The Final Thought: Why Should I Become Catholic? - Apologetics Series - Episode 42

  • On the final episode of the Apologetics Series, we answer one last remaining question, "How do we know with certainty that we should join the Catholic Church?" Over the past 41 episodes we have shown that God exists, that His Word is true, that we can find Him, that Jesus is Him, and that the Church was given to us for our salvation. Yet we may still wonder if we should join an institution that has had corrupt leaders throughout history and today appears to be self-contradictory at points. Fr. David Sherry will join us for the final word.

The Catholic church is the only form of Christianity that makes sense to me. And its a beautful sense at that. God gave us intelligence and reasoning for a reason.

Thank you Fr Sherry à brilliant gentle and firm explanation calling all people to choose the Catholic Church for truth revealed by God. I have forwarded this episode to our dear 20 year old Muslim friend seeking out our Catholic faith. She is seeing one of our Society priests in Ontario. God bless and protect you father and you Andrew for all the hard work and excellence thank you.

Father Sherry's eloquence and mastery of the language and the Faith reminds us all that he indeed hails from "The Land of Saints and Scholars."

I'd like to take some time to echo the many other comments that have surely been posted across the many other video series produced by the SSPX. This material is as valuable now as it always has been, and the need for it is as urgent as ever. As someone who is only about halfway through the original Crisis in the Church series, I would like to sincerely thank the producers and contributors for their good stewardship of the Catholic flock. It also seems to me that, in contrast to the approach of Vatican II, this unmitigated teaching of the real and substantial truths of the Faith will be quite attractive to people outside the Faith currently as well, since unlike more modern ecumenical approaches, these series do not hide, downplay, or present creative heterodox interpretations of what the Church actually believes; on the contrary, it teaches clearly and effectively. I think the truth is attractive to people, when rightly taught and understood; particularly in times of great deception.
Please do continue making these, and thank you for your good work.

    I have
questions...Why does the priest instruct me to say 10 'Hail Mary' prayers in succession?... Jesus Himself refutes this type of prayer as follows:
    Matthew 6:7 (NLT)
"When you pray don't babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and aain."
I presume a priest would be well versed in this Gospel scripture, so why would he teach this, which is in direct contradiction to Jesus statement?

I assume you mean the rosary: it is both prayer and meditation at the same time. The person prayers while meditating upon some matter do faith, for example, the resurrection. Please do use a translation which is more accurate than the infamous ‘New’ series and the ‘Living’ varieties, for the text says in truth:
      “battalogēsēte”
      “do use vain repetitions”
The emphasis is on the vanity, as Christ tells us to pray the Our Father, and many of the psalms, if you read them, repeat the same prayers over and over. The issue is to repeat a prayer in vanity. To meditate upon the mysteries and life of Christ is no vanity at all. I hope this helps!

I am 35 years old and have been going to an FSSPX parish ever since. With this series alone I have realized that the FSSPX and Catholicism is clearly wrong and I am now becoming an atheist. Thank you FSSPX for this series!

I hate to see Ill intent, but I am going to call you upon this as a likely untruth. For what parishioner of the sspx has a 911 profile picture? Your lack of a proper object in your first sentence speaks to English being a second language, and perhaps being younger than 35. I suspect that you are not an apostate due to this, and possibly not an apostate at all, but maybe even unbaptised, or perhaps a Protestant or an baptised atheist. Correct me if I am wrong.

I have questions...The Bible teaches Jesus is our sole Intercessor [John 14:6]...He willfully stepped down from heaven to inc arnate as a man and suffered an excruciating death on the Cross as a substitutionary atonement to wash me clean in His blood for my sins and bring me in union with the Father...Yet the Catholic priest asks me to pray to Mary for the repentance of my sins? Why!?...Does this not undermine the blood sacrifice Jesus made on my behalf?...Is there ONE prescriptive scriptural text in the WHOLE new testament that teaches one to pray to Mary?...Does not Jesus Himself teach us to pray to the Father? [Luke 11:1-4]...Is there ONE scriptural passage that teaches Mary is divine?...Isn't Jesus enough?
