How to Program Lexus Toyota Replacement Smart Key with Techstream

- We go thru using Techstream to program a Lexus HYQ14FBA "G-chip" Smart Key onto a Toyota Avalon which uses same board inside the key. This was a cheaper and more robust key option by sourcing a used OEM "virgin" key. We also go over how to locate your key number to get a spare shank/lockout key cut for cheap from an eBay seller.

Thanks for doing this! I got the cable and it worked like a charm. I had to watch another video in order to understand how to get to the smart key programming by going to utilities. But now I just need to get my blank cut and I'll be good to go! Saved me hundreds of dollars from doing it at the dealership.

Thanks for the video. Took me a bit to get the software working since CZcams doesn’t like people showing how to do that but once I had that figured out was pretty straightforward to get the key registered.
How did you download the software?
Worked perfectly for our newly used 2017 Toyota Sienna that only came with 1 fob. Used the links in your info too, and purchased from those sellers, thank you for those.

My original key 2020 nx300h is 281451-2110 AG, with 3 button my new virgin key is 281451-2020 AG with 4 button.

@TunerwithKids - Thank you for sharing. When you were going through the Techstream software, it also showed a Remote Engine Starter option. Is that for programming a remote engine starter that's been installed with the existing Smart Key?

My 2015 prius stop working with key fob after I replaced the car battery. I got master locksmith to make a new fob but he was unable to. His instrument kept saying " fail to reset code" what could be wrong? I had only one fob by the way
Thank you for sharing. Great content. I thought I would not have to buy anything else besides the after market FOB, but looks like I will need to buy the Techstream :-). I have 2011 RX 350. It came with 2 key fobs and 1 I never used. 6 years after I bought the car, I found out that second fob which I never used had stopped working already. I am down to one so here comes the spare just in case :-)
Did you change the battery on unused one? I have two original keys non my IS and a third I added. Two I hardly use I need to periodically change the batteries (5 years or so) cause the eventually die.

Any help, my techstream 17.30.011 does not have smart key option under body electrical. I have Entry and Start. All works fine till I have to leave the new key on the passenger seat
Great Video Binh. My 2013 Avalon FOB key appears to be dead. It is beyond battery replacement. Can I use this approach to make a completely new key or does my original key have to be working? Thanks in advance.

I tried this on my 2016 RX350 with an aftermarket key fob. The key registered successfully using Techstream. But the vehicle only starts by depressing brake pedal and touching the "Start" button. I changed the battery with a brand new one, but it still doesn't work. The buttons on the fob open all doors and trunk, but opening doors in proximity doesn't work without pressing the button. Any ideas?

I mate, really your channel. May I ask a quick question? got an OEM used key, watching the video i noted you mentioned key needs to be "Veganized" before reprograming to my Lexus? I recently purchased “launch ODB2 scanner following your video. can it help with "veganizing" the old OEM key?
Can't do that to a used key. You have to hack the key and erase the EEPROM on the key to think it's new.

I just bought a smart key with an AG-Chip, thinking that it would be one with the G-chip. My hope is that I will still be able to program it for a Camry 2014. Would this be possible? Thanks in advance for your reply.
Best bet is to open old and look for number on board like I showed. Match that for new “virgin” key you get online.

You have to get a cable and search Google on how to get and install Techstream. Usually I got to OBD365 blog posts.
I did as described on a Avalon 2013 but the buttons won’t work apparently u need a professional for that.
Key Chip did get programmed though so it starts car if I tap the engine start button

Should be same process but make sure key is new or the eeprom has been wiped to virgin.

I have techstream and an 07 Prius equipped with smart key.
I bought the car with only one fob. The smart function never worked and the lock/unlock function doesn’t work either.
I bought a virgin, non-smart fob on Amazon. I got it programmed to start the car but like my other fob, locks don’t work.
Is programming the locks to the fob a separate process in tech stream?

Non smart key on a push start car? If it key turn ignition, immobilizer programming is separate of the remote programming.

Why did you need the lock cylinder code? Does this help you get the key cut?
Yes, it is cheaper and easier for the key cutter to use the code vs looking at key and decrypting the pattern.
What if there's no available slots to register a key? Can we delete any of the previous ones?
You have to remove some keys especially if you don’t own them anymore.

No. Virginising the key requires accessing the keys eeprom and putting back to stock. When they program, the keys and immobilizer on the car “hand shake” it’s an anti cloning feature to prevent theft and signal stealing.

Yes but those smart keys have very specific model year constraints.

Same number. FCC is doesn’t mean much.
How do you do this for programming a used non-virgin oem Toyota tundra smartkey to a Tacoma smartkey?
Non virgin keys require a decryption token to program. It basically wipes the ECU and allows any new key to work.

Idk what it uses for immobilizer but if it has one then probably same chip.

Hi Binh! I just purchased a replacement for my 2013 Lexus GS350 and I didn’t see your video, of course, until AFTER I had already made my purchase. I heard you mention the virginized key is better than an after-market key & when I looked back at my invoice for my replacement purchase I thought “oh nooo!!” The company I purchased from states that it is an after-market replacement :-\
Will this be an issue or is it mainly bc the aftermarket are kind of like knock-offs as opposed to the “real thing” just refurbished/virginized?

Aftermarket one may not be durable long term. Poor solder joints and weak antenna. I’ve had many remote FOBs with poor battery solder and intermittent not working.

