) and a SIM ejector tool. The cell phone antenna SMA connectors are female, but the wifi SMA connectors are male (not sure if the SIM 4 was the same). Mine has a GPS antenna connection (SMA female) on the front side (same side as the USB port) even though there was no mention of GPS in the description. I have not checked to see if the GPS works yet. There are two stickers on the bottom of my SIM7 version. One says SIM4 and the other says SIM7 so they must be reusing and upgrading the old versions. I have confirmed band 77 works on it. You must be helping them with sales as the SIM7 now shows out of stock at Amazon (just bought mine a few days ago). Thanks.
Good info. The connectors on the SIM4 are all the same so it looks like they changed it on the SIM7 to avoid getting those mixed up. There is a separate GPS version of the SIM4 but I don't see that for the SIM7. Perhaps they included GPS in the standard model SIM7. My subscribers are viewing the MoFi over 5000 times per month on Amazon and buying over 50 MoFi per month so they are definitely benefitting from my videos. I'm sure many more are purchased through other links as a result too. However, I have yet to get them to send me a SIM7 version for my own testing. I would create another video for that too. I've asked 3 times but they ignore my request even though I know they are getting huge sales. I also can't talk Kuwfi into sending me one of their units to compare. They told me it was too much of an expense to send me one even though I told them the sales volume they could expect if it worked. If I were the marketing director of these companies I would be disgusted. Lol.
@@SeleTraining Spent many hours nerding out with the SIM7 this weekend. I used a small passive GPS antenna while outside and can confirm the GPS function does work (even though the description and picture of the SIM7 didn't have anything about GPS). I used my T-mobile unlimited sim card out of my phone and band 71 was by far the best for me in my hilly and semi-rural area. I also got a Verizon prepaid SIM to try out for fun (iPad data SIM). I didn't have to do any FW flashing or anything fancy to get it going.... just selected Verizon from the MOFI optiion menu. No unlimited data on the Verizon prepaid sim so I can't say if TTL 65 works to keep Verizon seeing it as streaming video but it was easy to get Verizon working in the SIM 7.
@@N6EAJ That's good news. I wonder if MoFi repurposed a SIM4 with GPS for your new SIM7. Verizon is iffy for some people but glad you were able to get it working. As mentioned in the comments it may need to be TTL 64. That has worked for some but let's see what happens when you go past the data limit.
@@SeleTraining I am assuming MoFi repurposed a SIM4 GPS version for my SIM7 since I have both a SIM4 and SIM7 sticker on the bottom of my unit. My prepaid Verizon plan has a limit on both hotspot data and regular data (no unlimited on anything) so I am guessing I will run out of data eventually even if the TTL is set "right". For rural users on Tmobile, I think the SIM7 is the way to go to get band 71 as the other T-mobile bands were very slow (maybe 2Mbps (even outside) compared to 15-20Mbps down and about 10-12Mbps up on B71. The 600-700MHz travels much better than the higher frequency bands. My ATT DSL is 5Mbps down and a whopping 0.6Mbps up. Uploading pictures to Costco was an all evening process with our internet barely usable during that time. Thanks for the great info on the MoFI routers. They have helped a bunch to get things going. Now to figure out how to combine the two routers and two internet connections into one network.... hey, great idea for your next video :)
@@N6EAJ Depends on location. I've been able to get T-Mobile speeds of 75Mbps on the SIM4 model and see 25Mbps in many locations. Band 71 is a faster frequency in many cases but you can still get great speeds on the other ones too.

This video was perfect for changing my AT&T SIM card in the MOFI for a T-Mobile card. I had to choose the new APN (1st T-Mobile choice was their fast network option - that was the correct one). Then I changed the TTL to Linux 2.65 From Linux 64 - as he instructed - after a couple of minutes to reboot, the MOFI came up on the T-Mobile network; cancelled my AT&T service that was going up to $119.99/month from $99.99. Now paying T-Mobile $55/month for their $55 for over 55 program. (Just went to T-Mobile office and told them I had bad AT&T coverage and wanted to try T-Mobile and wanted a new number. That way my old number stays on the phone and the new number is with the MOFI. Thank you Joe!

I added 2 log periodical beams on mine. I have them 6 foot off the ground. I am getting 40-50 Mbs Down and about 18-20 up. I now have to get them up in the air on my tower @ 40 ft. I now have only 70% signal so I assume that when they are up to get better. I am on T-Mobile band 66. Yes they are worth the money.

What brand of antenna are you using?
How far are you from your tower? I have a parabolic grid about 20' in the air and the best we can get is 7 down and 0.05 up. We are 5 miles from the tower and using T-mobile channel 71.
I've tried everything and can't seem to get the signal any higher. I'm thinking maybe there is something on the settings that I can change, but I can't find any information. I don't claim to know much about these darn things, I'm just trying whatever I find in youtube videos and comment sections on CZcams.

