This is the one thing I’ve waited for, this is a huge game changer for any product running lumafusion!
How much do the new LumaFusion in app purchases cost?
@@XtremeGamingYT1 I don’t believe they stated a price yet but I would assume $20 like the cost was for the final cut exporting feature
I’ve been wanting this since the first week I started using LumaFusion 2 years ago. Thanks Rob!
How much do the new LumaFusion in app purchases cost?
Well done Rob! Your explanation of how to edit with an external drive was clear and easy to follow and understand. I’m looking forward to using this feature once the new Lumafusion update is available. Thanks for explaining how it all works.
How much do the new LumaFusion in app purchases cost?
Thanks for the very useful information.
I have an iPad Pro 2017 64Gb with lightning and I've been basically emptying the storage to be able to edit videos because you need to copy them to files or gallery, import to Luma Fusion and so create a new copy and then create a new rendered file, so it's basically 3x files space for each project. I was importing to Luma Fusion and immediately deleting them from gallery to save some space.
Now considering buying a newer iPad for Photo/Video editing I thought about buying a much bigger storage, but now I can go to a 128/256Gb version with no problems.
Excellent content as usual! I’m a subscriber and customer. Keep the content coming.
Happy Easter Sir Rob, I enjoy Watching this Video😊
Always enjoy your vids. How is external drive editing with LumaFusion and an older iPad Pro before the thunderbolt port? Does one really need an M1 iPad?
Saw your content and subscribed. Thanks for giving me what I wanted when I wanted it.
Appreciate that Paul. Thanks for the support!
thanks for the walkthrough!!!!
Thanks for the video!
Can you straight use ntfs external drive for luma fusion? Or do I have to copy my file first on my iPad?
Great video. How does one move all original footage for a project from internal storage to external while keeping the project intact… so project remains the same but footage is now coming from external drive?
Will this work with the usb C to sd card adapter?
Awesome! Do you know how this would work with exporting a project? From what I see, the .lfpackage file includes all media files plus project information, but what if I just wanted to have project information (like timeline cuts and color edits) alongside the raw files on the drive?
Can you import A7siii video files directly to an SSD using an iPad? The memory card uses a Type-C reader.
Can we edit directly from SD card instead of SSD? How slow it will be.. or what type SD card minimum?
Very helpful, but here is a question. My iPad is older, but I got the Mac Mini M1 earlier this year. I have since learned I can use Luma Fusion with a Mac Mini (yeah). Editing works as does using the external drive. Here is my problem. When I go to export, back to the external drive (File), it seems to all work. However, when I go to open the file from the external drive, I get the warning that “this cannot be opened”. Also, when I look at the file size on the external drive, it is ZERO.
Any thoughts?
Excellent thanks.
hi.. can you suggest the true speed cable for my samsung t5 ssd.. my cable lost already and finding a new one to replace.. thank
I am so looking forward to this on my March 2020 iPad Pro. I bought the T5 long ago when you talked about it for the first time. Keep up the great videos! Can't wait until we get proper speed ramping one day .
Ye. T5 is my champ! Looking forward to speed ramping too, even tho i have my own ways😝🤪
Do you connect the camera (load pics and vids) to the SSD by USB?
Hello, how much do the new packs cost?
Great video! Excited for 3.0 release, my iPad is filling up fast with 4K video, much needed feature. Would love to see a video of how you backup your SSDs with an iPad. Do you duplicate everything to another SSD? Can it even be done on an iPad or do you us a Mac?
Using a USB-C hub you should be able to connect more than one external drive to the iPad at the same time. Then use the Files app to transfer from one to the other, bypassing the internal storage all together.
I know this for sure works with the M1 iPad and a Thunderbolt dock. I assume it would as well with USB-C on an older iPad, just slower speeds?
@@jaynumber4444 thanks for the help and great point! Yeah my concern was the slower speeds, especially when you’re working with up to 1TB of data.
@@jaynumber4444 I have been wondering about this as well. I have the new M1 and was wondering if powering two SSDs through a hub would be a problem and whether the files system would allow transfers between two external drives.
