Toyota Techstream Software Demonstration

  • Toyota Techstream is the software used by dealerships for vehicle diagnostics and to personalize settings on your Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicle.
    The software connects to a car via a Mini VCI cable through the OBDII port. Cheap cables, available on eBay, emulate a serial port to which Techstream software communicates to your car's CAN bus.
    The software allows you to access vehicle settings, such as door locks, transmitter, engine immobilizer programming, power window, interior illumination as well as security and headlights. It is also used to read specific ECU codes from the engine computer, ABS/TRAC/VSC, SRS Airbag and occupant detection systems.
    Built in diagnostic tools allow you to perform tests on failing parts to determine what is at fault.
    Additionally, having access to techstream allows you to program your own chipped keys and wireless remotes.
    This tutorial quickly goes through the settings and monitors available in Techstream for a Lexus ES330. It will be similar for many other Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles that use the CAN bus made after ~ 2002.
    Here are the installation instructions:
    The cable was purchased from eBay.

    Here's a question for us "high performance" guys. My 2008 Toyota Tundra equipped with a TRD Supercharger and custom tuned. I'm currently adding Longtube headers and my tune had my air/fuel set to 11.5 to 1 under wide open throttle at max RPMs, with new headers my truck "should" run lean, maybe 13-14 to 1 which is a problem that may cause catastrophic engine failure. I only want an accurate reading of my air/fuel ratio on both bank 1 and 2, I seriously doubt this system will allow me to adjust my air/fuel ratio but if it will read it, I'll know if it is lean and needing a fresh tune. Does this have that ability, to read in real time the air/fuel ratio AND does it also allow data logging, basically keeping it all plugged up and driving while it's saving vital data to show what the engine is doing? If so it's a godsend! I ordered it already and have not yet tried it, it came with the cable and a disc/CD "hopefully to download the program/software to my laptop" and I'm also told this will work on Toyota/Lexus/Scion vehicles and is almost identical to what the dealerships use? My main concern is getting an accurate air/fuel ratio once my headers are finished. Do you have any insight into this and if it will work to perform that function?? Thanks! Great vid!

      To get the buttons one the key fob to work they need to be programmed with Techstream.
      1 programming the remote keyless door lock functions so from the "System Selection Menu" choose "Main Body"
      2 then "Utility" and "Wireless Code Registration."
      3 At this point the "Wireless Code Registration Wizard" popped up:
      4 follow the prompts, and the programming was complete. At this point you could click "Next" for another key or "Exit" if finished. Takes all of 2 minutes.
      5 You can then prigram the immobiliser chip so the key would actually start the engine. From the "System Selection Menu" I chose "Immobiliser" if you haven't already.

    I have a Prius 2007 EU. I brought this cable cause some people said that the alarm was disabled and i could enable it. When i choose security there are no options showed... same as windows,lights etc.. only AC and interior lights have a few options..... that means that my car has not an alarm installed or am I missing some settings configurations in order to enable/see those options?

      @speedkar99  Před 5 lety

      If it doesn't show up then you don't have that option.
      I have a video of me enabling the alarm on an 06 Sienna
      I've also successfully done it on an 09 sienna
      But the security menu doesn't show up on my 04 Camry 😔

  • @lexusfan100
    @lexusfan100 Před 9 lety

    That's pretty cool. Do it's just the wire you purchased ? No cd or anything? Also could you check for anything customizable for 2000 lexus es300. Or is it just for car you put the obd2 into.

    • @speedkar99
      @speedkar99  Před 9 lety

      lexusfan100 I purchased the wire. It comes with a CD, but the software is available for download in the links in the description. I tried it on a 1999 Lexus ES300 yesterday, and there were no customizable options, but you can still monitor readouts and read DTC's.
      The customization of locks, windows and security works with newer model Toyotas that have the CAN bus, after 2002-03 model year.

    Man as usual, big fan here. Love ur vids and I'm always following up on ur posts since there is so much that u do to UR cars. Now it just so happens I got the engine light come on last week n im sure it might be a sensor since is not the gas cap like most ppl say. U think this could help determine what might be at fault? The car is a 2001 Camry Xle V6. Not going for customization much but for pin pointing what is at fault to replace if possible. Thank u so much for the vid btw

    • @speedkar99
      @speedkar99  Před 9 lety

      I'm glad you found this video useful! A techstream cable would be a good tool to diagnose your check engine light especially if it's emissions or fuel related, as you can monitor various voltages and sensors live to pin point the issue. Its cheaper than an obd2 reader and gives you so much more information.

    Hi...this the best 'tutorial' on Techstream that I've seen (and I've seen a bunch). I am hoping that this gets to you even though I know this video is a few years old. I've recently purchased the cable and software and begun using it. However, it seems the functionality is limited. I can 'see' all the ECU's in the list, but many of the ones I want to interact with have the * stating that "ECU not supported or not responding"...but its doing it for the TPMS, immobilizer, SRS, which I know the truck is equipped with. Any idea WHY???? or how to get around this? I really want to program a key using the software (I was able to program a remote), but the key is under immobilizer and that is one of the ECU's that has the *. your help is really appreciated! thanks!!

    • @speedkar99
      @speedkar99  Před rokem

      I never got that. But it seems with any vehicle newer than the software I don't have full access to. For example I can't program tpms on my 2011 Sienna. Or access certain ECU on my brother's 2012 IS350

      Open with a sea clamp.
      Close when new brakes (pads/rotar) by starting engine and pumping brake pedal slowly until it gets hard *(also check fluid, if it's low and brakes need changing DON'T add brake fluid, once old pads are out, sea clamp with flat metal to cover both pistons evenly and as you close clamps to open caliper to fit new pads it pushes fluid back into reservoir. If finished brake job completely and still low, add as needed but shouldn't need to add much.) As brakes wear the fluid level drops, once pistons compressed closed it send it back into reservoir.
      Techstream won't fix brakes!
