    Another interesting thing is that in FTWD season 2, when they are going to Mexico. They had Mexican Navy portralling their coastline. There is a deleted scene where Daniel Salazar stated that the Mexican Navy sailors are former military and have gone rogue rather than actually representing the Navy. It would be cool to see a pirate group that was formerly the Navy.

    I never could really buy the idea that the US Navy went down so completely. When Wildfire went global there were still subs at sea that could stay submerged for months.They could have been been warned or simply have taken the precaution of staying underwater (where a submarine could create it's own breathing
    oxygen from seawater) and never contracted the virus for months until lack of food would force them to seek a friendly port for resupply.
    Even then, they would be able to take precautions such as using the airlocks and protective gear with their own oxygen supply to go ashore looking for supplies.

    • @wickid_raven
      @wickid_raven Před 2 měsíci +12

      Remember in the spin off with the sub people freaking out trying to break rank, panic people die naturally in the sub could bring the whole thing down even from 1 person dying or trying to break the seal keeping the water out

      I concur, navy ships have doors for a reason. Some ships would fall yes, but you could put in place a process where compartments are locked until you either radio that everyone inside is present and accounted for or get no response and can assume someone in that area died.
      So long as you could keep at least an aircraft carrier or even landing ship active and enough marines to periodically raid coastal bases for long term storage food items, ammo and fuel you would be in the best position possible. short of maybe Nuclear shelters but even then ships are each an island at sea.
      WD could have been made more interesting by having them still present in some capacity as like you said, how could they have gone down completly?

    • @dylankennedy6020
      @dylankennedy6020 Před měsícem +1

      How could they get oxygen from seawater? Even if they could extract oxygen from H2O, whatever contraption they use would blow up due to the remaining hydrogen

    • @moteroargentino7944
      @moteroargentino7944 Před 19 dny +2

      @dylankennedy6020 Just electrolysis, it's common practice in all nuclear subs, that's how they can stay submerged for so long. They separate and collect the oxygen from the seawater using electricity, and release the hydrogen back into the sea. Likewise, they have carbon dioxide scrubbers that filter out the CO2 from the air and also pump it out of the sub.
      Plus they also have chemical alternatives just in case the main machines fail, though those have a limited running time.

      *fuel economy*
      its only a matter of time before fuel supplies dwindle. that means returning to land to deal with ports that are overrun, raider traps, and or tapped out/disabled from disrepair.

    There was also mention of a fishing vessel out of Dover that was ready to give Daryl a lift across the channel, and it was mentioned he could get as far as Newfoundland which I think is in Canada so there must be bigger communities running fishing operations and trading all across the coast lines both sides of the Atlantic.

    Yeah there was a plot point in The Ones Who Live that I haven’t seen anyone talk about. Supposedly, Thorne came to the US to gamble in Las Vegas when it started.
    Then she says she was trying to get back to South Africa, Somehow (unexplained) Thorne says she was picked up by Okafor in the Atlantic Ocean.
    This means that she crossed the entire US from Nevada to the east coast and then found a ship and was stranded in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean when Okafor found her...
    Her backstory doesn't add up but it also places Okafor/CRM on the high seas.
    (Why it doesn't add up is because she was crap fighting Walkers! When you have traveled across the US like Rick and Michonne taking out 200 Walkers is nothing, Thorne was out of her league that is why Michonne took over.... there is no way she made it across the US,

    • @keenan646
      @keenan646 Před 2 měsíci +4

      I'm curios why you think she couldn't do it? Thorne served for the South African Navy so she had military training experience.
      Also apparently she tried to escape America multiple times before ending up taking a boat across the Atlantic Ocean before being found by Okafor. We don't know how long she was in America before ending up on the boat but I'd imagine she got experience killing walker during her journey.
      And Thorne was fine at killing walkers in the 3rd episode it was just the RDIM was stuck.
      Michonne didn't have any experience before the outbreak yet when we first see her she's wielding a Katana like a Samurai and journeyed by herself for awhile yet nobody questions that.

    This could have been such an interesting concept to further explore in Fear. It’s interesting because even the sea isn’t safe from walkers or people trying to escape land. With how many resources CRM has, it would be reasonable for them to trade overseas as well. I didn’t mind this Fear arc which in my opinion was rushed but exploring the seas was fun to watch and I like how we got to see that a bit further in Daryl Dixon show.

    the channel gold an gunpowder gives an idea of how pirates worked. TWD would be a golden age because no Navy to put a check on the pirates

    • @hansshekelstein9450
      @hansshekelstein9450 Před 5 dny

      True, though it depends on the level of firepower they have. I imagine it would mostly be limited to civilian boats and small arms. Which, if a civilization has reached the point where they are able to develop sustainable trade routes to plunder (Yarr) they can probably make their own navy along the lines of armed guys to guard their trading vessels.
      Then it becomes a question of its worth it, because pirates don’t want to fight for their living, and if it is still an early post apocalyptic setting then pickings will be slim, and what traders can trade they are likely to fight to the death for because it probably means death if the pirates take it for themselves.
      Which might make the economy of piracy not work out, if it’s more dangerous and has slimmer pickings then just working for the trading communities.