I'd just like to say that I think the Mofi 4500 sim 7 is awesome. We live out in the country in central New York and I bought this to replace my Verizon hotspot. Speeds have gone from 19-27 Mbps to 50-70 Mbps. Speedtests are always consistently the same. We cannot get cable or DSL where we live. So just wanted to say I tell all my friends and family how great it is. Thank you.

@@taron801 Correct. You don't want a hotspot only data plan. It needs to be a regular phone plan. Those include streaming data which the MoFi uses.

Just hooked up my Mofi4500 w/ grandfathered ATT unlimited plan. Boom! Rocking 40mBs down and 20 up. Son is playing fortnite, daughter is watching netflix, I'm watching youtube, wife is facetiming....all right now as I type. So happy!!! Range is great, allows more than 10 connections, and super fast. Way better than my old hotspot phone that I had rooted to allow hotspotting. Helpful tip: We had to set our APN to Att Phone...not Att Broadband. Thanks Sele. BTW, you sound like James Hetfield. Can you sing like him too? LOL
Yes, the APN is very important to match correctly to get the best speed. Congrats!
Hey, be careful not to use more than 200 gigs on the ATT Grandfather plan.
I heard and saw that ATT cancelled all the abusive users on that plan. I have the plan too and try to limit mine to 160 gigs a month, and so far it's getting renewed every month.
@@gogga2000 I've only heard from one user that got blocked and it was over 500GB per month for a year. AT&T did block several prepaid plans a few months ago which is why I suggest only postpaid plans.

I have the one Wilson directional antenna and I didn't realize the primary or secondary antenna it didn't do much good I have to attach it to the primary and check again what's weird is it made my signal go up 4 dbm or so it said 11 but my download speed is slower with the external antenna but I may have been connected to the secondary going to check when I get home! Cell Phone Field Test Mode is *3001#12345#* Dial that on your phone and go to the LTE Menu. Look under Serving Cell Info and you can see the band your cell phone is using to connect. You can match the same band on your MoFi.
The answer to ip pass through is. Under MOFI business then ip pass through. I’m using that connected to my Linksys EA 9500. I’m passing through ip4 and ip6. TMobile. Pre-activated phone sim. Never been in a phone. Ip6 option under dual stack for ip6 support.
That sequence of numbers does not work on an android TMobile Samsung 10+ phone.
It doesn't work on my Samsung galaxy s10plus either.

Hay dude this is frist show Ive seen and i like it, I like the way you explain things very calm and in a way thit's ease to get and it was easy to understand, I know a little bit about electronics but I can do alot of it myself if No ones messing with me wile im doing it. Don't ask for much help because most people cant Explain it to you in a way to understand so it's hard at times And of course cause I'm a woman lol lol you got where I'm going with this ? right you understand but i Will be watching your show from now on Cause I love the way you do it and talk that's usually Hard to follow a video because they don't know how to explain it In a way that you can understand it. but you do because you do a great job at explaining things your are a good teacher , u have a way to get people to understand . most people can't do that for everybody but I'm learning watching you a lot more because i know a little bit on hooking up phones cam corders but I don't know as much as I'd like to but i thk i can do much more with u there to teach it to me . Hello, for the exterior antennas is rg6 cable good or do you recommend a different cable. I plan on mounting exterior antennas on my house , I live in a valley in Oregon and the local CenturyLink internet is 5 mbs when it works.
It uses a 50 Ohm coax cable. The RG6 may work but it is 75 Ohm so not the correct specs.
Can I use the sim card from an added cell phone line that we got which goes unused...

Had a question or two.. Forgive my ignorance if you did touch on these questions. But on the mofi are you able to change to IEMI # to match actual device the sim is registered to? And also can you add new APN(s) so that other carriers can function properly on the mofi? Unless providers such as Verizon can still detect that you aren't using the sim in the actual tablet or cell it is registered to even though you change the LLT setting and IEMI # on the mofi?
You generally have to contact the carrier to change the IMEI that is registered to a device. Most carriers don’t cause issues if they don’t match but Verizon has been picky about that and has blocked some SIMs recently. You can set a custom APN to make it work with any carrier. You’ll have to find the correct APN setting though.