I tried so T5 ssd and 2 more DIY in my ipad pro 2022 is always disconnecting, which setting did u use to formar your ipad? I'm using APSF. Probably i need to format
Excellent 👌
Don't you need to simultaneously connect to a power source using an adapter, since ipad is powering external SSD as well?
Rob, what hub dongle are you using?
I'm using an iPad Air 4 and editing a video on Luma Fusion, however sometimes my files get corrupted. Has anyone experienced something like a that? have you found any solution? thanks
Only in SSD is possible? How about an external hard disk magnetic type
Hi Rob, Is it possible to export an unfinished edit to the external SSD in order to continue it in a later stage. Till now it is exported as a movie and when I reopen it I lost all my timelines...
What’s the most effective way to get media from a sd card to the ssd storage device without a pc?
Nice info
Is this setting only on the iPad? I have purchased the Samsung external drive and the setting under preferences is not there. I am using an iPhone.
Watched most of this to find it wont work with the iPad i bought a year ago. I can probably get away with fully editing on my iPad for a while, but after each project is done I’m going to need to move it over to an external drive. Is there an easy way to do this without losing the project in LumaFusion? Like, i presume it will be easy to move the individual clips and then then completed project, but then i wont be able to revisit the edit, correct? Or is there a way to preserve this?
Hi....I using ipad pro 2020 and Samsung t7..but there is no option when I export video to ssd card, can anyone tell me how to solve this problem. Thanks
Thanks for great video! Do you know if Luma Fusion 3.0 now can use more than 5GB of RAM? I would expect to see that happen soon since it appears Luma Fusion is one of Ipad Pro’s flagship apps now.
When Apple opens for it, im sure it will be utilized
Thanks for the video looking forward to editing with my iPad Air fourth edition with a USB-C on it and my Samsung T7 cheers mate
Did it work with the new iPad Air? Was wondering if this most cheap solution to edit with luma fusion could be something for me too.
I should not available to me yet
I just got the M1 iPad Pro and I’m looking forward to editing videos with LumaFusion using an external drive. So thanks for showing us these exciting features coming in next version of LumaFusion. You did a great job with this video.
Thanks Ron!
I have a Samsung T7 and start now to transfer most of my material to the SSD I also use a uni USB C Hub. I wasn't very happy with it so far but now I also struggle w speed. If I connect SSD to uni adapter replay in LFusion has major delays. Connect directly obviously works great but leaves u without power supply.
What is the best one you are using? I have tried a few but always found fault. Seems like a major problem to get a real functioning one. Thanks for u videos always greatly appreciated.
All gear is in the description:)
Hi Rob. Great info as always. Thanks. Can you save a half finished project ? With all the cuts, transitions, etc from one I pad pro to the other? In the past I’ve been able to export to my Samsung T5 but when I try to re load to my other iPad Pro it’s converted it to one continuous video( in other words all cuts , transitions, effect are gone ). From what I saw from your videos the new software fixes this. So I’m hoping all the transitions and edits are still going to be there. Have I understood correctly ? Sorry I find it hard to keep up. Your videos are not exactly put in dumb dumb language. I think I understood. Just need you to confirm. Thanks again for making these videos. Your are a champion.
Hi, you need to export as a LumaFusion project pack, not as a movie. Hope it helps
The best video on external export yet. Just a quick question. So I'm saving to external hard drive and it says the operation can't be completed. Couldn't communicate with a helper application. How do I fix this?
I restarted the IPad and not it says not enough space so now it doesn't want to save to the external hard drive even though it's selected
My project files from external drive is not showing up when refreshed. I see the linked folder with the files, but I'm still seeing the yellow missing media icon and the yellow colored clips as opposed to red colored as when media is missing. Any idea as to what I may be doing wrong?
Thanks Rob, I keep checking the app store to see if the update has dropped d:D
Hehe☺️ ill let you all know when you can expect it, so don’t waste your time
@@RobHK awesome! So excited for it
What SSD drive and cable you using?