Season 1 has them facing off against the remnants of a rogue Russian fleet and then season 2 follows them dealing with a British Nuclear Submarine that's manned by mercenaries and pirates. I also imagined this plot for a Tales of the walking dead episode.
    Sinopsis: The "HMS Taunton", a former Royal Navy ship its contracted by a small communitie of survivors to defend them from pirates who come each month to treat them and take half his resources.
    The pirate fleet are 3 ex US Navy destroyers, who also are at war with few vessels from Japan and Australian Navy for the conquest of the South pacific island survivors communities and its resources.
    This finally end when the HMS Taunton defeat the American command ship, the USS Gerald Ford, an ex-aircraft carrier, and the captain of the Taunton its called "King of the seas of the south".
    Yeah, could be a very interesting plot, a war for control over islands by ex-navy ships from many countries, specially UK, USA, Japan and Australia.

    I feel like the Atlantic and Pacific are very different in TWD. Lots of piracy off the West coast but the East Coast and Europe seem sort of dead and free. Maybe there were pirates before Carol's time 9n the water? More naval presence, CRM, Commonwealth, and survivors combating pirates in the early days so the Connors of the Atlantic were killed off early and a piracy culture never took root?
    We also know that ships go from NFLD to France in Daryl Dixon, so there's transatlantic trade of some sort. Opening that corridor probably involved killing off pirates. Padre is also on the East Coast too.
    Seems like there's not much going on in the West. Everywhere from Bogota to Anchorage was burned so there was no one to really facilitate trade or to secure shipping routes. Meanwhile Atlanta is the only Eastern city that got napalmed. Even NYC has life. Its a much smaller ocean with thriving communities on both shores. Also due to NATO, America, Canada, France, UK, and others would prioritize the North Atlantic in the early days so there would be more naval presence of multiple nations in the Atlantic over the Pacific.

    Edit: it would be interesting to see a reimagining of TWD if the outbreak happened more recently, with advancements in "green" energy sources and solar being more popularized for homes. Im sure there'd be some clever engineers out there rigging up solar panels on boats to run electirc motors and such to keep boats moving.

      Plus the further proliferation of certain types of firearms in these last few years, plus their accessories (such as switches and suppressors), as well as related tactical equipment such as body armor and chest rigs, which would have been very helpful in the various armed conflicts and prolonged firefights Rick & Friends got in throughout the series. Even night vision and thermal devices, which would be in every military unit's armory and would've been extremely helpful against threats such as the Whisperers, especially the thermals.
      If TWD started tonight, you'd have bands of goons formed by next month acting as mercenaries and scouts. Like that gal Daryl was with who was, apparently, a mercenary in the past, we'd have all sorts of people trying to be roaming mercenaries (except offering to cover guard shifts or join supply scavenging missions and sharing information instead of just raiding settlements and offing everyone before living off their supplies to do it again later (this for sure would still happen, yeah, so there'd be a dynamic of good and bad dudes roaming around it kit)) like "Stakeland" or something, hunting the dead and offering to fight people's wars for them since a group of freelancers raiding Negan's satellite outpost wouldn't have gotten Hilltop into trouble, especially if they left the area right after because things were gonna get too heated.

    • @GadzooksEugene

      Of course, I think of more things after I hit post and move on. The new Daryl show is a good example of this, too, with the group of armed slavs that were hunting him before he reached Mont Saint Michel (The Nest). There would've been as many groups like that in America and Canada as there are hills in Appalachia. Even Mexico would have bands like that moving south from the US encountering the cartels, and offering protection to settlements against them and other such opportunities for men of talent.

      There's this anime called "Highschool of the Dead", which was released the same year as the S1 of The Walking Dead and sadly, it only has 12 episodes with no signs of being continued and this anime gives a "Walking Dead" vibe, plus, it has a very good plot. If you haven't heard of it yet, you can just search it online and watch it

    When society collapses, we just don't see this kind of lawlessness and violence. People are naturally inclined to band together and cooperate.
    That's one thing I just despise about TWD. It just makes no sense the way groups interact with each other. Raiding and killing everyone gets you supplies one time and turns everyone else against you. Establishing trade gets you supplies forever and begins to help build trust and form communities which benefits everyone.
    I just can't see humans NOT banding together, especially with walkers being a constant threat.
    The whole humans are the real monsters thing is so overplayed and 2000s and it's stupid.