Thanks again for your hard work on getting all of us setup properly. I am a little confused on the antenna options I can get. I will be (hopefully) using Band 4 1700/2100 Mhz with T-mobile. I was looking at using a directional antenna but will I need a booster/amplifier or just connect the directional antenna directly into my MoFi? I have about -100 signal strength outside.
You can connect an antenna directly to the MoFi. No need for any booster equipment. The MoFi will handle that for you. In the description I have links for the Yagi and the Proxicast. The Yagi antenna is directional and the Proxicast is omnidirectional. Either will connect to the Primary 3G/4G LTE side of the MoFi with the proper cable and connectors. I have the Proxicast and typically will see about double the speed when in use. However, in some locations it makes no difference so your experience may vary. a -100 signal is not real strong so the antenna should help.
Thanks for your work sir! QUESTION: I have the MOFI Sim7 and get ~12down/12up (which is more than adequate) but it blips out a couple times per day - I also have DSL at 15down but only 1up. So, I'd like to plug the DSL into the MOFI's WAN port with the goal of using the DSL for download and the MOFI for upload -- is there a MOFI setting that would allow me to do that? Or a better way?
There was a bug in an older firmware with the MoFi that cause disconnects. Make sure to update it to the latest firmware from the system menu and it should solve that issue. You'll need to change the TTL back to 65 after the update since it defaults to 64. You'll need to talk to Mofinetwork.com about the configuration. Not sure how you could split the upload and download to different devices.
RE: Question @ 1:06:00; I was able to connect from LAN port on Mofi to WAN port in my Netgear 2.4/5G router. I just went into the wireless settings in the Mofi, disabled the wireless and the radio, removed the antennas on the Mofi, set the IP of the Netgear router to 192.168.20.1, and configured the wireless details in the Netgear. Works very well. Also want to mention I've been throttled by Verizon and blocked by Page Plus, each within just a few days. Picked up an ATT a couple days ago, so far so good! Excellent videos Mr Sele!
Good plan. You can also connect to one of the 4 ports on the MoFi and let the MoFi DHCP provide an IP to your Netgear without doing the configuration for the WAN port. Your method give you more control but it's a little more techy. Good work.
@@SeleTraining Another discovery. I switched my phone service to T-Mobile and they're using band 41where I live on the closest tower to my home, and that's what my phone locks to when I use it. This means they're using old Sprint bands to transmit under T-Mobile plans. I'd recommend using an app called LTE Discovery to determine what band they're using at a given location before purchasing a Mofi. BTW, routinely getting 120-160 +Mb down on 4G LTE with my phone from this tower.
@@ozarksgoldwing8367 Great! I figured they would transition the Sprint towers over to T-Mobile. When you do a band scan on the MoFi it should show all the available options too.

I just received my Visible SIM that I'll initialize on my iPad until the MoFi arrives. And while we don't go out in the boonies often, I did purchase 2 Yagi's which I'll compare to my existing WEBoost Trucker antenna. At 58:50 you mentioned the 10dBi gain from the Proxicast Omni - FYI due to the pattern of the additional Yagi directors, they are more efficient than a straight half-wave dipole or omni due to the narrower (60 degree) beamwidth, thus the Yagi will have a higher decibel amplification factor (and another 6dB by adding a second cross-polarized Yagi, 3dB if not angled 90 degrees). Whatever, as you pointed out, you're fine with the Upload/Download speeds of your current setup (as Livestreaming at 720p). Cheers, Michael
Good point. One of the benefits of two antennas is carrier aggregation but that only works on the SIM4 model. The SIM7 does not have carrier aggregation. I am currently using a SIM4 but only with one Antenna.
@@SeleTraining Thanks - While I'm only a student of the MoFi until I can perform comprehensive testing, I'm less sanguine about the advantages of SIM4's carrier aggregation compared the wholesale benefits of dual cross-polarized yagi's on the SIM7 (following the manufacturer's recommendation to band lock the router to the fastest LTE band). I live here in houston the city and I would like to get t-prepaid can you recommend this on the mofi
for your external Proxicast Omni-Directional for you have it as the only input to your mofi or did you leave the second antenna port open or use a sma splitter
I connected the Proxicast to the primary connection on the MoFi and left the secondary connection with the original antenna. The alternative would be to use two Proxicast antennas but that only helps if you have the SIM4 model with carrier aggregation. Otherwise it makes no difference.
Great video. I will be adding a line to my T-Mobile plan for my sim7 that came yesterday. Is there an advantage to getting an iPad plan over a phone plan? Is it easier for TMobile to detect what you are doing with a cell plan? My daughter has a SIM iPad so I will probably go with an iPad plan.
Makes no difference but the iPad plan may be cheaper.

Question: I currently have a MoFi 4500 SIM4 and using a 4G T-Mobile SIM card with it. However, I just ordered a 5G T-Mobile SIM card and a MoFi 4500 SIM7. Would you wait for the MoFi 5500 instead? Any updates on when the 5500 will be released?

