- In this video we remove the intake manifold so we can clean the build up from the intake valves in our 2008 VW GTI. The intake valves in these direct fuel injected engines get gummed up with oil etc. and need to be manually cleaned. This is a BPY code engine and this is the second time I have done this with around 165k miles on the car.

For the clips that break on electrical connectors, push the entire connector in first, then apply pressure to the button, then pull the connector off. Just have to disengage it first by pushing the whole connector "on" more. They get brittle and sometimes its just going to happen.
I liked the older style clips a lot better.
Good tip, I see everyone struggling with these clips, just push them in first, makes it so easy. In fact I have the proper tool to remove VAG clips, you can get them from Amazon
It would have been e nice to actually see how you cleaned the valves.
Rumor has it the car is still in pieces

Is it possible to remove the spline bolt on the block without taking of the throttle body? I'm sure its possible by removing the dipstick tube entirely and putting an extension through that gap?
It may be. I have never tried it.
was the not starting issue just the battery?
Yes. Once we charged the battery it started right up.
How did you actually clean them though
I used a small plastic scraper, a small bottle type brush and a metal pick tool. I sprayed with brake cleaner, scraped and then mopped out with paper towels and then repeated several times. You need to make sure that the valves are closed on each cylinder so you don't end up with debris in the cylinders.
My throttle body just started acting up, watching how of a pain in the ass this is going to be already has me stressed out
That is the worst part of this job. There might be a better way somewhere on the internet but I have not found it.
no logic from vw to make this job so hard