I have one other quick question if you have a minute: how do I get the software you use in this video so that I can program the key myself? It’s just a spare key (to have as a backup to my original one which is in perfect working condition) so, I kept the order I already placed for the aftermarket FOB bc I feel like at the very least I will have a working spare if the need for the spare arises.
So, back to my question - I am now just curious regarding the software and whether this is a free downloadable software or something that is costly to get? Thanks again Sooo much, Binh!
You need the cable. And the software is a search away. OBD365 blog is a good resource. I’m not up to speed on how the newer versions work. I’ve heard some people have trouble with new versions not allowing TPMS or Key programming. I have a 2015 copy so mine has all the features I need.
Okay final question, I hope! Haha what is the exact cable I need? In your video I heard you say plug into the OBD port but I’m seeing lots of different versions on Amazon & don’t want to get the wrong one 😬

Key won’t program to any other car. Needs to be virgin or have security tokens purchased to allow it to program.
The link shows a V16 cable. Do I get latest V17?
I’m not up to date on the versions. I’m still using an older TS from 2015. I know people report that newer versions may not have all capabilities of older copies.

Eeprom erase on key. Done by key hackers and resellers. Dealership won’t do that, they will sell you a new key.

new key worked fine .. but programming the fab has been a struggle .. I follow the video, but when I get to the Smart Key section their IS NO Utility section ? and NO Option to program the key ?
Maybe the version I got does not do the fab programming ? I also have a 2015 Toyota Camry so was expecting this to go smoothly, but my software seems different.
edited .. I have now tried 5 versions of Techstream .. and when I enter the SmartKey section .. I never get a Utility button to program a new fab ?
I'm having the same problem. I tried two different versions of Techstream, no Utilities button.
Some of the newer copies have handicapped that feature. Need to find old copy or try the Launch scan tool. I have video on that tool.

No, 2002 uses different key systems. I have a video on programming a key for a GX which is similar to 2002. There is an eBay seller that I buy my keys from that cuts them using photo or code too. Links in description of that video.

How do you removereplace the door handle , it slides out.
There are 10mm behind the handle so you have to remove door panel and lock and unbolt and slide the front out.
Any ideas if this process will work with an RC-F?

Edit : nvm found out for older Lexus models you click “ Smart Code Registration “ tab on my RC-F I was able to use the “ Smart Code Registration (Classic)”

No idea. They probably have to erase the eeprom on the key. Need specialized equipment.
Hi I have a Toyota Allion 2008. I lost 1 set of smart key ( 3 botton) the PCB 2711451-0500. Where can I buy a new one from Techstream and program myself. Where to download the application software to do the programming.
Not familiar with Allion in US. But look for eBay seller who sell virgin OEM used keys. Techstream is online, just search for it and the cable.

Techstream is a Toyota software so it does all their cars.

@edl8056 you’ll have to research the software online. Obd365 has a blog that may help you. Im not up to date on latest versions or how to unlock it.
I have a Lexus ct200h. Both key fobs were lost. Reputable locksmith was unable to program new key. He says his key was probably the issue and reccomended taking to dealer. I take to the dealer. They were unable to program their keys. They say the ECU is locked and needs replacing. Can the ECU be unlocked? Would this be similar to re-flashing? Lexus wants an arm & leg to replace the ECU & immobilizer which is located in the dash.

The dealer can reseed the ECU to assert new keys if lost. No need to replace ECU.

That’s a deal. Most dealers want $55 claims the cutting bits are expensive and wear fast.
I do have dead key to manually start car.
Dead key needs to be placed onto start button to read. That’s the failsafe.

I bought a used Lexus RX 350 that only come with after market key. I bought another one from eBay which said to be support board for this specific Vehicle. However, the working after market fob that came with the card have a different board ID. I tried to program the fob key bought off eBay but can't keep failing. I so tempted to reset the immobilizer or erase code, but don't want to end up have both fob not working. Do you have any experience or suggestion you think it might work? erase all keys and add the one I bought from ebay since that seem to be a correct board ID then the one that came with the car. Thanks
Is the eBay one unlocked or virgin key? If it’s aftermarket it won’t have same markings or numbers as OEM.

You need to buy security tokens and have techstream to reset the immobilizer and wipe all keys. After that, you can program new keys. I’ve heard people say that even used locked keys will program after a token security reset.

My videos are shot in 4K iPhone or Fuji XT200. It’s all processed in 4K and uploaded via PC. I have external and wireless lav mics.

I’m not sure on eraser. I think you have to erase and add new but usually there’s only two keys, so it won’t erase the current key used to access (I think).

What if you do not have a key fob, it is a push button
You’re screwed and need it towed to dealership. They will probably try to replace the entire immobilizer system vs trying to reseed the ECU.

No unless it’s been erased or “virginized”. The eeprom handshakes with ECU.

I can’t run techstream after downloading it.
Newer versions require activation. There’s a guy on a forum that does it as a courtesy. I have a old 2015 version that didn’t require all the activation stuff. I can’t seem to locate my EXE files anymore though because I want to use on my newer PCs due to the ease.

Anybody erased a key fob using Techstream? I don't have a spare so I got a Lexus fob from someone but I believe it is still paired to his car and wont let me program it to my car. It would suck to erase my only key to my car in the process.
Not possible. They weren’t supposed to be erasable but people make their own devices to do it.

Last time, the $15 guy botched both of the keys I ordered from him, for a loss of $30.
If it’s 1010keys, they are pretty good about customer service. They might be assholes in email but will eventually take care of it especially if eBay is involved.
@@TunerwithKids yeah, after a few stupid email exchanges I got on with other things. They really botched the cuts this time though. The local Ace cut was almost perfect, however!
Horrible software tbh. This is impossible to do without a key that’s already programmed. I’ve lost my key so how am I supposed to program a new one if I lost the old one? 😂
Dealer has to reseed the ECU (labor/diagnostics time) with security codes directly from manufacturer and sell you a new $300 key.
Windows? Not really gonna happen...