The 5500 is the only option for 5G. Should be out soon. I don’t know yet if it will replace all 4g functions though. I heard MoFI is planning on multiple 5500 models.
Just received info from Mofi and the MoFi5500 will be released in April. I should have one for testing in a couple weeks and will have a video up with a comparison to the Insty Connect.
Great Video thanks for the info. One question, I live in a rural area and have a good cell connection with Verizon, my present carrier. If i wanted to go with a unlimited data plan for the mofi through another carrier such as at&t or tmobile is there a way of checking cell signal strength for other carriers at my location, prior to enrolling in a plan? I know about the coverage maps that all carriers have, but is there a more exact way of determining which carrier would be the best for me. Other than buying a cell signal tester or paying someone to do an on site analysis. thanks for any help.
Nothing great that I am aware of. There are apps for your phone like Opensignal that can be helpful
Hi, trying to get my sim 7 MOFI set up here, so i put my regular AT&T sim card in and it worked great, however in one day as i as monitoring my data usage i used 10GB, i had the TTL setting setup and the Linux 2-65, should my data consumption be using that much if i am supposed to appear on the system as streaming data? Should i go with a different company like T-Mobile or Verison.

That's normal. It will still count all the data you are using even if the number goes over your data cap. The key to knowing the TTL setting is working is you should not be throttled when you go past the data limit.

Hello great videos! I have a grandfathered at&t unlimited hotspot plan currently on a netgear nighthawk m1 and use from 400 to 600gb a month for the last year but would like to go with mofi for channel lock my netgear wont do that. Will this work ok for me?
Yes, that will work.
You can band lock the m1, do a search for berrygoodjuice for instructions on CZcams.

Life Wireless is not list as an APN for the MoFi but you may be able to find the custom APN and use that setting to get it to work and then set the Provider Selector appropriately.

Yes, it will work with a T-Mobile tablet data plan. However the TTL setting on the MoFi will let you go past your data limit without throttling so the plan does not have to be truly unlimited. The Magenta is unlimited but throttled at 50GB, same for tablet plans. The MoFi will go past 50GB without throttling only because of the TTL setting. Just make sure you don't use a mobile hotspot plan. With those the SIM will work in the MoFi but you will still get throttled at the data limit.

Sprint does work with the SIM4 version but with the T-Mobile merger I wonder if they will have coverage from Sprint. For AT&T you can try to get the SIM but they often want you to activate it in a tablet at the store. It needs to be activated before using it in the MoFi.

I purchased the Mofi, set it up with a 3 gb of data, ttl set to 65, plugged eithernet wire into the Lan1of the Mofi and into a WAN on my nighthawk AX8 router for better wireless. The speeds were excellent 16+ Mbps, compared to CenturyLink 5mbps, And in just few hours of streaming we had used up all of the ATT 3 gb of data and the sim card shut off. The Mofi stopped working. Do you have any suggestions? The TTL setting didn't seem to stop the data from being used.
If you are using a hotspot only data plan or prepaid plan it won’t work. It should be a regular cell phone plan.

The SIM7 adds a couple new bands 66 and 71. Those are faster and worth it if you have the right carrier. The SIM7 does not work with Sprit like the SIM4 and does not have MIMO if you plan to use aggregation for two antennas.
Thank you for this video, it's given me a few things to try to restore my internet. I got the Mofi 4500 sim4 thru Ubifi 2-3 years ago & have been using their monthly AT&T data plan ever since. Shortly after, I connected a Deco M4 mesh system that greatly increased coverage area, speed (plus 2.4&5G!) although I think I had to adjust pass thru or something to make it work. Major recent service disruption with Ubifi's new SIM rollout that I still don't think is resolved so going to try setting it up with my tablet SIM (AT&T postpaid) tomorrow. Do you know what settings to change in the Mofi interface to make the Deco mesh work? Is it pass thru, bridge?
Yes, Normally you can just setup a bridge connection.

We are building in an area with no access to internet without great expense, so we bought a Mofi and using it in camper while we build. Our ISP is Visible. We had some problems with internet access the other night with 3 devices on. Any suggestions? 2nd question, the house has a second level so thinking about a mesh router system. Which would be most compatible with the Mofi4500? Any particular settings necessary on the Mofi?
Sounds like Internet was working and then not with 3 devices? Shouldn’t make a difference with additional devices unless you are just maxing out the available throughput. If you are borderline in connectivity to the tower an antenna like the Proxicast may help. The MoFi can link to other devices so something like an Orbi mesh system will work although I have not tried it. One other subscriber mentioned they are planning to use Orbi.

I use a proxicast antenna (listed in the description). You connect the antenna in place of the primary side of the MoFi wide band antenna. The MoFi can be located anywhere. Just make sure it's not too close to the outside antenna. You can use any wideband antenna as long as you get matching connectors for the MoFi and it is a cell phone booster antenna. The cable needs to be a 50 Ohm, not 75 Ohm like a TV cable.

