Myself a metalhead, played this movie anticipating some serious thrashin metal tunes. Instead we get about 4 minutes of punk grindcore and everything else is about the deaf community and inner peace and meaning of life stuff. Awesome. I mean, really. Awesome.
@@joyajohnson2216 Well yea, but metal is in the title, literally c’mon now. However, having just seen it myself, I gotta say it’s a very intriguing and captivating film.
@@joshq713 the title refers more to the sound of his cochlear implants than it does the genre of music they play which strikes me as more noise-rock than anything
What an amazing movie! I almost cried several times as I've read about many musicians who've lost a great deal of hearing due to prolonged exposure. Being a metal head when I was younger, I encountered friends and acquaintances who just wanted to CRANK IT no matter what. I made sure I turned it to a reasonable level for myself since my grandmother and other relatives wound up with hearing aids in their '60s.
The film is still in my head after watching it 3 days ago ... I have a fear of losing my hearing and this film portrayed it so well. Riz was sick as well. Proper versatile actor
I agree that Riz performance was outstanding. But can we agree that Olivia made a great performance? All the energy and contrast of personality that she shows in this movie it’s just so amazing. 👏 x ♾
I enjoy the play on how, the first scene, this sound of metal, the music brings him peace, but the ending scene is a different sound of metal. That causes him his new peace
Hey man if you’re looking for something similar this movie was based around the lives of jucifer which is a husband and wife band they play similar music to what you hear there you should check them out some good songs are long live the king and “rain and pink chiffon”
This song reminds me of early Sonic Youth. If someone wanna hear more music like this I'd recommend listening to Confusion Is Sex, there's also videos of live shows on CZcams were the band was experimenting with all sorts of instruments
This movie literally shook and moved me..! Amazing amazing movie..! The ending is one of the most epic endings I have ever witnessed in my entire life as a cinema lover..
The person who actually recorded drums for the soundtrack version of this song is the current drummer of Bosse-de-nage. Might just be my favorite to listen to, lots of energy (listen to their track 'Desuetude' to hear what I mean).
I will never understand why people dont take care of there hearing i started to take care of mine more and more a year ago when i started to get ringing im only 15 and i havent had ringing in my ears in a while im very happy about that and think my ears still have a chance :)
This is one of the only music scenes in a film that I've seen that gives this much attention to detail to a musical performance, even a really short one. First of all, whether or not what Riz Ahmed is shown to be playing on the drums is dubbed over with another track, it's very clear that Riz Ahmed put his all into playing the drum part we are hearing correctly. To the point where I'd say that, yes, we are really hearing him play the drums. Furthermore, one thing that bothered me when I first saw this scene was that Olivia Cooke takes both her hands off the guitar at 1:52 to grip the microphone, and yet despite the band being a two piece and her now not playing the guitar, you still hear the guitar being played when you can't see anybody playing it. However, upon rewatch, I'd say you can clearly see her stomp some kind pedal at 1:51, and it's my bet that that pedal is a loop pedal, playing that one guitar shot over and over again so that Cooke can go into her theatrics. You can even see her start fretting the guitar again at 2:29, right when the guitar changes. Great cinematography and attention to detail. I love this film.
Anyone have recommendations for songs similar to this? Closest I can think of is Lila Engel by Neu!, but I'm sure there's more contemporary stuff thats more similar to this.
It appears to be a sludge metal act, but an extremely stripped down and experimental one. The opening of the song is akin to drone metal while the ending is akin to grindcore.
I love the confused metallica fanboys in the comments. No one said this is a metal band, or a movie about metal music. For those who liked it, check out Daughters, (early) Swans, The Body. I guess this opening song would be considered drone with a hint of punk or noise rock? Either way, it's really well made and goes harder than any metal song. Glad the director chose to not have the band be a generic metal band, makes the movie more special and unique.
I had the same feeling, this just sounds like someone slamming drums with no rhyme or reason and someone incoherently making noises. Doesn’t actually sound like a real song
I mean, drone metal and doom metal are a thing. This band is based on a similar duo called Jucifer, which sound pretty close to what the band in the movie does
@@colonmuncher3655 it's a pretty niche genre, don't worry about it. Anyway, the band's music is not that prominent in the movie, they play just two songs
Have you ever heard of doom metal or even Death Grips? Just because this doesn't sound like Metallica and have "licks" doesn't mean it doesn't kick ass. I came to this video for this song in particular
That's some pretty bad ass music - who is it? I'm assuming Olivia Cooke didn't actually sing it - although I would believe Riz played the drums on it. Whoever it is, if anyone knows, I'd appreciate the name of the band - thanks in advance