It just dropped today!
editing on external drive really drain your battery right ??
Can i use usb c flash drive or only ssd works ?
After exporting your movie to the external drive, how do you upload to youtube? From iPad the youtube app seems to only allow upload from the photo/video library and does not allow you to choose from the external drive, thx.
Ye. I dont use the app
I can’t make the YT upload work...any clues? I get an upload error.
Did you transcode your sony videos before you used it in your ipad?
No
With iPad 2021 will the new connection work faster? Or doesn’t matter? Great video. Very helpful. Need 3.0.
What kind of iPad? IPad Pro?
Thanks so much for this !!! (I’m Mascon Leather here on YT). Can you give a link or direct to the cable needed to go from external drive to the iPad usb-c ? Thanks again!
Rob, what is your workflow for moving your clips from the SD card to the SSD drive? I had my 7 in 1 hub connected with the SD card from my camera inserted and a,so had the T7 SSD drive connected and was moving clips over to the drive but mid way through the transfer, I got an error message saying it could not complete the task because of an Invalid Argument. I’m clueless as to what that means or how to resolve the issue. How are you getting your files onto the SSD drive? In this video you already had the files on your drive when the video started. Thanks!
I move them from sd card or directly from camera to my T5/T7 or Asus m.2 via the multiport hub linked in the description. I have never ever experienced an issue with transfers. Even 10 bit 300mbit files works fine. Raw photos too.
Moving the files from one ssd to another, no issues either.
But it could be your ipad which is broken. My 2018 model worked fine, then transfers stopped working and motherboard got fried. Now im waiting for apple to send me a new one for the 4th time (they keep sending the old one back saying its new…🤦🤯)
@@RobHK oh wow that’s crazy! I’ll look into what you said and see if I can resolve the issue. I guess I can always connect my T7 to my iMac and transfer the files that way but was trying to find a way of doing it when I’m away from my home/iMac. Thanks for the response though.
on my external drive it doesn't export just says import complete and thats all?
Is there a possibility that scopes, histograms and other tools would be available?
In a seperate in-app purchase in Lumafusion which comes later this year you will be able to get scopes with waveform, histogram, vector etc
Can you review and edit video clips from an external drive in the LumaFusion preview window?
You can -preview- and trim the clips before adding them to your timeline yes.
@@RobHK Thanks
What SSD format do you use for editing footage on your iPad?
Exfat
Thanks, Rob! Love the vids! Watch them all and recommend them to others.
👍👍!
What about those NAS users? How sick would it be to edit off a multi TB drive? If it’s RAD0 you might even have fast enough speeds to not have much trouble on read write.
you can, but speedwise it wont be much faster than a T5
Hey Rob I had a question! How do I import Sony AVCHD footage into my iPad to edit on lumafusion? iPad doesn’t seem to recognize the file type.
Hmm that’s strange. Which camera and settings you use?
@@RobHK I’m using a Sony a7ii shooitning in manual mode, shooting in AVCHD so I can get 60fps.
What ipad you use and how do you connect the camera to the ipad?
@@RobHK I connect my sd card with the card card reader into the files app on the iPad newest generation not the iPad pro
If you can connect it via cable from the camera directly, do so. It could also be the sd card which is the problem. I.eg the sd card is to slow. Ive used the same method as you with my sony a6400 and had no issues. Also did the same now with the Sony A7iii’s SD card. No issues 🤔
Can i make good ex effect in lumafusion or no way to do that?
There is many ways, just search up some yt tutorials
Is it worth getting the T7 with double the read/write speeds? 💨
🤷 i will be getting one soon. As everything is now going to be on my SSD. Im thinking about getting a T7 and test. But at this time T5 is and has been my go to. Fast enough and no issues using the same drive for many years.
@@RobHK would love to see that test comparison 🧐
Will this also work for in-place editing of files on iCloud Drive? This way the files also would not get copied to local storage and since my file is basically on my iPad already this way it would not get doubled.