When I chatted with ATT to try to add an Ipad data plan, the rep mentioned they do not send sim cards, but instead request this info "because the combination of IMEI and EID/CSN will activate the eSIM that is inbuilt with the device." I assumed this will not work with a MoFi Sim7.... which needs a sim card, right?
Activate it with a cell phone or iPad first. Then you can use the SIM in the MoFi.
Thanks for your videos they are very helpful. But I'm having a internet issue wondering if you can give me some advice. I have the mofe4500 with a Verizon sim card. My internet worked for a few months but now I can not get internet. I called mofi they spent a few hours trying different settings then ended up sending me a new router. The new one is also not getting internet. If I click on check signal it does show 3-4 bars and signal is good but the light on the unit is not lit and I don't get serve. I Called them again they said I had to have Hotspot in that sim for it to work. Do you have any suggestions?
If you use a hotspot SIM it will not allow you to go over the data cap and will throttle your data use. That is why I always recommend a cell SIM. It's most likley that Verizon has blocked your account. That tend to happen with Verizon because they are picky about the SIM card being used in another device instead of your phone. Put the SIM back in your cell phone and see if it works. If not you will have to call Verizon to see if they can unlock your account.
My router network settings does not have the same menu as shown on your video. And I also do not see my cell phone number or provider listed. There’s an internal module and an IMEI listed but no cell number. Does the cell number need to be there?(I updated the firmware already)
It sometimes does not show up for a long time. Make sure to set the Provider Selector and the APN then do a band scan. If it shows available bands then you are configured correctly and can lock it on the best band.

You can leave that Enabled.
i just got a sim 7 and my phone always gets double or more the speed then the mofi. theythe mofi are on the same band (66) and I put my phone next to the mofi is that normal ?
Have you tried multiple bands? Sometimes the MoFi runs faster on a different band than the phone. Also it could be your antennas. Make sure the wider antennas are connected to the 3g/4g LTE side of the MoFi.
What version should i buy that supports the unlimited streaming feature with the settings when setting up the router ? If that makes sense
I recommend using an additional line from your existing cell carrier to keep the cost lower. If not, you can get an iPad unlimited data plan from AT&T for $20/mo if you call around. The key is to get a regular cell plan, not a hotspot data plan. Then with the TTL setting it will allow you to go past the data cap without throttling.

Curious if you've upgraded to the MoFi sim7. Im about to buy one but uncertain as to get the newest model (adds band 71) but no 'carrier aggregation' capabilities. Full-time RVer also and often in mountainous terrain a distance from towers. Have a Yagi directional and WeBoost amp which has allowed me to connect most places with Verizon. Although my speeds are never above single digit. Im upgrading to another yagi and MIMO. Need the MoFi to connect too. I mostly stream lots of video (youtube, netflix, Amazon, etc) by hot spotting and or mirroring between phone and computer/monitor.

I still have the SIM4 but would choose the SIM7 for my RV travel just to get the additional bands. Band 71 is for T-Mobile though. I use a Proxicast Omnidirectional antenna since it is easier to setup than a Yagi while I travel often. The only time you want a directional antenna is if you are at the extreme ends of connectivity and you can't get connected without it. That is rare in my opinion. You either get a connection or none at all in most locations and MIMO doesn't really make a big difference. If I was stationary and trying to maximize my speed it may make more sense. The nice thing about the MoFi is once you connect to the cell tower it becomes your hotspot for all your devices. So I can park, set the MoFi, and get all my devices connected without any more work. No mirroring needed. I use both of my TV's to stream videos, run my security cameras, use my computer, and my tablet. The TV's have Roku and it connects to the hotspot directly for streaming. I can also connect my T-Mobile phone to the Internet through the MoFi using an AT&T SIM and make Internet calls. So if I am in a location where T-Mobile does not have service then I can piggyback on the Internet of my MoFi and continue to use my cell phone. I've found that streaming with Netflix, Hulu, CZcams and other services will work down to 2 or 3 Mbps. So even with a limited connection you can stream TV.

Excellent videos, just wondering why are you not using a MIMO external omni antenna vs the Proxicast single omni antenna?
The Proxicast is omnidirectional and less hassle when I travel plus I’ve been able to get adequate speeds that I don’t need to optimize it any further. I’ve found that speed varies so much from location to location that I’m better off finding a good connection than I am squeezing more speed out of a poor connection. That may change in the future but it’s not an issue now.
help...please What band do you recommend locking in for ATT? on auto my speeds are greatly flucuating. I have MOFI 7. I currently have an ATT plan with a 3rd party with unlimited data but I guess I don't understand how or where to get a SIM like you are talking about for $20 bucks or so with unlimited data. This is so confusing. Also, I have Visible for personal phone and I tried it in the MOFI and I wasn't able to get it connected. In my own mind I guess I cant wrap my head around how it would stay connected once the Sim is removed?? I'm so entery level--thank you in advanced.
Make sure to watch my latest update video. I cover more details on the plans and pricing. You can use your current ATT SIM in the MoFi or you can add a line for $20. Just make sure you don't use a prepaid plan. Otherwise you can find an AT&T iPad unlimited data plan for $20/mo as a new customer if you call around to your local AT&T stores and find one that offers it. The SIM has to stay in the MoFi do you'll need to dedicate one to the MoFi for Internet access. I also have a video that explains the setup process as well.

