- Hi - thinking of motorising a kit built tube train? Here is how.
I fit a Tenshodo motor bogie and upgraded Metromodels trailer bogies, before making the model DCC ready!
Follow this step by step walkthrough to carry out the same work on your own model!

Great vlog..... great miniature modelling
Thanks a lot for all the info and very clear video demo - great!
My pleasure!
It’s certainly a very attractive and interesting idea!! One of my other layouts will almost certainly have some London Underground in it!!
Great introduction to fitting motors and ancillaries to Underground stock Eric
Thanks Steve! 😀
Wow fantastic video. Love the DCC concept wipers. I can through my phosphorus bronze strip away!
Cheers mate, yeah they do the job good, just got to spend time setting them up so you have the tension right on them. Too loose and youll lose electrical contact, too tight and the wheels will drag.
All just takes practice!
Really enjoyed that Eric, way beyond me but I like seeing the process anyway. 😉 Paul
Great video. ☺️
Hi Eric,
Great video. And thanks for the showing the role of wire. I need really thin wire for fixing an N&W steam switcher. Now I have a part No to use in my search for very thin wire to run between loco and tender. Nice layout. Only thing missing is the conductor rails. I guess the Peco 3rd rail stuff would work. Lisa
Great video, very inspiring! Thanks. Love the Island line dinosaur livery in the thumbnail. Great memories. :-)
Thanks glad you enjoyed it! Ha, its a very love/hate livery for most people but i think its fun!
awesome video mate very amazing
Appreciate it 🙂
What a compelling video. I watched it all the way through! Such dedication and professionalism to the cause of LT modeling. I have got four intermediate 1938 carriages, but no end cars. I found I could tow these around the layout. It made a bit of noise going around, but then you got a lot of noise from that Tenshodo motor after doing all that work! Thanks for uploading.
Thanks Allen, glad you liked the video!
That sounds like fun. The trailer bogie upgrade would be worthwhile for making them run better!
The tenshodos are sometimes very grumbly indeed! Haha.
@@UndergroundEric The tenshodo strikes me as being a bit pricey as well as noisy! Maybe try modifying a Hornby Jouef T4021 Eurostar Power Bogie. Not too much to lose at £2.99 each from Peter's Spares!
Awesome mate great work
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Very talented.
Thanks! 😀
I have a Tube Train on my Ongar Station layout, but it’s a non-runner. The old Tube Train is in our museum section at Ongar Station..
Nice background music!!
Lots of people literally would only choose the Locsound chip for this kind of work. I most certainly would!!
Zimo are also equally as good, but i prefer the Sound files available with ESU decoders so Loksound/Lokpilot is my go-to
@@UndergroundEric Exactly, Eric!! The files that I am using at the moment are pre-fitted by Hornby or Bachmann!!
Nevermind the Class 66 crashing into the buffer stop at 27:31 XD
Good spot 👀
Makes me glad I model in N and don't need to use these ;)
Kato or tomytec chassis i assume? Are they dcc ready though?
Did you know that EFE are now making motorised classic Tube Trains?
Yes i have a couple sets on order 🙂
Can I connect the wire straight from the pickups to the motor bogie
Only on DC
@@UndergroundEric okay so I have tried doing the pickups and they have to much friction on the wheels, so the train goes really slowly
@@metromodelsrules5127 yes its hard to get them correct
How do I get one of the IOW trains?
Ebay is the only way these days im afraid!
What company makes the pickups
Dcc concepts
are these models still available to buy
Only second hand these days

Hello sailor