Im not sure if editing from icloud will work at this point. I think Chris mentioned that this would be something that we will see in the future. But will be testing different things (:
@@RobHK Ok, thanks. I’ll just watch out for this. To me this would make sense and should even be faster than from external SSD but with a lot of the same benefits.
True. I will look up the answer from Chris to confirm whether or not this is coming in the near future or if we have to wait for apple to enable something like this.
Have you already try it?
Hi, my lumafusion doesn’t have external editing option. I using ipad 2018 gen 3. Its not working for my ipad? My ssd already reading to ipad, but it say still need copy files from ssd to internal ipad memory. What should i do? Thanks in advance
Did you get solution if yes then please tell me I am also facing this issue but on iPhone x
@@atlasabdullah hi, external ssd need ipad with usb type-c only, ipad with cable lightning is not working,,, so we just need upgrade my ipad into usb type-c . So sad , but hope can answer your question thanks,,,,
@@dedotlyric firstly thanks for replying secondly I have an iPhone X with lighting adapter that connect with Power supply and iPhone and i am not seeing external drive edit option on lumafusion I don’t know why and it is updated what else I should I want to edit and facing these issues 😢
You guys just hold on with the upgrades. 3.1 update is coming in a few days. Check ny video on release. Think this will help you out 😌😀
@@RobHK thanks rob
hope so because i don’t know about anyone but I am really really getting frustrated when I did everything but the issue is not solving and can you tell me how many days are few days 🌝 because I can’t wait for it
what an useful content. 👍 i have Macbook M1 so can you please try on that? i think it will work as it’s the same application.
Someone has to buy me an M1 Macbook first 😀
@@RobHK i have it let me try check 🤘🏻
No, Beta version i won’t install 🤣 actually i am using lumafusion on M1 it’s amazing
I have iPad mini 5 can use this feature on this ?
Nope. Only iPad with USB C port can do this. The mini 5 has lighting port.
Does it Work with the IPad Pro 2018?
Yep. Any iPads with usbc ports
Do I need adapter for lighting port type?
I don’t think this is compatible with the lighting port. Not because of the shape, but because lighting port is not fast 💨 enough.
is it possible to work on HD wifi too?
Like the gnarbox? Yes i would assume so. I cannot confirm this myself as I don’t have one tho.
Can we use this with iPad 6?
Nope. The iPad 6 has a lighting port, you need a USB C port to use this feature.
In the current version there is now an ”update external drive”-button! Down to the right there is a forth icon. Yay!!! 🥳
hi, guys, does anybody else have the same problem that the settings don't have an option of using the hard drive in the preferences
Yes did you find the solution please let me know
Another nice video. Thanks Rob.
I have a iPad Air 4, what ssd portable drive do you recommend to external editing in LumaFusion 3.0? I noticed that you use a T5.
Thanks man🙌🔥🔥 i use the T5 and have been for years. Exact same drive many years and no issues whatsoever!💪 i would recommend the T5 and 1TB but if you have a few ka-tchings extra, go for the T7 non-touch. The touch might be an issue if you get scars or scratches on your fingers. Just like the older ipads and iphones. T5 and T7(none-touch) is just plug’n play.
@@RobHK Thanks a lot! I thinking about T7 and you help me to choose!!! Great !!!
It doesn't work with lightning port 😅
Still not possible on Android
That’s a bummer that you can not use the older IPad’s without the usb-c.
I’m glad they put usbc on the new iPad Air that I have
You can, you just can’t edit right on the drive. Media has to be downloaded to the device.
Yeah I was excited for this but now I'm not. Desktop editing for me!
@@jimkyle571 yes, but I think people wanted this feature because they did not want their footage to take up space on their iPads, so they wanted to edit from external drives.
Does it Work with the IPad Pro 2020? or only with the new one?
2020 iPad pro has USB C so you are good to go.
@@andregrizzle2287 Thank you 👍🏽
I think it works with iPad which has USB -C connection! Right ?!
I tried to make this connection with my iPhone but I haven’t settings which allows two turn on editing with external ssd
Please ADOBE!