This is an issue with any router using Verizon. Verizon likes to block the SIM if you use it any any other device that does not match the IMEI of the phone you activated with the SIM.
Do you have to use the SIM card or can you use a USB modem with the TTL option?
You need a SIM in order to provide cell based Internet to the device. Otherwise it is just a hub for your devices without Internet.
Does the MoFi work with Wifi as WAN? meaning can I use it to connect to a RV park wifi and rebroadcast into my RV, with failover to cell or vice versa?
No. It will only receive a cell signal and provide Wi-Fi to your devices. You would need to add another Wi-Fi booster to boost the Wi-Fi signal in a campground.
Just wanted to let you know I’ve had the mofi for about 3 months the t-mobile sims card was working fine I was using close to 400 each month. This month they throttled me at 50 . I talked to them they said that I’ve been going over and will be deprioritsized at 50 . Now I only get 5 down. So they eventually will get you. Is there any other sim that can be use.
Wow. That is the first I have heard of that issue. Only one other person has had throttling for using over 500 GB each month for a year. You could get an AT&T sim and swap the occasionally to split up the data usage.

Yes. Using an existing phone line is the best way to make this work with the TTL. The carriers and MoFi support will tell you to get a hotspot plan but that is incorrect. You actually want a SIM for a standard phone line.

I have the Mofi and it worked phenomenally well, till bubba service was cut off. tried nomad and i couldn't get it to work. I tried prepaid att and Verizon and couldn't get it it work. are there any sim cards that work anymore? If so what are they as of september 9/13/2020?
The problem is prepaid plans. Make sure you get a postpaid plan from one of the major carriers. The prepaid plans are getting blocked by many carriers when used in another device. Also Verizon does not work for everyone. I am currently using AT&T and T-Mobile just fine.
Been doing a lot of research on the routers. I see a lot of You tube videos say to set the TTl settings to 65 including the ATT tablet plan.. Also see a lot of You tubers say internet companies sees imei which identifies the device being used. Found a few routers that the imei can be changed, including the NightHawk M1 (for a fee) which makes the modem look like a phone. So I'm confused to which is correct, or both? Cannot find a router that changes the imei and TTL settings. Any thoughts? BTW, my attention span usually maxes at 20 minutes, but you held me for the hr. :)
The latest MoFi is certified and the retail store can pair the IMEI with the SIM. Insty Connect is working on certification as well. I have both AT&T and T-Mobile and the IMEI is not paired. They both work fine in the MoFi and Insty Connect. Verizon is the one carrier that gets picky with the pairing and may block your SIM if you don't have a match.
When you activate the SIM card on your phone then place it in the MoFi do you use iemi of the MoFi or of the phone??
Only Verizon is picky about matching the IMEI. The other carriers don’t appear to care about them matching.

Thank you for this video! I ordered the 20.00 per month post paid ATT data tablet plan. They say it's "unlimited" but after 22 gigs they say I may encounter "deprioritization". Have you encountered this issue?
Deprioritization can occur when you are over the limit but it is very rare. I've only experienced it twice in 2 years of travel and that's when a large convention was in a small town area that maxed out the towers. It only lasted a few hours and then the speed went back to normal. It could be an issue if you are in a fixed location that is overloaded frequently but it's still rare.
I have 2 T-Mobile data only SIM cards with Binge On option activated. It's been working well for weeks. But, lately they are being throttled one after another. Streaming still works, but browsing is very slow. Do I just have to get an add on card to work?
Make sure you set the Provider selector to Generic and APN to fast.tmobile. Also set the TTL to Linux65. It should not throttle. Do a Speedtest and see if your speed has changed. It is possible you are getting deprioritized on the tower of it is overloaded.
If you get the new MOFI SIM7, do you want to set it at 71 vs 65?
71 is a better speed band if it is available. Generally you can do a band scan and it will find the best band but you can test them all to conform the fastest one.

