I give you A+ for persistence as you continue to review Gerber products!! I just wouldn't bother. As for this particular tool - your father's response is the same as mine. I always recommend Victorinox for non-plier multi-tools and Leatherman for plier multi-tools. Find the version that meets your needs and go. I've used both for 25+ years and never let me down. Cost a bit more but 1) work & 2) keep working. Shape blades all.

That would be such a great tool set!" " Oh, guys, you know what we gotta ad? That hook on the back of alot of swiss army knives that everyone hates!" "Yes! Ok, all that is great, we just need to completely botch the execution!"

As funny as the stake puller seems, I gotta say I get some good use out of the parcel hook on my SAK. Tie a rope around some wood and you've got a way to haul firewood, use it to pull knots in small cordage super tight, and pull out tent stakes. Heck I use it to carry grocery bags from time to time

    • @420haxx
      @420haxx Před rokem +1

I've definitely ran into some situations where a hook was nice to have. Mostly after stomping pegs into some rather tough soil. Yeah they all had cords on em, but it really hurt to pull on these. So I used the hook on my Victorinox to effortlessly pull these out. Of course this is very unusual, but a hook is good for many things. I also use it to pick up hot lids on my stoves and such. This tool has the right idea, just not the right execution.

I have this and it's good. I'm a lightweight packer, I don't need to carve out a spoon or need to build a shelter. It's doesn't take up room or weigh much. I don't use this all the time but useful when I do need it. It's good for its price. obviously if I found myself needing a specific tool more often, then i would get something else.
In regards to that hook. Yes it's also useful. Not all tent pegs have pull cords. Hook is useful if your hands are brittle cold and the ground is damp and compact. Using the carabiner is not the same is the hook. With the hook the whole tool acts as a handle.
Also China makes everything. From cheap and nasty to Luxury items like that fancy phone you are watching this video on or the camera this video was filmed. If quality isn't good, blame yourself or that brand you bought from. Cheap items exist because there is a market for it. Usually you get what you pay for.

Few, if any scissors on multitools even come close to the Victorinox. The Fieldmaster, along with other Vic models come with what they call a package hook. This hook is decidedly smaller but will readily pull tent stakes if need be.

I'll play devil's advocate here with the J hook... I think it's designed for people who use classic steel/aluminiun wire tent pegs. Not people who use pegs with the string loop like MSR pegs etc...
With wire pegs, when they are buried in the ground sometimes it's tricky to get them out as the hooky part is flush on the ground or even in the ground sometimes .
I carry a rubber mallet that has a hook at the bottom of the handle specifically for that purpose. I know there are a few brands which make aluminium hammers/mallets for tent with a hammer end and a hook as well. Personally I prefer the rubber one as - in addition of putting tent pegs of course - I can also baton on my knife with it, without damaging the spine of the blade and without making too much noise.
That being said arguably when using wire pegs, you could use a spare peg to take out the ones you've buried if you had no need of a hammer to put your pegs on. Or you could just use regular pliers to take the pegs out, like a Leatherman for example.
Anyway... I think that's what the J hook on the Gerber was designed for. It's a gimmick to me. I would not buy a tool just for that.
Based on that review (and a few others I've seen on YT) that Gerber multitool has good blade geometry but poor steel. It doesn't have any feature I'd actually need that I would not have on my other multitools (Leatherman etc...) and hence I have no interest in it. That's a useless gadget !

Well, the best part of the video was for sure the Dad !!! Best wishes. Now let's get back on the tool. Oh yeah!!! Gerber doesn't disappoint us for one more time!!!! Delivering once again an absolute joke. But is amazing also to help scratching some spots of the body that are itchy

This Gerber piece just feels like it failed. Your review was the least harsh I've seen.

They might sell this if they list it in a sharper image magazine on an airplane?

I wouldn’t need the hook feature and wouldn’t buy it at the price point and said materials of the blade. I have to many other tools for my needs.
That being said, maybe if someone is disabled in the hands or arm or for a child who doesn’t have the hand strength, the tool may have a place/use.

    nevev needed a stake puller
sad that the steel is not good
    think I'll pass...

    2:06 welp.. that sux
I think the industry is overdue for a truly high quality outdoor-specific multitool.. think Leatherman Signal but with a thick(er) scandi blade in elmax/3v/35vn, more emphasis on blade and lock, less on pliers and gimmicks.
A Rangergrip 78 with better blade steel and small pliers for hot stuff would be awesome.

Honestly, save the money and if absolutely needing it just 3D print the J-hook.
