    Hi, Joshua. Really helpful videos. You are definitely going to grow in CZcams. I have a quick question: what hub do you use when need to charge and have and external SSD connected at the same time? I mean a hub that allows editing directly on the SSD. Thanks and keep making videos!

    • @JoshuaTimothy
      @JoshuaTimothy  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Ricardo. There are a couple ways, the simplest, but most expensive is with the Apple Magic Keyboard. You can charge your iPad through the keyboard and still use the usb c port on the iPad for accessories. I use the Hyper Drive 6 in 1 USB-C Hub. It supports USB-C Power delivery as well as data through the USB-C port (a lot of hubs don’t support data through the USB-C). This hub also has a USB-A port, so you can plug in your charger into the usb-c and your SSD into the USB-A. The Samsung T7 SSD comes with a USB-C and USB-A cable.

    • @ricmrll
      @ricmrll Před 3 lety +1

      @@JoshuaTimothy that’s a great option. But doesn’t the USB-A port limit the transfer speed of the SSD? I understand USB-A connections aren’t as fast as the USB-C and/or Thunderbolt ones, but please correct me if I’m wrong. That’s why I’m having a hard time choosing the right hub, because almost all of them only have the USB-C port for power transfer. Thank you again, Joshua.

    • @JoshuaTimothy
      @JoshuaTimothy  Před 3 lety +1

      @@ricmrll it’s complicated, USB-C is just a plug end. It can be USB 2.0, USB 3.0, or USB 3.1 and more, each with different speeds. Both the USB-C and USB-A ports on the HyperDrive hub are USB 3.1 Gen 1 which both support 5Gb/s transfer. Thunderbolt is even faster than USB but only supported on the new iPad Pro 2021, you’ll need a thunderbolt hub for that, if you want to access that speed.

      The pencil works the same as touch for editing videos, but for me it’s often more comfortable to edit and reach the screen with the pencil. Color grading isn’t the best in LumaFusion, but they have a color grading update coming out later this year. My favorite color grading app is “Grain” by Moment. You can create a LUT, and then load that LUT in LumaFusion. I hope to make a video on that in the near future.

    This is a helpful video. I have one question though. Pardon my ignorance. I notice that many CZcamsrs are excited about editing off external drives in the latest Lumafusion update. How do you get footage onto your external drive? I have to put footage onto my ssd from Lumafusion. That much I get. Are you hooking up your drives directly to your cameras? I don’t understand how to get footage onto my ssd unless I transfer it over from Lumafusion. Do you do this then remove it all from Lumafusion to save space? Then I can see why but it seems to be an extra step. Care to comment?

    • @babycharliebrown
      @babycharliebrown Před 3 lety

      I think you can connect a dongle with multiple inputs to your iPad which lets you connect a card reader and your external drive at the same time. I believe you can then transfer files from the sd card to the external drive.

    • @JoshuaTimothy
      @JoshuaTimothy  Před 3 lety +1

      It’s probably easier to use the Files app to transfer files than LumaFusion. But to answer your question, a lot of people have a USB C dock which allows you to connect multiple devices like a ssd, sd card, or camera at the same time. Then you can drag the files over from your camera’s sd card to the ssd. Or you can use another computer to transfer all your files to the ssd before your start editing on the iPad.

      I’m not sure editing off the ssd will work on a phone. I’m pretty sure LumaFusion requires that the device has a USB C port. The Lightning port is not fast enough for editing. You can however, connect your ssd to your phone using the lightning to USB adapter and then temporarily transfer the footage over to your phone until you are finished with your edit.

      The file management process on iOS and iPad OS needs a lot of improvement. I have transferred files from iPhone to my SSD with the Apple lightning to USB adapter, but air drop is faster than lightning. For SD cards you can use a hub like the Hyper Drive 6 in 1. You can plug in the SSD and the SD card at the same time. For those that have an iPad with limited storage an SSD would allow them to work on multiple projects at the same time without running out of storage.