An iPad SIM will work but Verizon is problematic for many people. They often block the SIM if it is used in a different device. For some people it works just fine. I've had a few people get success by setting the TTL to 64 for Verizon. It works fine for other carriers.
Sele Training ok great info. What about sprint? Worth getting a phone and using the SIM card in the mofi? Where i live cell service is difficult except sprint has a huge signal here. I was using a company called Suresite and i had sprint unlimited around 30 mbps. When sprint and T-Mobile merged they took away those accounts. T-Mobile hasn’t taken over the tower yet either so I’m stuck in limbo. Sprint hotspot SIM cards work but I’m constantly in fear of using it all up. Would you go the sprint phone route if you were in this situation? I have a verizon account with 7 phones for my company which is why i have extra verizon SIM cards.
@@n9878f You could use a Sprint phone plan. Make sure it is not a prepaid and you'll have to get a SIM4 model. The SIM7 model does not work with Sprint.
Sounds like your iPad unlimited plan is a stand-alone plan (no phone). Do you have to activate the SIM card on an iPad before putting it in the MoFi?
I brought my own iPad to the AT&T store to purchase the SIM and have them activate it. I don't think most stores will just give you the SIM.
Did you have to buy any male to female adaptors for the Yagi Antenna?
Yes, a little tricky to get the right connectors. The Yagi in my link comes with a cable that connects to the MoFi so you shouldn't need additional connectors. I used a different cable for mine and had to get separate connectors. It could be any combination of male/female SMA or FME connector.
Do you think the Sierra cellular card in the mofi4500 can be upgraded to a 5G Sierra card?
Not sure where in the comments but one of the subscriber did upgrade the sierra card. Not to 5G but to a newer version. I've heard that MoFi is coming out with multiple 5500 models for 5G. I suspect that there is enough differences that just updating the sierra card may not be all that is required.

You could turn off the WiFi setting on the MoFi and use another router connected to the MoFi instead.

I've scanned the comments to check if anyone has mentioned the quality connection for a VPN connected to the Mofi via ethernet cable....found no questions that specifically ask about that. So I want to add my question...i am aware the Mofi will be getting the signal thru the sim card provided from mobile carrier. If I connect my primary Desktop and work remotely by signing into company VPN..will the MOFI maintain the speed to run 8 or 9 applications in the VPN? Like running 9 web pages that require fast enough speed for up to 25mbps. (Sorry if my question sounds confusing) ...i live out in rural area and have satellite internet and has caused so much issues with working remotely and not fully supporting my company VPN. I use my computer with a hardwired connection to the MoFi and my other devices are wireless. It works either way. The speed you get completely depends on the connection to your local cell tower and how good the throughput is for your area. The main problem with satellite Internet is the latency and that is probably what impacts your VPN connection. As long as you have decent speed with the tower the MoFi will work fine for a VPN connection. If you run speedtest on your cell phone you should get the same speed with the MoFi using that same SIM card.

Im currently paying 200 a month for a 100gb plan and im barely getting 35megs. The tech support for Viasat keep saying their speed tests show download speed at 98mbps which was not matching my actual speedtest being tested on the pC hardwired by ethernet. So all they do is have me reboot the modem but that does nothing and still get slow speeds. So we always stream one device from the satellite and all other devices have to connect to our mobile Hotspot. Now im moving in a desperate search for alternate internet service to continue to be able to work remotely.

Hi there. I'm having trouble with my mofi. I see others saying you can use a cellphone sim and pop it right in there and it should work. I have a sprint cell sim but when I called for support they said I needed to buy a separate sim from sprint. Is there a way around that I'm not seeing? They walked me through different steps which rebooted the router several times but at the end they said I ultimately had to purchase a separate card and pay like $70 per month. Is there a setting in there that can bypass having to do that? Or can you recommend a good sim and plan to purchase for less than $70? I would appreciate any help!

The SIM7 model does not work with Sprint. I assume you have the SIM4 model which should be fine. Mofinetwork likes to recommend their other data plan for $70 or $80 a month and it's too expensive. You can use a standard cell plan from any carrier. Not sure why the Sprint option is not working for you if you have a SIM4 but you may want to go to an AT&T store and ask for the iPad unlimited data plan for $20/month plus tax for a new customer/single line. That is what I use. Not all stores know about the plan so you may have to call around to find staff that can get you that plan.
With the blue either net port can you connect the 4500 to a cable modem and set the 4500 as a backup to the cable connection?
Yes, it even has options to use it as a failover router.

mofi4500 4GXeLTE-V3 been using since nov 20 and use visible. set up as you explain....works. However When I first choose the bandwidth the first speedtest is pretty good ie: band 66 ping99 download 23.68 upload 5.20. I test again within minutes and is goes down to 99-5.04-5.04. and stays there. This happens on all the bands. I have the ttl on 65. It doesn't matter which band I try they all do the dame thing...even rebooting. Do you have any suggestions of settings I could try? Most of the time I get enough internet speed to get by but lately terrible delays.
Visible has a 5Mbps data limit. It probably starts at normal speed for a moment before Visible caps it at 5. They did remove the speed cap for a limited time but apparently that limit is back now.
I just got my MOFI Sim7 and set it up with Visible. Its working but my wifi speeds are terrible. Ive got a Visible Sim in my iphone and do a speed test on my phone and get 10-15mbps using just LTE with WIFI off, but when I turn on the WIFI on the phone and connect to the MOFI my speeds are less than 1mbps. Any thoughts on what my problem is?
Make sure you do a band scan and lock it to the fastest band. You can try each one to find the best. You also may want to connect with an Ethernet cable to the MoFi and see if that is any different.

Normally yes but recent comments from viewers have mentioned trouble with Sprint since the merger with T-Mobile. It may work to request a new SIM from T-Mobile.

They usually get more back in stock quickly. The SIM4 is available but the SIM7 is out of stock. There are differences in those models so I would wait for the SIM7 if you want that one.

Yes, you can disable the WiFi in the menu. The MoFi has a 4 port hub so you can hard wire devices if you prefer.
We have the Mofi 4500 with Visible as we live in a rural setting. We signed up for Hulu Live on one TV in our new home. However when we tried to log on to Hulu from the living room tv, it did not gain access. It stated we appeared to not be home but when I tried to set as home, I got an error. It appears we cannot use a mobile internet source. Do u have any suggestions?
Hulu live does not allow service from any mobile internet connection because it’s not locked to a physical home location. Several of the online TV services do that unfortunately. I personally went with CZcams TV for that reason.

The APN should be Boost_Mobile. Always set the TTL to 65.

Verizon works for some and not for others and we don't know the specifics as to which ones however if the account works in the MoFi your hotspot SIM will work. It will still throttle at the data limit though. Only regular cell plans will take advantage of the TTL. Check the comments on Verizon.

You can do a factory reset. I have not heard of any that get corrupted so I don’t know if the reset will solve every issue.

Any carrier will work but you have to set the Provider and APN correctly to match the carrier.

Hi, Would legacy Tmobile T-zones plan work with the MoFi? It gets unlimited internet but ONLY if the IMEI is not one of the major brand phones sold in the US because Tmobile actively blocks these phones to use the old plan by checking the IMEI. It will work if it's an imported phone where the IMEI is not in their database, otherwise I get the upsell page to upgrade my plan. I'm not letting it go since it's just 6 bucks and I get unlimited internet. I hear this old plan works on most iPhones, interestingly.
I’m not sure but I’d guess it’s not likely to work. Those plans are often blocked when used in newer smart phones and probably would be in the MoFi as well.
We are building a new house out in the sticks. Good voice and data outside on Verizon; AT&T weak. Inside almost non-existent due to metal roof, low e glass, and high R insulation. We work from home (for now) so we need good voice and data. Any chance the cell phone booster (voice) solves my data issues as well? Will the Mofi rabbit ears be enough? I’m probably going to install a Weboost Home Multiroom or Home Complete. Or do I go all in and put 3 Yagi’s up on the roof, 1 for the booster and 2 for the Mofi?
Using the Yagi or Proxicast antenna with the MoFi should solve that issue. I had a Weboost but prefer the MoFi with an antenna because it works for all devices connected through the MoFi. You can actually do Internet data calling from your phone when connected to the MoFi. You still need a SIM in the cell phone but it will use the MoFi wifi connection to make a call. I have T-Mobile cell phones but if I am in a location where only AT&T service works in the MoFi I can still make a phone call through the MoFi from my cell phone using data calling.
Sele Training Understood. However, I want to keep the booster as guests, clients, etc will be able to use their phone without using my WiFi. So go all in or wait and try the “rabbit ears”?
I know that you posted this 2 months ago but I have a,question. Is this better than a netgear nighthawk mr1100? I understand that the nighthawk is a cat 16 and the mofi is a cat4 or a cat6. I saw a mofi look alike on amazon that has a cat 12. Can I please get your honest opinion.?
The benefit of the MoFi is the TTL setting that lets you go past the data limits without throttling. The nighthawk and many other routers don’t have that setting in the menu. There are better routers and having a faster modem like a Cat12 is an advantage however the MoFi serves a great purpose of giving you that unlimited data where you are limited with the other options.
@@SeleTraining well please let me know because I am interested in changing my setup. I have to pay $100.00 a month now. I'm looking for something cheaper. I know that the Mofi and the Taktikal units are expensive to start but cheaper monthly.

I missed your stream, but wanted to ask, What are the correct settings for Dynamic DNS? Carrier is T-Mobile. Using no-ip.com. Not sure on Event interface, Source of IP and Interface selections. Thank you !!
That is a good question. Not sure exactly but I'd check with support at mofinetwork.com. They may be able to tell you the specific settings.
I don't think you can use ddns on T-Mobile, I found they issue a public address to the router which is different from the public ip when using 'what is my ip address' so no direct path to you/your router. It would be an internal fix at T-Mobile to make it work. Extra expense and a blown cover of using the MoFi.
